Since the latest I17 I can't run a mission without getting Map servered at least once, often times 2, 3 or 4 times. It will either say Mapserver Disconnected or Lost Connection to Mapserver. Anyone have an idea?

Here's my COH Helper data.

Thanks

Are you using any kind of port forwarding on a router to play the game?

No. I can't set up any kind of Port Forwarding.

Why, is that good or bad? In the past, according to some tips here I had a few ports forwarded for CoH, but checking my router, the only port I have forwarded is for my bitorrent client. I'm having the same problems as the OP, does port forwarding for CoX help or hurt?

Depends a lot on your ISP I believe. It may all be circumstantial but in other locations that I've lived CoX ran smoother because the ports were forwarded and therefor the data stream was open for it to send and receive information more accurately.

I was experimenting between Live and Test last night after comparing the netgraphs between the two and noticed I was getting abnormal amounts of red and yellow spikes on Live, but on Test this wasn't the case. Now keep in mind Live has a larger strain put on it due to server loads. What interested me was the fact that while I had port forwarding enabled and set for Live. The possibility was there that Test uses different ports (Only a theory).

When I disabled the ports recommended for Live the netgraphs started matching. No abnormal spikes and my gameplay was much smoother (Was actually able to increase my graphics settings with Ultra Mode too, which runs fine on Test). This seemed to have corrected the weird stuttering I was getting from data trying to be received or sent like I had been previously getting.

Was just a suggestion since it was a connection issue. Thought that perhaps it would also explain why you might be getting your problems. But since you don't have any port forwarding setup, it doesn't apply here. Sorry I couldn't help you.

This a wired or wireless network?

It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.

This is happening to me as well. No ports forwarded and connected to a wired LAN. It isn't as often, maybe once or twice a play session and others in one of my chat channels have it happen as well at the same time. Now, this is Freedom server and as it is happening to more than just me I am inclined to think it is not my rig.

To the op, are you soloing? Does it happen to any of your friends at the same time?

I've also been having issues with constantly being Mapserver'd. I almost always get disconnected shortly after I log in, or after loading up into a new mission. It's getting annoying. I'm using my college's internet (I have wireless and direct internet cable) so that might be an issue?

This very accurately discribes my situation as well. There is no one thing that seems to make it happen more offten then not. It happens at least one per mission, very often when I fight the first mobs, sometimes two times per mission, though if it does happen a third time I usually just quit at that point. Many time when I first log in, within the first 10 minutes it will Map me also. Solo or grouped there seems to be no difference.

No I know my internet is not great, on a good day my ping is at about 900 and I watch my netgraph every session and will often get lots and lots of red and yellow pops. But the mapserver thing just started since I17. A few times I've been able to go for an hour without a drop. But that's been very rare lately.

I'm also having this problem.

I have 2 PCs using my cable modem. One is wired through ethernet to the router (and hence to the modem), and that machine is generally fine - rarely any connection issues. The other PC is wireless, connecting to the router through it's 802.11g. This PC is mapserving/lost connection-ing and freezing regularly, often while zoning , but also randomly in missions (beginning/middle/end - doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason). Nothing changed in my setup except the addition of i17.

Try turning both music and game sounds down to 0%, then exit the game and restart it. For some of us, that's resolved the repeated mapserver issues.

I will try this. At this point I'm willing to try near anything. Last night I was Mapservered every 15-30 minutes. This went on for about 2 hours until I quit in frustration.

*Edit* Well i tired the sound thing. Still not working. but thanks for the idea.

I was having this issue as well.
Only thing that fixed it for me was hooking up an ethernet cable directly from the modem.

Issue 17 and wireless don't play well together.

Dunno if this will help everyone, but the game was almost unplayable since I17 with the mapservers, rubberbanding, etc. I switched from windowed to full screen, and that helped a LOT for me. I also disabled the occlusion (sp?) settings and took a few other things down. I played for an hour or so, fullscreen, and no mapserves or rubberbanding, I tried the occlusion on the lowest setting and immediately got mapserved.

I'm pretty sure for me switching to fullscreen helped the most so if you're currently playing windowed, try fullscreen.

Mine got better when I turned off all in-game sounds and music. As in, no LCTM messages at all and no disconnections since I did that. Footstomp is no longer quite as much fun without the satisfying "THUMP!" but the game is playable again.

So part of the problem is I17, wireless, and sound, at least for some of us. Given that they changed how some sounds were classified (e.g., mission complete fanfare) and added some new sound effects with I17, there was probably something wonky in the code that interacted badly with the reclassification of sounds and/or the addition of more ambients. No way to know what did it, and I don't envy them the task of trying to figure it out.

I am having the exact same problem with all of my characters. Every 15-20 minutes I get the message "Lost Connection to Mapserver". Seems to happen most frequently when I'm in a mission map, if that makes a difference. I'm on the Freedom server. I've tried turning the graphics up, turning the graphics down and turning all of the sound to 0%, to no avail.

Okay people, quit messing with your own client settings, in hopes it will correct a server side issue. All kinds of people are getting booted like this, red side and blue side (now), with tons of different settings and hardware configurations. During I17 beta, they posted that they were trying out a new server configuration, exactly what that means, I don't know. but the market crash(and subsequent shutdown for a week), and now these disconnects, are server problems. All we can do is report them, and cross out fingers for a prompt fix.

I agree with the overall sentiment there, but it's also true that there are workarounds which suppress the disconnect problem in some cases enough to make the game more or less playable until they fix it.

I am in the same boat. Been playing this game for four years. Except for when my own graphics card crapped out. game ran as smooth as silk. Now, after i-17... mapservers atleast 4 times an hour. Half the time I get kicked out of the game trying to go into my base.

How about some kinda response from a red name?

I've tried, nearly every suggested workaround out there (can't mess with my router though) and nothing has help to date. I hope this is addressed soon. This has gotten me very close to /uninstall.

I fixed up the graphics options on my Ati graphics card, which seemed to have fixed the LCTM problems. Sooo weird. The Great Technology Ghoul is really doing a number on me tonight. If you're having trouble, Endless Night, you might want to try upping the graphics in-game or optimizing the options on your graphics card. There should be some kind of program where you can change that.

Thanks, Earthwyrm. I'll try this tonight and post the results.

Okay, while I was reading the forums in between doing work today (honest boss, only when I just had nothing at all to do) I saw this thread:

http://boards.cityofheroes.com//show...=220722&page=2

It's a little older, and has other folks with wireless/graphics issues. One of the forumites disconnected their USB peripherals and it seemed to mostly cure their mapserving. When I got home today, I gave it a try, too. It's the only thing I did, and it's premature to say "Voila!" and giggle maniacally, but I haven't mapserved, lost a connection, or generally frozed up in near 2 hours of playtime. So, besides sound drivers, there are probably other drivers - or combinations of drivers - which cause wirelessly networked players to experience the wonder that is constant mapserving. I highly suggest trying this too.

But of course, if you don't have stuff plugged in or it doesn't work, then sound turned off is probably the next practical/easy step.

Thanks for the help, Earthwyrm
