That's pretty much the same with me. At the moment I'm still farming to gather the funds for my SS/SD Tanker, who is also sitting at level 42 right now. Overall he should do pretty well, least looks that way on paper. 47% Defenses for Melee/Range/AoE, as well as 47% Resistance for Smash/Lethal.

This is largely why I do not purchase PvP IOs.

So, is it possible to make a DM/Inv with soft capped def, high resists and Perma hasten, dull pain, and Soul Drain? I'm willing to make it "SPENDY" with pvp uniques and sets.

The more people I meet, the more I'm beginning to root for the zombies.

once upon a time? I was buying every single KC enhance in the set for under 10 mill not 4 months ago. Ive been sitting on a 30 mill bid for the trip for a solid month now. And they were selling for that then too, but lately they havent been going for under 60 mill. Redside markets a JOKE!

I have tweaked jshmoe's fab (thanks for that!) build to remove the PVP IO (can't afford it!) and buff up the defense without it so everything is softcapped if you have 1-2 enemies in range ~ 38%. I can think of very few situations where this is not the case. I am a bit worried that this build will have more end issues than jshmoe's, but I'm hoping that with Dark consumption up frequently and conserve power, it will not be an issue. Here's the modded build:

and that's if there are even any for sale at any price. most of the time I check the market, there are zero for sale for the triple at any level. and I am not rich enough yet to post a 50+ million bid on multiple levels.

looking more and more like I will have to farm merits and buy them, at least for the triples.

Thanks for the fab part and guessing maybe it helped

You won't have unplayable end issues if you are teaming or even solo going at a somewhat moderate pace. Dark Consumption will be up enough and you have Conserve Power. But you WILL have end issues if you decide you want to take on AVs and Pylons so I don't recommend that. In fact, I'd be impressed if you could do it because I don't think it'd be possible, without blues anyways.

This is a good tweak to bring it down to a respectable range in influence spending. I found these to powersets together to uncanny survivability and even at these defenses and with the recharge, you'll be quite pleased how little you have to look at your health bar :P

Anyone have a good build for a DM/Inv with just using SO's?

You can certainly get quite close to that. Here's something I rolled up in ~5 minutes, so I guess with more time on your hands you could actually get there.

I managed soft capped S/L def with one enemy in range, perma DP, and Hasten is a few seconds off of perma. Good enough I think. I dont think it would have any endurance worries with Dark Consumption, Conserve Power and Physical Perfection.

Also managed some decent cone AoE through slotted up Shadow Maul and Energy Torrent (nice mules for purple sets as well).

Anybody got the attack chain figured out for my build?

I'm not good at math, and I don't even wanna think about whatever Arcanatime is. Is there some website or program that I can stick some data in and voila, instant optimized attack chain?

hmmm don't have enough recharge on the attacks...
Was thinking maybe SP-Smite-SL-SP-Smite-MG but you need MG coming back at 6.6 seconds and you don't have enough recharge there. Maybe you could pull off slot from PP and put an acc/rech or end/rech on the 6th slot and add a proc on Smite or SP. Not really a DPS guy here but looks like maybe 120 DPS without the changes and maybe you could get that up to 140 with damage procs on both SP and Smiite.

That sounds fine enough for me. Thanks Iggy!

I'm sure I can figure out something to get more Recharge.

Hey I'm back with my DM/Inv. I might make one of my builds a DM/Inv/Pyre, but for now I am looking at tweaking DM/Inv/Body.

I'm not opposed to using Inspirations, but I'd like the character to be as self reliant as possible in cases where I do not have the needed Inspiration. I don't mind that I've given up some damage potential for some toughness. That's actually the direction I'm going towards with this character; really living up to the set name Invulnerability. The build is slightly over the Defense softcap for S/L/F/C/E/N with one foe in Melee. It's too bad that Dull Pain is not perma, but I think this is close enough for me. I am wondering if there is any way to get some more Recharge though.

This is an Issue 19 build, using the modified Mids':

Oh, and I definitely will not be using Shadow Maul. I have intense hatred for that power, and it is only there for the set bonuses.

[Edit] Oops. I moved the five-slotted Aegis from Unyielding into Tough. S/L Resist should be at 71.4% now.

You... you hate Shadow Maul? *cries* There, there, Shadow Maul. Don't listen to the bad Scrapper. I still loves you.

OK, looks like Dull Pain is only down for five seconds. I wouldn't consider it a big deal, though yeah, not ideal. For a survivability focus, I'd probably put one or two Golgi in Siphon Life instead of the Mako and maybe the common heal IO. Or maybe a Golgi and a Touch of the Nictus accuracy/heal. Accuracy in attacks is significantly lower than I'd like. You'll have a hard time hitting a lot of what you'd need to fight in order to be at all challenged. Cytoskeleton instead of Enzyme? You don't like using the trick?

The trouble with trying to add recharge is how dependent on all of your sets you are, with essentially every one already buffing defense or recharge. So unless we're switching for even better sets, it's difficult. I wouldn't do this, but you could trade even more accuracy for recharge by giving up on the Luck of the Gambler sets in Tough Hide and Maneuvers and picking up an extra set of Red Fortune in Invincibility or Tough Hide. Sprinkle in some Enzymes or defense IOs. Still soft capped, but 5% more recharge.

Only five seconds downtime? I could live with that. Thanks for that bit of info!

I'm not terribly interested in Golgi's. I think the Endurance Reduction is good enough in Siphon Life. If only there were a way to get an IO that gave Accuracy/Heal/Recharge/Damage. I would have that and a 42.4% Heal IO.

I am worried about the accuracy. I'd like to get it higher, but I just can't seem to spare any slots for it. The best I could do was one-slotting a Karma 6% ToHit, which is slightly better than four-slotting a Luck of the Gambler. I just checked and the difference between putting in a Cytoskeleton and an Enzyme is a whole 0.1% Defense. The price difference between the two I think is pretty big on the market, and I already have a few Cytoskeletons on hold. To my knowledge (and Mids'), the Enzyme doesn't even boost my Defense Debuff Resist.

Yeah, that doesn't sound appealing at all. I wouldn't do it either. As it is right now, I am at the very lowest I would tolerate for a single person in Melee for Accuracy. Luckily, my Accuracy gets much better when I jump into a pile of enemies. Which happens very often.

Thanks very much for giving the build a look over! I think this means I am very close to a final build. Well, as close to final build as I can get without factoring the first Incarnate level in.

Have you considered a heavily recharge/recovery focused build that utilized shadow meld to take care of your defenses (while also helping fill your psionic hole)?
I think it's at least worth making a build to compare against, unless you absolutely don't want to deal with the cast time of Smeld (or something).

To my knowledge, Shadow Meld cannot be made permanent. I'd rather have consistency with the build rather than spiked survivability. Psionics will be painful, but I have Siphon Life and Dull Pain to counter that.

I took the purples out of my current build and replaced them, with accolades HP should be fine, so I just went for the affordable recharge. I have Soul Storm slotted with the Hold set instead of 5 slots in boxing. Soul Storm replaces Dark Consumption, if you are having really bad end problems you could try a Theft of Essence proc in Siphon Life, which I left open because everyone slots it differently. With capped HP, and around 15 seconds of downtime between capped defense for all types, you are set, I only really use Shadow Meld to take tough alphas though.

I'm not sure if you're suggesting that build for me as an alternative or you'd like some advice as well.

If the former, 15 seconds of mediocre Defense is going to get me killed from the way I play, in less amount of time. That downtime from Shadow Meld is just way too dangerous.

That's why I'm not considering it for my Claws/Regen.

Everyone is gaga over it for /Regen and I'm just not sold on it. I have a hard enough time remembering to hit my heals when I'm slicing and dicing stuff, let alone a defense power that I'd need to hit every 30 seconds.

I would also prefer consistent survivability.

You want consistent survivability on a Regen? Wrong secondary!

To me, getting consistent survivability on a Regen is all about managing your clicks. You can have massive burst survivability, or you can have decent consistent survivability, depending on how you manage them. Shadow Meld just sounds like one more click. We're already dealing with four. What's one more? Just one more tool in the toolbox. Think of it as a poor man's Moment of Glory, as another defensive Build Up, but with faster recharge.

I wouldn't do it on Invulnerability, though. While Regen can easily move survivability around, not so much Invulnerability. You don't want to be uber for 15 seconds and then sucky for 15 seconds. I don't anyway. I can see how it would work for just straight missioning. Use it as an alpha mitigator, by the time it drops so has half the spawn, tough it out for the rest. Wait for recharge, and repeat. Not so good for AVs or pylons or +4 spawns, or that sort of thing. But I'm just guessing, really. I haven't played it. So Stratoman, what HAS your experience been with it? What's it like?
