Interested in New CoX wiki for lore?
I say just add to the current wiki and make it more robust.
I'm only ladylike when compared to my sister.
Paragon wiki sucks for lore. It just does. It's built for a wholey different purpose and thus makes it incredibly convoluted and iredeemably badly designed for people who just want lore. Not to mention Paragon wiki doesn't include things that are part of lore because it is not explicitly stated in the game... like Speedsters exist in lore, but not in game mechanics so Wiki doesn't really mention them... Same things with changing size powers.
WHICH Wiki are you looking at? The Wikia one is actually old and wrong, and their advertisements can even pose a security risk.
If you mean the CoHTitan, then I believe you may be interested in their sister-site, Ouroboros Portal.
The problem is that the information for lore is far too spread out and is weighed down by the game info from which it is derived. It's a design thing that more often than not over looks the lore component so that it can describe or talk about a mechanics or direct information.
The site works well for game information, but is absolutely horrible, in it's design, for the lore. That's not a bad thing. It's just how it works sometimes with designs.
For example:
Rikti Earth: Home of the Rikti. Rikti Earth destroyed magic and gods early in its history and was visited by an unknown alien power around the time of 2000 B.C. The Rikti are genetically similar to humans but were altered by the aliens that visited them into having a "Hive Mind". |
I see what Durakken is saying. CoHTitan/Paragon wiki ect.. is focused on seeing the game as a game primarily and then as a story here and there. For instance: If you look up a Clockwork Paladin on CoH Titan it will give you information on how to battle him, where to find him, and what badges he wil give you. As opposed to explaining how he corresponds in the lore, and things such as that. What we are talking about is purely lore based wiki that looks at the game like a story as opposed to the mechanics.
The current Paragonwiki has an Ouroboros Portal for a more community driven knowledge base. Maybe tack on another section devoted more to the lore, like expanding the timeline and just containing the tidbits you learn through story arcs rather than info on the story arcs themselves. Call it the Midnighter Archives or something?
If the guys at the Titan Network* were to do something like this, would you contribute?
Y'know, I think I would.
*I'm NOT affiliated with the Titan Network, but they do great work.
I'd definitely be interested in a wiki for the lore and plotlines of the game, especially as they are constantly being added to and updated!
Don't get me wrong, I love the Paragon Wiki for what it does, but bar a few notable pages, it doesn't really go into any depth about the lore, history, comics, novels etc.
I'd certainly read this and possibly even contribute, when possible or needed
We built this city on Rock and Roll!
Ah, well, I would be quite happy if you went ahead and compiled that lore data and posted it in each of the pages. There's nothing saying that's not the way this Wiki's meant to be. It's just that the primary contributers haven't bothered.
Have at it! You're got my (emotional) support, Durak!

I use that mainly as a base because a Wiki interface would probably work best for what I believe you mean.
For example, having "Rikti" as an entry will have background information on the Rikti, with links to the "First Rikti War" "Rikti War Zone" lore site and the like, is that what you're aiming for? Or am I thinking in the wrong direction :P
Not exactly... cuz Rikti isn't really what I would call a primary thing...
On the front page I'd put...
Multiverse, Powers, Archtypes, Races, Technology
For the most part those are table of contents for each of those areas... but the multiverse would divide into each universe...so if we were to select Rikti Earth which would be listed as something like:
official name: ??? Nick name: Rikti Earth Distinguishing feature: Where the Rikti are from.
When you click on that you'd get another break down, perhaps a pop up... that would let you select one of the following
Organizations, History, People, Maps (redrawn and labeled)
Clicking on Organizations would give you a list of all the organizations in that universe, their history, their members, their connections,
Clicking on History would give you the history of the universe as a whole, both known and possible known (such as the destined one arcs and ouroborus future arcs)
Clicking on People would give you a list of all the people who call the universe home (obviously with links to their own bios... and each of these bios are also cross referenced as they would be in any wiki. The bio would contain all known info about that character's history and powers [not the individual powers but more along their sets...])
Clicking on Maps would give you all the maps available for that universe and all the information relating to each map (for example did Washington DC get blow up? that should be mentioned)... and as a continuous project i would love to have map re drawn and have the street labels and building labeled where we know them. This would also have all info on those buildings in those maps
The power section would talk about origins of powers, manifestations, and how they are used rather than "fireball : Minor DoT" it would talk about the manifestation of Fire
The archtype section... i dunno >.> seems like it should go here and it doesn't really fit anywhere else.
Technology section... this is separate because technology is passed around worlds and is separate from them...even though the tech may have an origin the tech itself is important to reference on it's own.
Races section would be to talk about Rikti and Kheldian and various other races biology and such. What do we know about them as a species, where do they come from, how do they communicate, etc... This is different from their culture and such which is part of their universe...sure it effects it, but it should be handled separately. And when you say "where are they from?" you simply link over to it.
This stream lining allows for quick and concise information gather and input. In stead of looking for a paragraph that says "The rikti are from x" You look in races and that has a thing that has "Origin: Rikti Earth" and that links you to the Rikti earth universe page. You clearly know what one page is talking about and what the other is and even though they are separate page they work as a unit. rather than a garbled mess which is what we sorta have right now for anything other than game stuff in paragonwiki.
That sounds convoluted.
If one was set up i would use it and add anything that i know.
So it seems people would like it so... Rick are you going to get CoHTitan to do it cuz that is what it sounds like where this is going...
Rick is not affiliated with Titan Network. He misspoke.
I am affiliated with Titan Network (as an admin at Paragon Wiki), and while I think the idea is interesting, I doubt the rest of Titan would want to host another wiki, especially since it would cover information that could easily be added to Paragon Wiki (as long as it is sourced, any information can be added to PWiki).
The Ouroboros Portal is for player-created content (character pages, supergroup pages, fiction, etc), so this would not belong there.

In a case like this using the timeline as the over-arching organizing principle might be best, because history seems to be the most logical way to handle the unfolding of the lore. Of course, then you need to decide whether to start with at the beginning of Paragon City or the opening of Pandora's Box or just straight-forward linear time, with the origin being back at the dawn of time.
So far, the closest example of how I'd organize it is the White Wolf wiki, which has a timeline of its universe as one of the things you can look at.
The Alt Alphabet ~ OPC: Other People's Characters ~ Terrific Screenshots of Cool ~ Superhero Fiction
Aggelakis is right, there should be a "not" in there...
I'd like a wiki for OUR toons only. Their stories and how/if they tie into the CoH canon/lore.
Like Virtueverse?
Riktipedia?
Comrade Smersh, KGB Special Section 8 50 Inv/Fire, Fire/Rad, BS/WP, SD/SS, AR/EM
Other 50s: Plant/Thorn, Bots/Traps, DB/SR, MA/Regen, Rad/Dark - All on Virtue.
-Don't just rebel, build a better world, comrade!
I was thinking that it might be cool to set up a wiki for the Lore of the CoH Multiverse.
I personally would love to have something like this...something that gets right to the lore and none of the rest of the junk for those of us that just want to get to the lore.
So question...
Who else would be interested in it?
Who else would help work on it?
The way I'm thinking about setting it up is..
Have these 5 main categories: Multiverse, Powers, Archtypes, Races, Technology
Multiverse is then broken down into the various universes and each of those are broken down into: Organizations, History, People, Maps (redrawn and labeled)
so what think you all?
edit: sorry for double post accidentally posted it in wrong section >.>
