WP/Fire S/L Softcap build help

Atago

Posted

My goal was to improve my gf's current WP/Fire Tanker by soft-capping to S/L and getting some decent +HP, +Regen and +Rech while avoiding purple/PvP sets. Hopefully I didn't sacrifice her offense too much. Any feedback and/or advice is appreciated. Thank you.

The only things I see that are departures from my WP/Fire build plan is the following.

I 5-slotted all my single target attacks (4 Kinetics +1 Crushing Impact ACC/DMG) to preserve their offensive power.

I took Hasten instead of buildup and only put 3 slots into it.

And instead of 6-slotting Gaussians, you might consider working Taunt into the build and either 6-slotting Perfect Zinger or 4-5 slotting Mocking Beratement.

You could go 4 pieces of Thunderstrike in Fireblast to get more E/N defense and have 1 more slot to slide somewhere.

Thanks Biospark. Your comments give me something to think about.

I have been toying with an alternate build that has hasten and taunt but loses tough and weave and some recharge.

I agree with Biospark about the Kinetic Combat sets; without additional slotting your attacks are underslotted for accuracy and damage. I'd put a fifth slot in FS, Incinerate, and GFS at the very least. It's also kind of baffling that you'd take Boxing so early when you're not getting Tough until level 30. I'd take FS at at level 6 instead and delay Boxing until right before Tough.

I also think it's a cause for concern that your regen powers--which are one of the primary means of damage mitigation for a WP character--are all underslotted for Heal. Fast Healing in particular is woefully underslotted, but I'd also try to get RttC and HPT to the ED cap for Heal, and slot some additional resist enhancement in HPT. Honestly, I think fully slotting your basic WP powers is much more important than sacrificing WP's strengths (and your offensive capability) to try to reach the soft-cap for defense.

I also agree with Biospark about the Gaussian's set. It's a great choice for positional defense, but for typed defense you're spending a lot of slots for relatively small return. I think a better choice would be to slot it with 2 Rectified Reticle + 1 recharge common for the S/L defense bonus, which would free up several slots. But replacing it with Taunt slotted with Mocking Beratement or Perfect Zinger would also be a good choice.

Here is my FM/WP scrapper with capped S/L and E/N. Should be simular to what your trying to do. And yea, you've gotta 6-slot those attacks your using KC's in, they are painfully underslotted if you don't.

Thanks for the feedback all. I appreciate the good advice about the Kinetic Combats and the Gaussian sets.

Finduilas good points about the heal/regen powers. Playing with the numbers in Mid's HD, I saw little gained by committing more slots to those particular powers mentioned. As is, the build I posted for feedback was close to the HP cap(close enough); the regen of +HP/sec would only get marginally better with extra slots. The trade off was not worth it if soft capping to S/L would significantly increase the toon's survivability more so than an extra +1 or +2 HP/sec. You did get me thinking about going with a Regen oriented build. I recall seeing a build that was able to get in the 100+ +HP/sec by focusing purely on +regen IO sets. IMHO and experience soft capped vs. regen in a high burst damage situation=soft capped wins.

"Hey! Hey! Wisky Jack! Meet me down by the railroad tracks."

Thanks for sharing your build WJ. Thats a nice scrapper build there. I may borrow some of that and roll a DM/WP scrapper.

Thanks again everyone. Great feedback.

Although I am still IO-ing out my Tanker, I tend to agree with you regarding the Regen.
I monitor my regen and it hovers between 60hps and 80hps in most fights (small radius )
and I have seen in spike to 90+ hp/sec. But the amount of increased survivability I saw once I put in 5 sets of Smashing Haymaker on top of this regen is very nice and seemingly more mitigation. Once those are converted to Kinetic Combats (before 2012 hopefully), I should be rock solid unless taking on AVs or GMs that can hit for considerable amounts of damage in one shot.

That being said, I am taking no chances and my final IO'd build will have 95% bonus to heal in Fast Healing, Rise to the Challenge, High Pain Tolerance AND Health just to make sure.
AND, it will not take a significant number of slots to reach that number. 2 Numina's plus 1 Generic Heal IO get you to the cap and then a +regen set bonus to boot.

Salty, not sure if you're aware of this or not, but just in case - half of Stealth's defense suppresses. So it grants 2.5% def in combat and an additional 2.5% when in combat (5% total). Since you'll be in combat (don't ask me how +def outside of combat is useful, I don't know either) you have to cut 3.604% (2.5 * 1.4416) def from all types/positions.

So your build, instead of being at 45.2% def to s/l will be at 41.596% instead.

Good catch Sarrate. I'll have to check the in-game numbers later today. I thought Mid's was posting the suppressed numbers, but as I toggle Stealth on and off it looks like it is indeed giving me the unsuppressed defense value. That stinks!

Thank you for pointing that out. I'll see if I can come up with the last ~3.5% +Def. It may be tougher getting her to part with stealth if necessary. lol Thanks again.

This is a Build a made some Weeks ago. It's similar to your first Build. It comes with Taunt+BU but without Hasten. I don't know how it performs IG, cause i stopped playing the Toon at lvl 38.

You are picking your status toggle at lvl 49? You might want to respec if that's the way you built. You might even start playing your tank again as it would be much more fun

This is a lvl 50 Respec-Build, but it shouldn't be a Problem to change the order of the Powers if you like. I think the most Players use levelling Builds and later on Respec Builds, so do i.

With the prevalence of exemplaring for Ouro, TFs and SG AE missions, I always take into careful consideration when I pick my powers, especially key ones like the mez toggle.

I don't use IOs over level 40 for this reason. At level 37, my characters perform exactly as well as they do at level 50. e.g. If the build softcaps, it will be softcapped at 37, meaning weave/whatever necessary will be taken by level 41, usually much before.

Where to now?

ok, sorry for the confusion. Even so I'd have to agree with Dechs on the importance of level choice even in a respec. Granted you may yourself decide to never exemp down, but when handing out example builds to people you may want to mention the fine print to avoid confusion.

I know you were just trying to help now, so that's cool

Respec builds are great, especially if you're swapping out a power for one that will be more useful in the upper levels.

However, I've never seen the point in changing the power selection order in a respec from what was used for leveling any more than absolutely necessary. There's no advantage to, for example, taking your mez protection at level 49 in a respec build, but there's potentially a very significant disadvantage if you ever decide to exemp.

I have to admit that Exemp/Flashback is a Point i have to more Attention on. ATM i only have one active lvl50 Char, and i use him just for Farming. Maybe that's the Point why i forgot to consider the importance of Flashback/Exemp.

Normally i start with a Char and sometimes take Powers i don't need later on. For example more Attackpowers to have a solid Attackchain till my Recharge is better. At about lvl27-32 i switch to the second Build and begin to use IO-Sets. If it's possible i softcap the Toon at this lvl with the help of Mako's, Scirocco's, Oblit's aso. Then btw. lvl 42-50, when i have Room to take the Fighting Pool f.E. and have more Slots i respec the Powers and IO-Sets out that i don't need anymore. The more expensive lvl30-35 IO-Sets i use then for other Chars and replace them with higher lvl Sets which give me more ACC/Rech/DMG etc. if possible.
