Is it possible to softcap a DP/Psi blaster?

I've been toying with the idea of trying to re-work my Blaster as close to 'DP/SR' as I could, and here's what I got so far. Any hints people have, or glaring errors that can be pointed out would be majorly appreciated =]

I tried to softcap my dp/mm to ranged and after i made the build i didn't like what I had to take /give up to get close(think it only came to like 40ish and barely any recharge) so i softcapped to s/l instead and got 90 rech instead. works out pretty well.


Positron's i13 letter: We are trying to make PvP more accessible to new players, while giving experienced PvP'ers the advantage that comes with formulating tactics around the new systems we're putting in place. PvP from now on will be on our priority list. If something isn't working out, we'll be in there tweaking it and making it work, for the entire future of the product, not just Issue 13.

Only when the proc goes off. Shouldn't be too big a deal though, since if you're hitting something with Surveillance you're about to hit it with something a lot harder.

Trying to softcap all positionals is going to be REALLY hard...probably impossible as far as I can tell. The build I came up with for my DP/MM has softcap Smashing and Lethal defence, 56.3% Recharage (not counting Hasten obviously), 45% Global Accuracy bonus, and 9% damage bonus.
I figure since we have powers like Hail of Bullets, Drain Psyche, and Psychic Shockwave we will be in melee range a fair bit of time, and IMHO S/L defence trumps Melee defence any time of the day. And I think many others can testify that having soft capped S/L on a blaster can keep you alive very well against many types of mobs. Of course, as you know, you'd still have problem of cascading defences if you get hit with a high defence debuff attack. So keeping a couple purples handy for those cases is probably a good idea.

And honestly, I'm toying with the idea of dropping the Fitness pool in favor of other stuff, but not sure about that yet. Since the downtime of Drain Psyche is anywhere between 7 and 17 seconds, depending on when does Hasten go out during the recharge.Anyhoo:

You're probably going to atleast need the five 3 piece blessing sets in multiple travel powers.

I usually just go for ranged defense myself and call it even as capping ranged defense is so much easier and I just hover when enemies try to get near me. Yeah ranged defense wont help you very much with enemies like nemesis but then again defense is pretty pointless to have at all against nemesis and the bs accuracy they seem to have even without vengeance.

DP is actually the first blaster where I have decided I'd rather have the perm hasten over defense.

Personally, I think DP is very well off with moderate amounts of recharge (Like 50-60) mainly due to the animations. I find the defence much more worth it since Hail of Bullets forces you into melee range. And with Mental Manipulation being your secondary, you have two more melee range powers that you probably WILL take, and 2 "optional" ones in Mind Probe and Telekenitic Thrust (which, IMO, is a great panic button when a boss closes in on you). That's the main reason I opted for caped S/L. Since it will keep me safe from a lot of attacks, from all positions. I tried to work in as much damage bonuses as possible, but it's kinda hard with the choices of powers available. And with 50% Recharge, HoB will be coming up often enough. The proc in Bullet Rain helps, too. And while HoB is down, Empty Clips and Psychic Scream from the distance will do decent damage, too. But, YMMV.

No Stamina, however with Drain Psyche up every 36 of 30 seconds with hasten and 46 of 30 seconds for the 13 seconds hasten is down end shouldn't be a huge issue.

Are you sure about that? It's my understanding that the confuse procs cancel the "do not notify" on Confuse and Deceive even when the procs don't fire; does Surveillance work differently with regard to procs and notification?

I agree with a post above about going melee def and s&l defense. I went /fire so im in melee all the time. I went with Cold Epic and the Frozen Armor gives very good melee and s&l defense. I think i'm sitting at 33% s&l and like 26% melee atm.

My attack chain is Rain (with chem for slight debuff)> Flashfreeze> B.U.> HoB> FSC> and then Combustion or Rain to clean them up.
