I can't seem to pin down, based purely on game text and Mids, which one of the SR powers is, if any, the taunt aura? Can anyone point it out to me and provide some more info on it?
-
The new changes to Procs have me slightly confused. I have a +Chance for End proc in storage that I was going to toss into my Fire/Fire tank's Stamina power.
Is it still worth it there? -
This character is usually used solo, set for +0/x8 (though he is only level 44 at the moment, and many of the IOs are currently being purchased), and I would love some critique.
I went for the soft cap on Smash/Lethal, and tried not to sacrifice too much of his KILL IT WITH FIRE mentality.
Any suggestions are welcome, keeping in mind total budget really can't go much over 2 billion or so.

Ouch! I didn't think I had supplied an "empty or non-existent build" - in fact I thought I had provided build for critique and suggestions on power choices and slotting. Sorry if I wasn't clearer.
-
I want to presage this with the following caveat - I have played here a long time, but I still suck at building characters. That is made doubly so when its a new powerset like these.
I have my character at level 22 right now, and the theme is making it my favorite character. The character powers are chosen largely for theme (dark wizard theme) and while it doesn't need to be able to solo AVs or anything, I do like to contribute when I am on a team.
Most of the time, due to my casual play times, I am solo. The build's available budget is not too high... I have a couple billion spread out over characters, though I do have a small stock of purples I could sell if I really needed to increase the cash. Most of my other builds don't cost more than 500 million or so.
I likely won't get into Incarnate (heck, I still haven't even figured out that system) but I will be (obviously) doing alignment missions to get access to Soul Mastery.
I would welcome any critique and suggestions. Again, the slotting is open, and most of the power choices are open as well, so long as it stays thematic.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions you folks have!

Yup, restarted CoH. Checked the install as well. Rebooted computer. A couple times actually. No setting changes on the video card or any other settings, as near as I can tell. Its been a while since I accessed any of my SGs though, so I am unsure if it coincided with the game update or something else.
-
I am not sure if this belongs here or in the Bugs/Technical section, but I thought if anyone else was encountering this, it would be the base folks.
I just registered a personal SG about an hour ago. Traded in a tonne of Inf to get some startup prestige (I have more Inf than sense) and went to the portal in Atlas to access my base for the first time (yes, I have purchased the permit from the SG Registrar) and when I start to port to the base, I hard crash - game completely locks up and I have to use Task Manager to close it out.
Anyone else having this issue?
EDIT: Just double checked my older characters with existing bases, and the same thing happens. I get the "Map Loading" message, then the load screen comes up, and the progress bar freezes about 5% in, then the game locks up. -
Quote:This would of course be my preferred answer to the whole situation, but unfortunately its just not feasible. I'll hopefully return to VIP status in a short while, but for the next 4-6 months, its not available to me.In my opinion, bad plan. Even under normal conditions, items in email can go poof if the global server sneezes. My suggestion: since you're paying now, keep paying. If you're going to let your subscription lapse, wait for the Freedom release date to be announced then renew a week ahead of that. If you are VIP status at the time of the change-over, you have no worries. Then you'll have a few weeks to read up on the finalized details of SG's, the Consignment House, etc and be able to make a fully informed decision.
-
Yes Coolio, but as the materials you posted very accurately and succinctly lay out - none of them answer the questions posed. I did read it, extensively in fact. I understand that perhaps to you those are answers, but other than the slot answer, the other three remain very nebulous. Which is why I came seeking enlightenment from those more carefully monitoring the information.
I do appreciate your attempt to help though - helpful players are one of the best things about this game. -
Quote:Yes... Not to snarky, but not a single one of my questions is answered there (maybe the slot one), and I spent a lot of time looking.
Thanks to everyone else though.... For now we're still waiting for more info I suppose. I did take the precaution of putting my most valuable crafted enhancements into the inventories of my two main characters. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid - I cringe to think how much I'll still lose if I can't access the storage. -
OK, I have used search more than I care to think of tonight, been over to Paragonwiki.com a dozen times and read through 90+ pages of the Discussion threads, but I can't find anything resembling the answers I need to get my head around the switch, so I come here, hoping beyond hope that someone can answer (or even give me the scuttlebutt) on a few issues.
I'm a 54 month (56 actually) play vet (took some time off here and there, but the siren song of CoH always pulls me back), with all the associated badges. For reasons beyond my control I won't be renewing my yearly membership here at CoH, and greeted the initial announcement of F2P (sort of, I know) with great glee! Even though I may not be able to pay to play any longer, I would still be able to enjoy this game that I love. But...
1) I have a personal SG. Its been suggested that personal SGs won't be effected for the "Premium" players, but it still appears that they may not be possible. Another thread suggested that I likely have nothing to worry about, but does anyone have a more definitive answer? Preferably with a quote or something to back it up? I have billions in crafted enhancements in my storage, and would really, really hate to lose access to that. Not to mention the amount of time invested into building a fully functional (and dare I say smashingly well decorated) base by myself.
2) Premium players have 2 slots, plus any they "purchased" previously. A) Does this include those slots redeemed previously via Veteran Rewards? Seems to, based on the "you won't lose your old vet reward stuff" clause, but no really firm answer on this one. And B) will those of us with dozens of characters (and only maybe 6-8 redeemed slots, none purchased) be given the choice of which of our existing characters will be ported over? I'll have a hell of a time picking to be honest, but there are about 6 that I would really hate to lose. Yes, I know they'd be waiting for me when I can get back to VIP status, but I'd love to have access to them sooner.
3) If one goes into every character and emails their influence and enhancements (assuming one is really, really paranoid about losing the SG base and characters in the switch) to one's global, how safe would that be, given the distinction between Free and Premium players, and the overall issues with huge Issue related changes? I know this one is pure conjecture, but I was hoping someone may have insight into how Issue releases can / have messed with outstanding emails. Of course, this carries its own risks, if the I21 release is more than 60 days from my last day of account play, I'd lose them all... bah!
4) Just how "Limited" will Premium access to the Auction House be??? Those stored enhancements and my crafting badges aren't nearly as important if I suddenly can't get reasonable access to the AH. That may make me a sad camper, though my characters will certainly level faster as I don't "waste" as much time in Wents!
Thanks all for your anticipated help. I know that a lot of the answers I am seeking may just not be available yet, but I know some of you have been following these changes since they were announced, and I had been too busy with other issues to really notice it lately - so here's hoping.
Thanks again. -
I'm asking this here not because I think its the right forum, but because my search-fu is weak and I haven't been able to find the answer in the appropriate discussion threads.
I've built a decent sized personal SG base over the years, and was thinking of going with the Free to Play model when Issue 21 goes live, mostly because I have been extremely casual on here (maybe once a month). My most recent year long subscription expires in about a week, and I was looking forward to using the F2P model, paying for extra features as I needed them, until I noticed that F2P players won't have access to SGs. What happens to SGs that are solely owed and staffed by, soon to be, F2P players?
Has anyone seen this answered, or even speculated upon? -
Any chance the link to that guide is on the Closed Beta forums or something? When I try to go to it, I get refused access due to insufficient permissions. Odd that.
I love Zombie Man's other guides, and would love to give that a read. My search ability on the forums didn't turn up anything by him on the topic though. -
OK, so I dusted off one of my 50s this weekend, and IO'd him out the wazzoo, so he's ready to roll - I had actually forgotten how much fun Dark / Dark tanking was!
But now I am ready to look into getting him into the Incarnate system, but have no idea how to get started. The basic posting doesn't really cover the "how-to" part, and the paragonwiki is good, but is focused on the end result, not the getting there part.
So... how does one get started on this route? Particularly if you don't have the time to run a lot of TFs - I think I have done maybe ten TFs in my five years here. -
Quote:Oh I know, one of my very good friends used to be on the team. And the Dev and GM teams have done great things for the game and its player base. This is far more of an embarrassment issue than any fear that they wouldn't help. Not the first time it has happened. Oh and they have helped out people before for other stuff like this. Let me tell you a little secret... The Devs actually care about us. Shocking isn't it a MMO where the devs actually give a bleep. Don't hurt to ask. Good luck.
-
Yeah... just too damned sheepish to do that.
"Please GM, will you take pity on me, for I am foolish and clicked too fast."
Just hurts to ask like that. -
I was deleting stacks of random salvage today, and got click happy... I deleted merits.
Is there any way to get them back? It wasn't a ton of them, but it was more than I really wanted to lose. -
I am putting together a targeting setup to help me target those annoying things that need to be taken out first (you know the ones - DE cairns and quartz, Malta Sappers, CoT Sorcerers, Carnie Dark Mistresses, etc), and was going to do it as a popmenu setup.
Someone on another thread noted they had made a /targetcustomnext bind which looked through all the enemies on the list, and grabbed the right one. This could work even better than my original popmenu, as, lets face it, the likelihood of a DE cairn and a Malta Sapper being in the same mob are slim (though not impossible) so a single key press could accomplish what I was thinking of doing.
That said, it would be one rather long bind command, what with about 8-10 enemies in it. Is there a string length maximum for macros or binds? -
Quote:Yeah, not sure what was going wrong with the Sappers.... somehow they were landing hits repeatedly. Died about 4 times in a row to the buggers. Defense was up all the time, and I monitor it with the powers window, so it never dipped. Probably just a string of bad luck, I was due for one.It sounds like you got a bad roll on those sappers. They're generally not a problem for my Shield tankers because, as was mentioned above, they've gotta hit you to sap you.
Of course if they do hit you, you're probably gonna die. So it's always a good idea to waste them as soon as possible.
Psionic attacks are really where I find my Shield/SS main getting hurt. Particularly if I'm not paying attention and there's a Rikti Chief Mentalist or a couple Dark Ring Mistresses hanging out not getting attacked by anyone.
The best strategy for trouble mobs is basically to target them and kill them.So you've got the right idea.
So yes, I am thinking a popmenu with a few menus inside it... should make targeting a lot more fun and a lot easier. -
All good points.
Is there a generic name for the darned Devouring Earth pets they drop (Cairns, Trees, etc)? THose things, especially the cairns, annoy me to no end. Get two of those overlapping, and suddenly you are doing 3 damage on a hit to a Boulder. Painful! -
Here I was, happily soloing my alignment missions to get to villain and back (wanted to unlock the patron pools for my tanker) set at +0/8 (may as well get some tasty XPs while doing the missions after all) and cruising through everything on my Shield / Dark Melee tanker (currently at level 46). Soft-capped to all positions, and just blasting through things.
Then along comes a couple of Malta Sappers, and blammo, one dead tanker sucking carpet. I couldn't get accurate or quick targets on them, due to the huge mob size and that darned cloud the Malta rocket explosions make.
Then I thought about making a macro combined with a popmenu to allow me to instantly target the particular bad guys that cause the most problems. Malta Sappers topped the list for me at that point, but also Carnie Mistresses and a few others came to mind.
What are your "Achilles heel" mobs? I am thinking no more than 6-8 in the popmenu, just to keep it easy to navigate. -
Working like a charm now, thanks for setting me straight. Half-way to Villain now, with Soul Mastery getting closer and closer by the minute!
Now, if only I knew anything about the patron power arcs... been blue side forever, rarely dipping into the deep end of the alignment pool and none of my villains have made it past level 20. -
Well, that certainly explains it. I thought I recalled getting tips whilst I had 5 full circles, but I must have been mistaken.
-
Running my level 45 tanker through the alignment process to get myself a handy patron power pool, and I have hit a roadblock...
I made it to Vigilante and took a trip through Pocket D to the Rogue Isles. Picked up a newspaper there to run a boat load of missions to get tips (hey, may as well get some XP at the same time, right?) but have run four paper missions now (with my diff set to +0/+8) and have not received a single tip.
Heroside, took be about 15 minutes to get four tips. I had three drop in one radio mission!
Is this just a case of bad luck, or am I missing something?
I did run five tip missions this morning (i.e. within the 24 hour period) so I know I can't run anymore tip missions, but I should still be able to accumulate the tips, shouldn't I? -
Whoops! That's SD / Dark (Shield Defense / Dark Melee). My bad, silly typo. (and editing OP to fix that mistake)
So for the End, its shouldn't be too bad with that change in mind. I rarely drain the blue bar, save when I am up against groups using -Def powers that require a more vicious takedown.I also have Dark Consumption down to about 80-90 seconds recharge.
Thanks for the info, though now that you know its not DA, does that change anything?
