Ideas for Anniversary Event Badges

Okay, I didn't see any posts with this idea so I figured I'd throw it out there after talking about it for an extended period of time with some SG mates.
Perhaps the CoH Anniversary badges could be switched from per character to an account wide form, much like "Early bird" from the AE badges.
I know a bunch of people who'd be happy about not having to log thirty plus alts on one after another when the badges are released just because they don't want to miss that badge.
And I'm not saying the Dev's should allow people to buy the anniversary badges, or something stupid like that, no, this would just be for people who already have them, as a way for their alts to get them as well, should they want one for a badge title, or something along those lines.

What do you think guy's, good idea? Bad idea?

The idea has come up from time to time and we are divided on this.

Myself, I have no problem that future Anniversary badges gets to be account wise. However making old badges like the 1 and 2'nd anniversary global, means that you will have characters like a Soldier of Arachnos with this badge and that Archtype was not around when those badges were awarded (well as player controlled AT anyway).

Sure I'd agree having to log in 30+ alts to get the latest Anniversary badge on all of them would be a bit tedious. But then again you only have to go through that cycle once a year.

If the Anniversary badges had been designed to be global from the beginning that would have been fine enough. But since they weren't I really don't see a big enough deal to justify changing them now. Some of us have already "put up" with this situation for 6 years now. As cool as this game is it's not like it's going to last for that many more years anyway. *shrugs*

This suggestion is brought up quite frequently in the Suggestion forum, and via private discussions with the devs. The general consensus is very much for this idea, but the devs are still working on a way to implement it.

I, for one, have been here since CoV launched. When I rerolled my main last year, I lost the first 4 anniversary badges. It would be nice to get those back again.

With the upcoming side-switching system in GR, I know quite a few people that intend to reroll older characters. Making the previous anniversary badges global per account vice per character would definitely make that transition nicer.

I am for this idea, as my badger was made a month after the 1st anniversary badge ended. My account was active about 9 months before the anniversary, so I was here. I'd even be willing to pay $10 or something for it, since I don't really care to have it on all my characters.

This has been discussed since the anniversary badges were released. Here's one thread where the discussion was bunted about on both sides. I'll answer your argument with my opinion from that same thread.

Be warned. The responses tend to be very much redstate vs bluestate. Take everyone's opinion into account, and form/rehash your own. But to answer your original question, I'd call it a bad idea. Click the link above to see why.

The anniversary badges are the only badges I have an issue with since they are badges awarded to the character based solely on the action of the PLAYER logging in and are otherwise no longer obtainable.

I understand the logic behind them, but I believe the dev's would have made these badges global if they had the hindsight they do now seeing as how Positron's gone on record saying they weren't aware of how great the appeal of collecting badges was. They seen them as a sort of a "oh cool I just happened to get X badge" mentality.

I somewhat understand the idea that some people have that "my toon wasn't around for the badge so I don't want him to have it," so I think the badges should have a kind of button like the Vet badges do.

You can pick and choose which characters get the badge by logging them in individually, but the badges have a button that rewards the badge (or maybe even a pseudo anniversary badge so people can tell the difference) to the rest of the characters on the account.

This method would let accounts that want the badges toon specific to keep it that way, it would make it easier for those who have to log in 10+ characters, and the dev's wouldn't have to write up an algorithm to auto-detect accounts who have the badge on one character to reward the rest.

I've always thought that the Anniversary badges should, with some other badges be moved to an "account badges" tab, and awarded account wide. I've pushed for such for a while now.

Ah thanks, I'm glad to know this has bee brought up before.... tho that thread seems to be based on the idea of getting earlier badges, while not having them... at least that seems to be what the OP had in mind, my way wouldn't be granting the older badges unless one already had them on at least one character, essentially just spreading out amongst your various characters, just making is faster and less worrisome then having to log every single one of your characters on so they can have that one badge.

I appreciate your side of the argument tho, after all I did ask you if you thought it was a good or bad idea.

Ah, that's a really good idea, it would be nice to have a separate section for the account wides.

Figured I'd revive this thread, as I wanted to hear more of the forum member's opinions on the topic.

I'm aware of the pros and cons, but my opinion is that they should be global. It would be nice to have a "I was around back then" badge, which represents whether the player was online at the time it was given.

Vet badges kind of do this but actually, unless you've had your account on the whole 6 years its difficult to tell how much of a veteren some people are once they get into the 30+ months.

Personally I have the 1yr, 2yr, 4yr, 5yr and 6yr badges, but most only have 5 and 6..

I would like to see the 5th Column gladiator awarded for having two or more anniversary badges instead of just the first two.

The first step in being sane is to admit that you are insane.

Split among my characters on various servers I've got 3rd 4th 5th and 6th
Only reason I've even kept the characters on my original server was for precisely the idea that the badges might be made account wide.
