SO ... um I am going to lose all of my ios I had stored on the market on all of my toons ??

Posted

Why would you lose them?

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

uhh the market has been down and I heard a rumor everything stored on the market was gone.

The market is down to prevent you from losing anything while they fix a major bug with enhancement/inspiration purchases.

ProTip: Rumor != Fact.

When it's something as major as this, if the person/people telling you this information can't provide irrefutable proof of a red name (Community Rep or Developer) saying it, then it is almost always false.

Rumor.

Well, that explains much.

missed the red name post where they said it was not true? and since I don't have any of my ios stored on the market...>.> what was the bug with the market they had to fix? and if it was so major it required them taking it off line for days - would that not be a no go on go live?? it would be in my book

Didn't show up on Test. Didn't show up until it hit the Live servers and the greater load that the market server has on it here. They can simulate load all they want on the Test server, but it doesn't always show these types of problems.

Basically, if you bought a recipe or whatever you couldn't claim it. It simply wouldn't allow you to retrieve the item or items. Some players had several slots with bought items they couldn't claim filling their slots so that they couldn't buy more or sell something.

In order to try to fix it, the market server(s) had to be taken offline. For one thing, someone else may buy something while they are working on things and not be able to claim it then they'd have to go back through things again. This gives them a more certain way of working on the database and making sure that all of the issues are corrected at once.

The actual showstopper was that people were trying to claim a stack of items that previously weren't capable of stacking (e.g. recipes/enhancements), and were getting back ONLY ONE of the stacked item, instead of however many they purchased. I had three friends bit by this, one lost a whopping 153 million inf value in recipes (but got the recipes later thanks to Support (go team!)) when he bought 10 and only received 1 when removing the stack from market.

Ah, okay, I hadn't heard that issue. I'd only heard of not being able to claim items bought, not that stacks were involved.

Market reports don't interest me much so I just skim them usually.

No matter how much testing you do, it can be difficult / impossible to replicate the live environment. A few unforseen problems cropping up in the live release is inevitable in any software product - no company can afford to pay 100000 testers.

I can't think of a single piece of software ever released that didn't have a few glitches on its first release. Yeah, that's likely a gross exaggeration, but the point remains. The true test is how quickly and comprehensively the company responds once those errors are found. Which is exactly what the Devs are doing here.

Well during the Beta most testers were testing the new interface rather than playing the market and crafting wholesale and probably weren't buying salvage by the stack and therefore didn't see the problem. It's also possible, because the consignment house UI was being tweaked until the very end, the bug was introduced only days before I17 went live and it was missed.

The good news is that there is a patch being tested on the test server that hopefully addresses this so once pushed to Live (it also fixes Intel graphics and an global E-Mail bug) the markets will be back.

Actually, yes, we could have tested it, if they had actually told us that this new feature was there. Since we had no idea we could now have stacks of Enhancements and Inspirations, we had no idea to test it, and so focused on testing the new GUI.

Oh, don't you know, beta testers are supposed to be psychic and test everything that could possibly happen?

Umm no but this is a whole new overhall on the market with new features...and you're not going to test the most obvious of features?? srsly I find it hard to believe NO ONE tested this. The market has been down for how long now?

Seems you overlooked Kheldarn's post earlier.

I saw the post -- I meant the devs..and yes they should have asked closed testers to test it.

I'm almost thinking that it was a last-second addition to I17. I know there was market testing being done by Testers in CB (myself included), and nothing was ever said about it, that I recall...

When the patch showed up on Test on Saturday, I downloaded and applied, then logged in to check it out. I placed 2 Lucks that I had into the Market, and they didn't stack. Then, I made a bid for 2 other Inspirations (I forget which), and was trying to find how to bid on more than 1 at a time. That's when I saw a rather small box next to the area where you enter your bid. There's an X beside it, and then you can enter a number. I bid for 2, it stacked, I "won" both bids, and was able to claim them just fine.

Extended 5 hour maint tomorrow should bring the patch, and bring the markets back...
