Message from Wendy Dio
Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45am 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private good-byes before he peacefully passed away. Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all. We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us. Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss. Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever.

He will be missed very much. Those that may not have heard his music there are many good songs including but not limited to "Mob Rules", "Holy Diver", "The Last in Line", "Rainbow in the Dark", "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Sacred Heart"

I was saddened to hear this today. He was definitely one of my all time favorites. His music was a very big thing to a certain long-haired, leather jacket wearing kid in the early 80s.

Stomach cancer...rough way to go...

Well, heaven was too quiet and calm. They need someone screaming at a few zillion decibels to liven things up.

Ronnie! That's your cue!

Oh yeah. Watch it with "the horns". The big guy might not like that.

(Oh yeah. Reverse psychology...)

Personally, I never cared for Dio's music, and didn't know anything about the man. I know he influenced a lot of people in the music industry, but that's it.

Personal tastes I guess. But I never cared for any of MJ's music, I tolerated the Thriller Video because it was cool.

While Dio's death is a tremendous loss to the hard rock/heavy metal community, Michael Jackson's death (by accident or negligence) was a significant event worldwide. Granted, whether those feel that he was a "pedophile" or not (he was acquitted at his trial and paid off his 1st accuser which leaves the door open for folks to make that claim and with some merit), his musical and cultural impacts are still resonating to this day. While his musical influence in the United States plummeted after the accusations, the string of hits that he had (from the days in the Jackson 5, to the Jacksons and his solo work) was staggering for any artist or band.

When Elvis Presley passed away, in my opinion was the 2nd day the music died. Another giant (no pun intended) who's music has transcended generations. John Lennon, James Brown, there are so many that have been lost over the years, but for the hard rock/metal fan, Dio would be (for now) near the top of the list.

I like Dio, I can't say I own anything by him and I have a Black Sabbath 2CD set of hits (which include some of his work), I know the solo hits and he did have a truly impressive set of pipes.

Hard rock/heavy metal music lost a legend. May he rest in peace.
