ELEC/SD - Undecided on build direction!
Before you decide to make do with not hitting the softcap you really should read this:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=185167 Just so you know the real-world difference between 40% and 45% defense. |
That extra 3% defense is the difference between me jumping into a large group of Cims and sometimes faceplanting, and them hardly being able to scratch me period. Their -defense can be a killer.
Even at that, when I run the wall or an ITF they can sometimes drop my defense a bit. Having a cushion above 45% isn't necessarily a bad idea. ^_^
(Now working on my elec/shield scrapper, thanks for all of the builds to look at!)

The five percent is big, yes but as far as elec shields goes you can have maybe a 1-3% differentiation from he softcap depending on how much your global recharge is, because the more you can use SC and LR the more damage mitigation you have from knockdowns ( I also use fireball with a Ragnarok proc in it for even more knockdown) the more you can juggle your enemies the less they'll be hitting you anyways.
In the Grand scheme of things people don't know when to shut up.
Elprede- 50 Blaster Ice/elec
Flaron Llothren- 50 Tank Ice/SS
Technic Flame- 50 Controller Fire/kin
Lance Indalen- Brute 50 Em/elec
Heart widow- Widow 50
Just curious, does the 7.5% recharge gained from the Basilisk gaze set count as a 5th when combined with lotg recharges or can you slot 5 of them and still get the recharge from the Basilisk set? Just wondering if this is a same rule applied as gaining the 5% bonus from Obliteration sets and a melee set like crushing impact?
The rule of 5 does not just apply to the number, it applies to the entire description of the bonus.
So no, the Basilisk does not add to the rule of 5 for the LotG.
Basically the LotG is a stand alone for that bonus description.
As far as the Oblit and Crush Impact, they read the same, so they do count to the same rule of 5.
This thread is full of insight and examples. I'm also glad that someone pointed out the difference between 40% and 45% defense. I learned this when trying to build my Night Widow into a Rikti pylon soloer.
I do hope this discussion picks up again once Castle's alleged nerf of the Blessing of the Zephyr set kicks in. I'd like to see some non-purple alternatives for soft-capping Melee, Ranged and AoE defense without the use of purple sets or the two BotZ sets. Can it be done?
EDIT:
I have come across threads in the past that used no purple sets (although there were five LotG +recharges, a Miracle +recovery and the Numina unique) that were soft-capped on Melee, Range and AoE as well as having similar damage and recharge times. All I did was write down the defense, recharge and damage numbers but didn't save the data chunk. <sigh>
Well I planned an elec/shield/blaze build for farming with capped melee and ranged, lots of +HP and recovery, almost permahasten (95% rech), with no purples, PVP or BoTZs. Not very good to play below 50 (I'll surely not level him this way, haven't rolled the toon yet because I'm considering farming with bosses so a FM/SD might be better), you could make the build more team friendly by switching L. Clap with Chain Induction (and put Mako's on CI to keep the same range def) but you'd lose 6.25% recharge from Stupefy (a set with incredible bonuses). A good idea for general teaming might be slotting Tough but then you'd sacrifice another 7.5% rech from the Char slotting.

Before I get there, does anyone have any comments?
Also, I just can't get worked up about not hitting 45%. For me 40% is good enough. An extra 5% chance to hit me, come on, give them a chance, lol.
