What do you mean by 'searching everywhere'? On the market, you really just need to have enough cash (and that's a lot). Trying to get them as drops, you need to be fighting level 47+ enemies. And fight lots of them. If you're on a team, your chance to get the drop is reduced, because the drop will be randomly assigned to one team member. The fastest way to get purple drops would be soloing -1/x8 missions at level 48-50, though many people prefer +0/x8 at level 50 since the non-purple drops will sell better that way.

I have only gotten one ever. Its all a matter of randomness and fighting the appropriate level enemies.
I just buy mine. They really don't cost nearly as much as the Last 5 Sold claims they do.

Eh, for a lot of characters purples are overrated... many builds need different set bonuses than they provide and I'm not convinced that they're really worth the cost.
The only purple sets I've ever bothered with are the relatively inexpensive confuse & sleep ones; the rest are just prohibitive in cost/benefit. I'll happily take the drops I get and sell them to those of you with more money than sense... I recently had a Armageddon triple sell for over 700 million.
If you really want purples then you've two choices... either kill lots of 47+ mobs and hope lighting strikes or pony up the cash to buy them on the market. Personally I have way too many characters I play to put that kind of cash into one. My most expensive build is my perma-PA Ill/Rad and I did that for around 600 million with a little patience... most of my builds come in well under 200 million.

They are worth it: on my fire blaster, my dark melee/electric brute, and my regen scrapper. Those are my 3 heavily purpled toons.
They will be worth it: on my war shade. I have the sets ready and waiting in my base, I just need to get to 50. ^_^
Would not be worth it: on my invul tanker and scrapper or my ma/wp scrappers... or probably on most of my other toons. Massive recharge is nice but not always your #1 priority, and that's mostly what purples are good for.
Oh, and... two weeks ago I spent most of a week soloing radio missions at -1/+8 in PI in order to get all of the safeguard side mission badges... as many as 10-12 missions a night... and I got 3-4 purple drops during that time. ^_^
