Help keep me playing

I am pretty quiet, but I've been around since beta. I keep falling away from the game because I find a distinct lack of ties to the game community in general.

So I need a good static group of players who are fun to hang with, maybe even an RP group to keep my interest.

Wait, did I just prostitute myself?

There was no offer of money so technically no.

Or possibly, if you need that much help to stay interested in the game, it's time to move on. I mean, since beta is a loooooong time, dude. Maybe you're burned out on CoAitchVee.

Possible point here. I was starting to get burned out on the game pre-i16 and kinda poking around pending some character concepts that I couldn't implement until power customization. I figured rather than make myself sick of the game I'd find an alternative to keep me busy until i16 was released and then I'd be itching to get back into the game. My idea? World of Warcraft. Played it for a week, realized how much better CoX was and came back just in time for i16 with a fresh appreciation for how much I love the game. I'm not saying go out and start playing WoW, but pick up another MMO or even just a console game for a week or two. There's plenty of free MMO's out there ranging from cartoony to serious. Perfect World, Allods Online, Earth Eternal, Florensia, just pick one, give it a test drive and come back to this game after a bit with a fresh appreciation for it, and maybe even some new ideas.

I went the single player route to keep from burning out: Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age Origins, Batman Arkham Asylum, Half-Life Orange Box - al on special from Steam. Keep 'em on hand for when I start to get burned out.

Another thing is a new AT? Are there any that you haven't tried? I'll be hitting the 5 year mark in June, so I'd tried most of them Hero-side, never really got into the villians. But I finally got one to 50 (my only villian) so now I have the SoA AT and I love it. I made a crab and it brought new life into the game for me.

I have played all the ATs on both sides, and yes the Villain Epic is pretty fun. I have a wife who plays WoW and friends who play WoW. It bores me. From word go. The trouble is...I have a wife. Who plays WoW.

I guess what I am saying is, I love it here. The new stuff is only that much better. It's not interest in the game I lack. (It could be argued I have too much interest in it.) but just that getting involved with folks is more difficult than it seems it should be.

I literally despise WoW, yet I have some great online friends from it. How is that? What am I doing there I am not doing here? Back when bases came out I remember how the community here flared up dramatically. Masses of new players, people interested in doing "cool" things, even if it wasn't "the most ultimate" thing to do, even if some of these people were twerps. (My apologies to the twerps out there.)

So the help I am asking for I guess isn't a SG or friends so much as HOW do you get involved with folks on a day-to-day basis? I log in, and no one is around. I put myself on LFG, no invites (on any AT/powerset), and rarely do I see much going on RP wise beyond people standing around posing and holding costume contests. (not complaining, merely stating my experience)

What do you guys think I am missing? A chat channel? An online forum? the proper bribes? What single element puts you touch with new people and keeps them in touch the most?

I'm sorta curious 'when' you're logging in. Everytime I log in, there's people all over the place on Virtue. Mind you, I don't much play past 130am PST or before 9am.

There are a few static teams forming, something else to consider is hashing out a theme and forming your own static team. Or shooting for some other dedicated folks who play frequently/regularly to group with.

Ahhh, see that's a different story all together then. I had the same issue for a long while until I discovered (and subsequently wondered how I survived so many years without and had managed to not know of) global channels. Namely on Virtue I joined VU2010, which is a general community channel with chat, team requests, all kinds of discussion. It's the best for social interaction seems like. Then I also joined Virtue LFG Alpha (name speaks for itself), Virtue Badges (ditto), and Virtue TFs 2010 (and again). I keep a window open with each channel in a tab by itself so it's easy to follow all of them and note when there are new messages in a channel.

I instantly gained a social outlet, a very easy and responsive place to look for teams and TFs, and even a spot to ask for help on badges. Added perk: two of those channels have the raid schedules for hami/motherships in their MotD so I always have it handy in case I forget. I've had no problem finding teams ever since and I get a nice little social circle to interact with. That alone made the game seem immensely more alive than I'd ever seen it be in all my time playing. Don't know if you've joined any of them, but if not, swing by the global channels sticky at the top of the topic list and you'll find a list of the most popular and heavily populated channels. Guaranteed to help if you don't have them set up already.

I thought it might be something like that. I'll check them out then and see if that adds the requisite pepper spice to my gaming experience.

No, I think this thread and your plight (For lack of a better word) are understandable.
My personal playing time seems to be way too limited for me to even try and reach out currently...

I hope the global channels help you find what you're looking for.

It is tough sometimes. Some of the best RPers and players may be tucked away in some quiet bubble having the most fun of their lives... Finding groups to join in with for your mutual styles of play can be a difficult task, at times.

Posting this thread, hopefully, was the first step to you succeeding!

Even though my RP SG has dwindled in size over the past several months, it still has some great players and we're all about the RP (Well, combined with just having fun).
The Paragon Universe
We are, however, -by no stretch of the imagination- "big".
To a new member, we might currently even seem almost inactive. This will change eventually.
We'll be pulling things together and reforming, hopefully, very soon.
The cool thing is... all of our members are the leaders and what makes us what we are.
A bunch of mature, friendly, fun-loving RPers in a comicbook mmorpg.
If you're possibly interested in joining us, visit the website and/or join the Paragon Universe channel (It's an OOC meet up, talk arrange stuff, etc channel) and see if anything sticks, any friendships formed, etc.

Anyways, good luck!

Thank you for understanding Electric, that's precisely been my problem. I lurk alot and my play time has always been a bit sporadic. The few friends I made way back when I don't know their whereabouts.

Like you said, tucked-away in tiny corners. That's what bothers me I think. Virtue has (as far as I know) always been the home of the RPers, but upon my return recently they seem to be...invisible? Maybe I will wait until someone starts something that tickles my fancy and monitor the boards awhile, get started on the basement level for once.

Thank you for the help everyone. I will investigate everything you've told me, see if I can find some answers. If anyone else has some ideas feel free to let me know.

I recently formed a static group, well, it's been going for about 2 months now, meet once a week. There are messages in Virtue for forming static groups, keep your eyes open. The group I have is 8 players and it's a lot of fun. Maybe you could go that route. We RP and the whole 9, a very good time.
