Shield Defense inflames my Altitis
I actually have a lowbie SD/DM tanker. Level 11 or so. Maybe I'll re-make her as DM/SD. I already have plenty of tankers for times when I want to tank.
Yeah I just need to make 8 new scrappers (Fire/SD, Fire/SR, DM/SR, SM/SD, Elec/SD, MA/SR, MA/SD, Broadsword/SD) and I'll be all set.

But a pure damage Fire/Shield Scrapper is calling to me. I also don't have any high-end damage Scrappers, so there's that. Right now, the Scrapper is winning. Scrappers usually win in my brain.

I meant DM/SD.
I think I'll try to show a little willpower and keep my SD/DM as a Tanker. I would like to have a Shield Defense Tanker on each of my accounts. I dunno. My active character I'm working on now is Dual Blades / SR anyway. So I'll just enjoy that for a while. But after that, either Elec/Shield or Fire/Shield or both. I should really leave the other stuff alone for now.
The weird thing is that I'm a controller at heart, but controlling got me into tanking, and my love for punching/slashing things in the face as a tank has got me into scrappers recently. But I have to say scrappers are pretty entertaining. Its great for me too coming from the controller background because I'm used to low damage. That lets me enjoy low recharge scrappers simply because they still crush my controllers in terms of damage. Being able to enjoy low recharge builds and not caring about hp and regen and whatnot, that really keeps my costs down. Keeping costs down is important for an altaholic.

Well, I was kinda regretting not taking Fire melee on my BS/SD Scrapper, but, having seen just how many there are out there already, I'm kinda glad I went for BS. (Not saying there aren't an equal number of BS/SD out there) The Gladius coupled with a round sield looks awesome on my toon, really enjoying getting stuck in when previously I preferred ranged combat!
Working on SD/SS tanker myself. Looking at Rage double stacked with max out AAO... ohhhh just can't wait. 22 more levels to go. A word of caution... Be sure to see a doctor for any heart problems before rolling a fire/sd/fire ...
I know its unpopular, but I just don't want to take the Fire epic. It'd be cool, but I actually want to take most of my primary and secondary, AND I want super speed, stamina, Tough, Weave and Combat Jumping.
So there isnt any room for the fire epic at all unless I drop Grant Cover and Fire Breath and maybe one other attacks from the primary.
So I'm just planning on Fire/SD/(none). I know I'm crazy. I still expect elation.

Actually I didnt take the fire epic on mines either and fine without it,everything dies fast anyways.

I'm waiting for brutes to come blue side and roll SS/shield. I haven't done either and I've got 3 50s and working on a Fire/kin willing to help fund it.

As to the OP...yes. I have a 50 Fire/SR IO'd to the teeth, and after rolling a DM/SD, sitting at 39, I wish I had made a Fire/Shield. I will likely re-roll her once my DM/SD is finished.
I've got my fingers crossed that GR will allow rogue Heroes/Villains to "swap" Epics; i.e., Scrappers can choose Patrons, Brutes can choose Epics. It makes 0 sense thematically to not allow this option, but I can see balance concerns.
If they do let us, then I definitely want to check out a SS/SD/Body Brute.
I can't bring myself to take any secondary other than shield on a scrapper. Luckily, I can't bring myself to make scrappers due to corruptors, so it's a moot point

Ohhhhh and 29% defense with just cj and the shields toggles on is nice, though it takes me an hour to kill an ant... price I gotta pay I guess

Bah! I hate it when a name I manage to get implies one of the powers I decided not to take due to min-maxing.
I got Dragon Disciple, and I'm gonna run with it, but I'm not planning to take Breath of Fire on my Fire/SD. Irritating. Maybe I'll make a Fire/SR named Dragon Disciple since its so much easier to soft cap. I could take Breath of Fire as a thematic choice. Then I could also make a Fire/SD and make it something else entirely.
Nah. And again, BAH!

All,
OK sorry to keep posting stuff in here, but I have a few questions related to my Fire/SD temptations and frustrations, so I'm just going to use this thread for now.
I created a Fire/SD scrapper, and I was all happy. Until I realized that the name I managed to snag, Dragon Disciple, kinda "requires" that I have Breath of Fire in my build. I mentioned that in my previous post. With some plinking around in Mids I made a character that I have some questions about.
(1) I managed to get a Fire/SD character with only 44% melee defense, but 47% to ranged and 46% to AOE. However, it does allow me to have the various concept attacks I feel obligated to have. Are those numbers sufficient, considering I have Grant Cover and all the other stuff in my build that can at least sorta keep my defense debuff resistance up?
(2) Is it sufficient to have these attacks (3 single, 4 AOE)? Fire Sword, Greater Fire Sword, Fire Blast, Breath of Fire, Fire Sword Circle, Shield Charge, Fireball? I do realize exemplaring will suck, but I'll probably have a leveling build and an endgame build, and keep both so I can use the leveling build to exemplar.
(3) Is it OK to have True Grit unslotted except for my Steadfast res/def? I just wasnt able to come up with slots.
I'll post the build here for your perusal. Keep in mind that this isnt the order I'll take the powers. They are just wherever I put them.
Thanks!
Lewis

Mids doesn't seem to take into account the def buff for Phalanx fighting. If you got these numbers in Mids you actually need to add 3.75% (from memory) to all positions.
OOPS just checked and it does, sure it never used to !
When designing my DM/Shields I was working on the fact that Phalanx fighting def buff wasn't in Mids, on the basis that it is Shields is incredibly hard to softcap.
I'm getting numbers similar to Uni and in order to do that I need to drop the Hami's used for DDR.
I'm seen various people saying that their /Shield has soft cap to all positions and DDR capped and others quoting capped Def and perma Hasten.
Based on what I can get out of Mids soft capping is hard enough let alone DDR or having room for LoTG +Recharge etc.
Has anyone got a build with capped def and DDR with Hamis?
