Where was the first City of Heroes Meet & Greet?

The D&B event in Austin was more CoH, but there was a good bit of Tabula Rasa stuff thrown in. Garriott attended in a uniform he had made. For me, this was where I met my live-event friends from Justice.

A bit later was the first specifically CoH event at the D&B in Milpitas. Then a year after that was the first Hero-Con, then, of course, the second in October.

Good times. If not for that D&B event in Austin, I probably wouldn't have ended up going to the Milpitas event nor to Hero-Con. Now, it's something I look forward to each year.

For the events I've been to, CyberJocks was first (all NCSoft games represented, but mostly for the launch of Auto Assault). I spoke to Gilgamesh at that event, and he had just started work on a new project called Tabula Rasa. I met Moggie, MissInformed, Neutra, vestansan, Lady Miri, Texas Titan, Arctic Sun, and CuppaJo.

The event at D&B in Austin was the following year, and was again for all NCSoft games, but specifically getting ready for the Tabula Rasa launch. I met infallible, Manoa, Teh Boyfriend, Mad Malkavian, several Virtue players (from our after hours/before hours get togethers), one of Neutra's friends whose name escapes me, and of course Ex Libris. I can't recall if Lighthouse was in attendance or not, but I'm thinking not.

After that was the M&G at the D&B in Milipitas where I got to meet Red Gren, Thor's Assassin and Sassy, Diamond Dragoon, Blinding Aura and his dad, Abraxxus, Azrhiaz, Peep, Mr. Frog, Marcian, RoboBug, Kitten of Chaos, Dirtwolf, Pantsy, and so many other great players. Forgive me for any names I've left out. I also got to meet pohsyb, BackAlleyBrawler, Positron, Manticore, WarWitch, David Nakayama, Castle, Ghost Falcon, Brian Clayton, Ross (Evil Eye Marketing Guy) Borden, Lighthouse and JLove among others. Marcian, I seem to remember something about Manoa leaving at one point in the afternoon before the M&G to go pick you up at a train station or something similar. She'd remember better than I do. As for that night, I have no idea since the Assistant Manager of DOOOOOOOOM at the hotel scattered us to the winds and threatened to evict us all if any more noise complaints came in.

Then came the two HeroCon events.

As for the event Positron mentioned, I recall hearing about it briefly long ago, before any of the Austin events. Something in my brain keeps trying to say it was right before or right after the game launched, but I can't be certain. Only the attendees could tell us for sure. For some reason I'm thinking it was in Orange County, but again, I can't be certain.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

As I recall, you took Amtrak there and back and stayed in Grazel's room the night of the event.

There was a NCSoft booth and and a general NCSoft M&G in Indianapolis during GenCon 2007. It's not the one Marcian's asking about (it was during the same year), but felt it was worth pointing out.

Yes, I believe you did.

I've been around since Beta, and I'm pretty sure the Austin Cyberjocks was the first one. I remember playing the CoH TCG with Alexa (?) and Awry, and meeting Cuppa, Jesse Scoble, and others.

Austin CyberJocks was the first Meet & Greet. It was really supposed to be for Auto Assault but it seems the COH community came out in droves to the point where they ran out of "tickets" and just let everyone in.
I had so much fun meeting all these folks that I invited as many of them as I could find to do it again a month later at the Dave and Buster's here in Austin. We had a whopping 8 people show up.
I still try to organize COH-themed lunches about once a month and we have a solid core of locals who attend. If you happen to be in the area and want to come along please let me know and I'll add you to the list. Most recently we had a Rock Band party for Marti Gras.

Then I suppose Howie's was a close 2nd M&G. I remember seeing Matt & Cuppa there, along with DJ Jester from W00t Radio. Pan was there plugging Auto Assault, and Richard Garriot was also there plugging Tabula Rasa. Wow, to think of what's happened since then in the MMO world

Come on if you did not know that game designers and gamers and Super Heroes did not live on Energy Drinks, you sir/madam are not a true gamer.

That one was at Howies Game shop in Orange Co. California. And if I remeber correctly it was after E3 in Los Angeles. I remember that you were there Posi and also Cuppa and DJ Jester from W00T Radio.

From looking at the date stamp on the picture in the link Nylonus gave us (May 14, 2006), along with a bit of search-fu using information in this thread, it seems that the event at Howie's Game Shack (May 13, 2006) in Orange Co. was after the Cyberjocks event in Austin (Feb. 23, 2006).

Wasn't that in OC?

I remember because I found a great flight deal at the last minute for 99 bucks. Flew from Tucson to LAX, had an SG mate that I never met before picked me up and we drove to the meet and greet.

After the gaming, they drove me back to LAX where I sat up all night until my flight the next morning.

It was all awesome.
