Dark Control

I put this together using existing powers, what I think a Dark Control set would look like. It's a mix of powers from Dark Blast, Dark Miasma, Dark Armor, & Dark Melee. I don't know if Dark Servant would be the pet, but I just threw it in their since no other dark pet exists.


1. Midnight Grasp - Ranged, Moderate DMG(Negative), Foe Immobilize, -To Hit
2. Touch of Fear - Fear, Foe -To Hit
3. Tenebrous Tentacles - Ranged (Cone), Moderate DMG(Negative/Smash), Foe Immobilize, -To Hit
4. Tar Patch - Ranged (Location AoE), Target -Speed, -Res, -Fly
5. Death Shroud - Toggle: PBAoE Minor DoT(Negative)
6. Dark Pit - Ranged (Targeted AoE), Foe Disorient
7. Fearsome Stare - Ranged (Cone), Foe Fear, -To Hit
8. Torrent - Ranged (Cone), Minor DMG(Smashing), Foe -To Hit, Knockback
9. Dark Servant - Summon Dark Servant: Ranged Debuff Special

Ehhh... Something like this would make it absolutely certain that Controllers will never get Dark Miasma as a secondary. And that's terrible.

Needs a bit more thought in that general direction.

its not a bad idea, but like blitz said, it would eliminate the dark miasma set for them

i think this is one of the reasons controllers/doms dont have a dark control set

however, something that might be slightly easier to create would be a dark assault set for dominators (since assault sets are mostly attacks it would be mostly dark blast powers)

Well, it's pretty much a given that four powers in a controller primary will be the single target and AoE holds/immobs, right? So that's four powers you don't have to put a whole lot of thought into. Instead of tentacles and such, though, I'd probably go with black, sticky web effects.

I'd like to see a more unique toggle aura for the set. Like, perhaps, one that inflicts a decent to-hit debuff with a percentage chance of inflicting a damage debuff and/or healing the user a small amount.

A targetted friendly toggle that gives the target a PBAoE disorient effect similar to that in Dark Armor could work.

A patch that slows and reduces regen - sapping life energy, as it were - perhaps even slightly buffing the regen of friendlies in the effect.

An AoE summon-shadowy-pets-from-corpses power might be neat. They'd be relatively short-lived pets, but you could summon a fair amount if you had the bodies handy. Or perhaps it would work on living enemies, summoning a shadow for each enemy it hit, effectively having them fight their own shadows.

And then there'd be an actual pet power, of course. Hopefully something different than the Dark Servant. Perhaps more in line with those dark blue shadow enemies in the game.

Hmm. Here's my (somewhat inexpert) take on it;

Main focus; Mez, same as any controller set, and some added -ToHit, along with a few general crippling effects. Stuff to bring the enemy mobs below par. *shrug*

If Dark Control happens it needs to START with the assumption that whatever set gets Dark Control will get Dark Miasma proliferated to controllers. Thus, none of Dark Miasma's powers can be in Dark Control.


That said, Tenebrous Tentacles and Dark Pit should both be in it (with tentacles given a damage drop and a boost in immobilization power). So let's see, what's my take on this...

Standard Controller moves:
Immobilize (tentacles at range)
Hold (Something to stack nicely with Petrifying Gaze)
AoE Immobilize (Modded Tenebrous Tentacles)
Pet (Something that focuses on Fear, rather than Dark Miasma's To-Hit-Debuff and Healing)

Dark Pit fits great as an AoE mez.

As for the others, there is one suggestion I'd have for Dark... Something that heals. ALL the Dark sets have a healing power, including Blast, Melee, and Necromancy. A Dark set without a healing power would just be downright strange.

I'd also suggest a single-target power that reduces to-hit-debuff resistance by a sizable amount, allowing the secondary effects to have a noticible effect on AVs.

Touch of Fear
Midnight Grasp (Improved to a Hold over an Immobilize)
Cloak of Fear
Siphon Life
Shadow Punch
Gloom

I don't think reusing powers would be a good Idea, for Dark Control to work, you have to create new powers sets like they doing with Electric Control, coming out for GR. They not using to many old ones and there pets are Pretty Sweet.

i was thinking, if they did decide to make a dark control, you just KNOW that they will most likely throw black hole in there (and it will be the 1 barely used power similar to how gravity is now with dimension shift)
