Quick Noob Question: Add-ons.

EternalYouth, if you decide to try an Illusion/Radiation Controller, take a look at my Illusion/Radiation Guide, linked to my sig. It has a lot of information on how things work for controllers in general and Illusion/Radiation controllers in particular.
A good choice. Dark/Dark is quite good, both as a corruptor and as a defender. If you decide to head over to the hero side, I'd recommend trying an Illusion/Radiation controller. Good damage and utility powers, a heal, a great team buff, and some of the best debuffs in the game make this set shine just off common enhancements. With sets added, I've seen some become godly, doing crazy things like soloing Giant Monsters.

I find the Illusion/Radiaiton Controller to be one of the most flexible and powerful builds in the game . . . but not a "blaster-mage" by any stretch of the imagination.
LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

You really shouldn't use it less - That power is really a good debuff that just happens to have a decent PBAoE Heal as a side effect.
There is a heal as the first power in Dark Miasma, but it's kinda "meh" for a heal in that it needs a target (yes, it can miss) and the animation is on the long side. But, once you get to the higher levels you'll probably find that you're using the heal less and less anyway.

Vidiotmaps and similar are on a hazy line when it comes to the TOS. Technically, they're not modifying the game client (which is against the TOS), rather they're utilizing an undocumented feature of the client (the client will read files from data/ in preference to the files in piggs/). On the other hand, the only way to know exactly how to use that undocumented feature requires piggdiving, which is against the rules.
Yep, anything dealing with the game controls is against the ToS. Technically the Vidiotmaps addon violates the ToS but it's been allowed by the Devs for 6 years now and has attained a semi-official status... it's even made a list of "best game sites" for COH.

i picked corrupter (dark blast/dark maisma). it has everything i love about caster classes. high damage output, some healing, and immobilizers. sounds like a lot of fun. i love playing the 'bad guy' so even the names are awesome for what i'm looking for.

One note on DM: Howling Twilight is more like an AoE stun and great regen debuf... that just happens to rez nearby allies. I use HT whenever it's available, rather than when somebody dies.

The great thing about this game is that powers don't really get outdated as you level up. Control sets continue to use their ST holds and immobilizes, blast sets continue to use their T1 and T2 attacks (especially Blasters, who can use them while mezzed), armor sets continue to use their first defensive powers... you never work your butt off to earn Fira only to replace it with Firaga later.

Note : When they say Arcana is very knowledgeable, they mean she's taught some of the developers things about their game they didn't know :P
i'll keep an eye out for those posters. and i'm not too worried about getting my feelings hurt. if you ever check out EJ take a look at their simple questions/simple answers column. they are BRUTAL.
thanks again everyone for all the great tips. |

Vidiotmaps, though, is well known to the developers - so is the couple of people that tend to make different and/or more correct icons for powers - and mentioning them and their packs has not resulted in moderations of posts/deleting of posts/banning of people.
The devs "wink" at the above couple of people/groups, but do not officially endorse them due to the company's policy. The method used by the packs could very easily, I think, be closed off. If one does not wish to run an .exe to install them, it's possible to simply do a drag & drop of the new files in to the correct folders.

Twilight Grasp (Dark Miasma) and Transfusion (Kinetics) are the two strongest AoE healing powers in the entire game. As a bonus, they're quick-recharging and debuff regeneration for those long AV fights. TG also debuffs tohit, while Transfusion saps endurance. |
And the "leech" heals (requires a target) a) have a higher than standard base accuracy, b) heal unenhanced as much as the non-leech aura heals heal fully enhanced, or there abouts, anyway.

Well, you can pull up detailed power information right in-game. If you have a power (or a recipe, or an enhancement), DRAG the icon into your chat bar and drop it. It will not be removed from where you were dragging from and it will put the name in the chat line. Hit <enter> and it will bring up an info screen.
i just really want to dig into the mechanics of this game. maybe there's something out there and i'm not finding it.

You can do this for ANY power or item in the game, even if you don't have it. You just need to know the name and put it in square brackets. For example, type the following into your chat line:
[Dry Heave] <enter>
Seriously, that's actually a power.
The players can't have it, but I think it's the best power name in the game.

You can also drag a power icon to the chat entry line and will do the same thing (with hidden AT/powerset info). When dragged like this it will always be for the AT/Powerset the linking player has.

Note the powerset name (especially when just typing a power name in, like [Brawl]). For instance, with brawl, it mention being in the 5th Column powerset - which won't reflect how it is for players, necessarily.
You might also have it go to the Controller version of a power instead of a dominator, so if it's a control power it would list the +1mag proc instead of the double mag effect for domination.

another small program that works somewhat like an Add-On is CoHLCD. It allows you to have the basic info of your character displayed on the G15 keyboard LCD screen.
It works with Herostats, and displays things like your health/end, xp 2 level, Total influence, it can also be used to track your chat channels so you don't have to keep them on screen at all time.
there is a thread a bit lower in this section for it if you want to download it.
Quick note! Noob in the city is an annoying bugger who THINKS they know how to play but really don't and won't listen to anyone that tells them different.
You eternalYouth are a Newb you are willing to listen to long time players and want to Improve your knowledge and skill.
SO Welcome to the City! I don't think I can tell you anything that the others haven't. Thought...
DO NOT RUSH TO 50! The City of Hero/Villain content is focused on the Journey not the End game content. There will (as far as we know it's Never) be no increase of level cap. We are getting a new system called incarnate but that due in Issue 19.
I been playing for close to 4 years and still haven't done all the story arcs. Take your time we can even turn off XP (under Options) to stay at a level of contacts to follow a story.
