MM noob here
Leave them in BG mode. If you call them back into BG mode after them being in aggressive or something, they won't always fire back right away when you take damage.
"One day we all may see each other elsewhere. In Tyria, in Azeroth. We may pass each other and never know it. And that's sad. But if nothing else, we'll still have Rhode Island."
The delay to pets not retaliating is 5 seconds after they've been put in BG mode. MMs should almost always stay in BG mode, whether full (all pets) or partial (most pets).
ok thx that explains alot. That's such weak sauce for my playstyle which is to switch back and forth depending on my opponents animation times and if he is mezzed/KBed. This game really does not reward skills... i guess ima have to sit there in BG mode and spam debuffs like the rest of the MMs till the dude dies on his own lol. I swear how do people actually die by MMs? But i'll figure something out where i can take advantage of multitasking or something else that requires skill.

Once you have enough HP you can afford to leave a couple of minions in BG mode and send the rest to attack. That should buy you enough time to heal and go back into full BG if **** hits the fan. |
Its possible to get 1300hp and a res shield on top of that. Picking a set with a self heal and getting phase makes it even more possible to fight out of BG most of the time.
I am going to assume you have the standard Defensive/Follow Macro on your tray or something. The delay between clicking the Macro and the pets attacking is not with Defensive, it's actually with the follow command. A lot of masterminds don't realize you can also order your pets to Stay or Goto and have them in BG mode still, as long as it's Defensive/Stay or Defensive/Goto and you are near them (I think 60 feet). That delay is actually very nice. I love it when some dumb blaster or troller comes and lays snow storm or ice slick on me to try and make my pets do silly things; I just tap follow every now and again and they ignore everything while I still remain in BG mode.
When I'm in RV on mine, people usually can't tell if I'm really in BG mode or not usually because if I order my pets to attack something and they realize I'm out of BG mode and start attacking me, I'll just order my pets into Stay (since they were in Defensive/Attack, it just goes to Defensive/Stay) and I'm back in full BG mode and the pets keep on trucking. And since stay has no effect on them actually staying in one spot they are free to follow whatever attacked me. I just have to remember to put them back on follow before I move out.
This works well when, during fiteklub (I know, lolfiteklub), someone wants me to make the first move. I simple order only half my pets to attack and keep half in Def/Follow. They usually think I'm full out and try to spike me. Once they attack me, I then order my pets to Def/Goto at some position or stay and I'm back at full protection again. Also if your pets start to be retarded and wonder off into the distance while you're being attacked, you can keep tapping follow til your pets start to listen and come back, then quickly switch back to Def/stay and they will immediately retaliate once again.
I suggest if you want to be more aggressive with the MM while in zone or something, you have a macro that only takes half your pets out of BG mode, so you still have some protection but you aren't waiting there for someone to look at your funny, like ****** on a street corner. It takes getting the hang of, but it helps when you need to switch back and forth from BG mode.

I usually keep the big pet on aggressive or controlled but the rest are in defensive mode. That way I keep the best of both worlds since the biggest henchman usually has most of the the damage capacity.
TY all ive approved of your reps
What's a good way to travel for a MM in zone play? Is it better to sprint around or team teleport or what? I've tried to play pvp mm's a bit but the pets straggling behind is a bit of an issue. Also should you go after your target or let it come to you and try to ground it?
If you play on Freedom, there is a good MM that plays in the zone. I believe his name is Sombra de la something.... He plays his MM well and you may get some tips from him.
Follow Defensive - Body Guard mode, has a few seconds whereby they are in limbo, unretaliatiing, and your damage isnt spashed around.
Use Goto Defensive instead, this puts them in bodyguard mode as soon as you click where you want them to go, and they fight seemlessly, froma ggressive, though they will not always target the same enemy.
ok so i put my pets on defensive which puts them in BG mode, great thats nice but they don't retaliate when im hit. Actually they do attack back but it takes them 15 sec or so to react, and by that time a blaster could have me at half hp already lol. I fight MMs plenty and everytime i hit them their pets hit back immediately so what am i doing wrong here? Also anyone got a sure-fire BG mode bind that makes sure your pets fight back and stay in BG mode? thx ahead of time.
