City of Heroes 2?

I found out from reading gameinformer magazine (this month), that Cryptic has filed a trademark for City of Heroes 2. I didn't see any threads on this and there might be one on here, but I had to let all of you know whats going on in the MMO industry with Cryptic right now. I found it very funny that a company that already has a superhero MMO would try another make on CoH. I also found it funny that Andy McNamara the magazines Editor-N-Chief would find this to be a good idea on Cryptic's part. Weird, anyways hope you get some enjoyment out of knowing that they are trying to remake this game.

If Gameinformer wrote that Cryptic filed the trademark, then they need to do their research. NCsoft owns the City of* franchise now and they filed the trademark paperwork April 1st.

I know that, but do they own the..."City of Heroes 2" name? It's like making a company emblem and changing the color or design and filing a trademark for it. From what I know you can do that, people and companies have tried to sue, but it all comes down to how closely related the emblem or name is. This, is something I wonder if they can really do? It says that they have already filed it...don't know if it will fly though. It will be fun to watch!!!!

Whatever idjit journalists write, its NCSoft and Paragon Studios who now own the CoH2 trademark. End of.

Alright, well thats what you "think," i'm sure they have investigated it and found that they might be able to do it. The magazine can't just put something in print if it wasn't checked. I mean, they could, but why? They seem, by the writer that it's a good idea...I can't wait to see what happens over the next couple of months!

Well, magazines and newspapers do that every day. Maybe they are too lazy to check, maybe they know informations are false but it makes money (well, not hte case here)

There are plenty reasons for papers to leak false informations.

Anti, did you look at the trademark information?

You'll see it say this: Current Status: Newly filed application, not yet assigned to an examining attorney.

This may be why Crytpic might me filing if the name hasn't been assigned to an attorney yet for NCsoft? Maybe NCsoft sat on it to long and Cryptic found that out?

True that, there are plenty of reasons. Although, it was a small article in the magazine and if you want to read it, it was on page 17 of the mag!

First I've heard of Cryptic having anything to do with CoH2.

I can either:
1) Chalk it up to bad reporting and believe every other source on CoH2 thus far

or

2) Believe Cryptic's in some sort of Machiavellian plot and going up against NCsoft for reasons unknown

All submitted by NCSoft, april 1st. these are the only records on there for that trademark.
Magazine had failed to research.
Thanks for doing what I have no idea how to do

LOL, know doubt...I hope it's the first, but if not? Funny thing is, the article that Anti gave from IGN, it has the same ring as most politians use.

When reached for comment, NCsoft West provided this statement: "City of Heroes is a flourishing franchise and continues to be the world's most popular super-powered hero MMO. While we cannot comment on City of Heroes 2 at this time, NCsoft is proud of City of Heroes' success and is looking forward to future product launches associated with the franchise, including the City of Heroes Going Rogue expansion scheduled for release this July."

Theres not one thing in that reponce that says, we own it!

No doubt, good research man! Still, I wonder why the executive producer of Cryptic (STO) - (Craig Zinkievich) would tell (gameinformer) the magazine that they personnelly are filing for the rights though?

Eh. The CoH2 info's been up and around so much it's left the "Scooped" section and dove right into the "We know" setting.

The magazine article itself was in the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly section, Swellguy. They mentioned Cryptic had trademarked CoH2 while discussing the lack of console port for STO and CO.

I sent them an e-mail mentioning this error.

Hell know man, it's right in the magazine on page 17 of the new issue I got yesterday. The page was called "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly!" It's about Cryptic and there MMO's (CO & STO) STO was trying to be added to console and Micosoft wont let them do it and right below that, it says: The good news is that the company has filed a trademark for City of Heroes 2. Nothing about NCsoft, only about Cryptic and what they are trying to do.
