new AT: Pet
Oh also this is not treading on Controller or Mastermind territory, nor beast masters...
Controllers = Control a force or a group or type of something... These guys don't "control" anything. They work in a coop with the pet. Pets are "uncontrollabe" and more of an aside to the power.
Masterminds = are about controlling a group of minions while you back them up in some way. Pets are supposedly expendable and are more just a simple 1 for 1 replacement for the stats you would have as another AT.
Beastmasters/tamers = control of any animals around and using them to provide your strength/defense. Same as mastermind, but with animals...
Pets = on the other hand would work in conjunction with their partner... They are partners, not subject/minion.
This AT would not step on the toes of the other pet ATs...
Another cool idea would be is that with say the Dragon set the Dragon would start as a hatchling and as you level up it would grow into an adult dragon...
Also this would be a great AT to include a "sidekick set" which would be cool.
If you want a partner to fight along side that badly, why not just team up with a buddy
*pop*
Now look what you've done. You just repair reality right now young man. I mean it!
I sorta like the idea personally, but I'm not sure if it would work or if it would be perceived as a wanna-be Mastermind by people (perceived being the operative word there).
Also wouldn't they (as in the summoner / master / whatever) be a bit limited or squishy? Is the primary Ranged or Melee (or Assault?)
I think it would be better to call it a mid ranged fighter, which this game is severely lacking
Kinetic melee if I saw it right would be considered mid ranged... maybe a bit more distance than what I saw, but a lot shorter than ranged stuff.
I would include
Pole Arms
Thrown projectiles such as darts, boomerangs, chakrams <- least likely workable.
The pulse blast that Iron man has which sends out a short range burst
Nodachis
Kinetic melee would fit
Various elemental attacks
Chains and whips
Obvious secondaries stated above.
Dragon
Elemental Birds
Robot
Mechsuit
Sidekick
Large feline/canine
Other Birds
The big problem with this AT is conceptually it's all over the place and instead of having pretty similar powers to every other power in the set it would focus on building around the pet and it's abilities...
for example the
Dragon pet would pretty much add a 2nd or 3rd hit every few attacks just by toggling it on.
However a tier 6-9 power might be a merging power where the Dragon merges with the character to give it armor and strength boost...
Where as a mechsuit would have that power as it's main toggle... Elemental birds would have a similar power, but other birds and the feline/canine wouldn't have anything like it...
Great idea i was thinking the same thing.
Just to make sure you're aware of what you're asking.
A new AT with New Primary and Secondary power sets Unique to this AT, forever ensuring that no powerset proliferation can ever occur.
There is no other AT in the game which can boast that amount of focus. Every AT shares at least one powerset (Primary or Secondary or Both) with at least one other AT in the game.
The closest thing to a "Exceptions" to that rule are Blasters and Dominators, who both have a "Proprietary" secondary and Masterminds who have a proprietary primary.
Think of how many new powersets we've gotten in the past six years.
Issue 5 introduced 4 powersets. Archery, Trick Arrow, Sonic Blast, and Sonic Resonance.
Issue 6/CoV introduced Electric Melee, Electric Armor, Plant Control, and Energy Aura as powersets. It also introduced Robots, Zombies, Mercenaries, and Ninjas as Mastermind powersets.
Issue 7 introduced the Thugs Mastermind primary power.
Issue 11 dropped Willpower and Dual Blades.
Issue 12 saw Mental Manipulation, a shuffling of Psi powers with a few new ones added in.
Issue 13 saw Pain Domination and Shields
Issue 16 dropped Earth Assault for Dominators.
And in Issue 18 you can purchase 4 new powersets. Dual Pistols, Demon Summoning, Electric Control, and Kinetic Melee.
That's 23 new powersets in the past 6 years. That's -almost- 4 per year, not including the launch powers. And, in all fairness, we probably shouldn't count the Launch powers of CoV which would be 9 powersets taken off and roughly 2 and 1/3rd every year.
As it is Masterminds have gotten a pitiful 3 New powersets in the past several years.
You're suggesting they divert even -more- time and energy into another AT, but this AT can never offer the work put into it to other ATs to "spread the effort" around.

I could see this idea being more doable if they made it a new kind of general Power Pool instead of a Secondary Power set. That way you avoid the problem with "unique" power sets that couldn't be proliferated and you would open it up so that anyone could potentially have a "sidekick" pet if they wanted.

it could just be made a Ancileray MM Pool....i dunno maybe
"Power Share" - Gives your pets access to your primary attack powers.
"Buff share" - Gives your pets access to your support powers.
"Fusion" - for Mercs maybe their pile into a tank and their collective hp and dmg become the base of the new "tank pet" while ninja i dunno create a spirit animal, robots just do the Malta, and zombies and demons can merge into a mega beastie. Clones could pile into a small mini cooper, etc.

Too specific for powerset proliferation, but not different enough to really be unique or needed.

Do you mean, comparitively, like a hunter and their pet in WoW?
oops. mentioned another game. Carp I'm bad at this...
Yeah that's a crappy name...
Basically this AT would consist of a Primary power set that is the PC's weapon or other powers... while the secondary would be the Pet's powers.
Each Pet secondary set gets 1 pet as their first power. They don't get multiple pets (unless it makes sense as a single pet such as a swarm of bees) The pet would be a toggle power that consumes no end.
Ideas would include
Dragon
Phoenix
Mecha
And one could also see something like "power armor" could fit into this group as as the power armor would act as the pet to the player...
