Alpha's Lab

CR's idea has potential. If you did go that way, perhaps put other objects on the wall (eg. claws not in use, or perhaps those tech-stalactites on the side) in the same colour to signify "stuff that isn't part of his uniform". Again, just disposable ideas.

Happy with this? Yes. Everything came together (as I had a suspiscion it might) at the shadow and highlights stage. I ended up leaving the background almost blank, because Alpha is meant to be the focus of attention (as he should be )

Hopefully this won't be the last CoH outing for me art wise. Will need to see what else I can come up with. Or if people have a go at drawing the little virus themselves...that'll be the day heh heh

Very nice, great to see this evolve... love the blue almost florescent light in this.

Changed the background texture (i.e. added one), and changed the lighting on the background. Significant improvement, I thing. Is now as complete as it's going to get

I really like how far you took this piece; the last stage punched everything right up.

A few things that could be addressed for future pieces: there's a lack of a feeling of weight. I don't know if maybe the character is supported from behind, but none of the tubes/wires look like they're being pulled down at all. Overall, the composition is static. Its a challenge to make an interesting composition when the subject is dead center. Its not impossible, but easier to avoid centering your subject until you're well-versed in other ways to add movement. Also, try to think of one real center of interest. There are a few things going on in this piece, but what do YOU want us to really look at?

Yeah, in hindsight I should have spent more time getting the weighting right. Thats something I seem to struggle with a bit in general. I was just desperate to get the idea down on paper and actually finish it before it sat half done, like so much else of my work does.

Alpha was meant to be the dead-center of interest. I think my other problem is ending up, as you said, with static compositions. Even the action shots I try and do tend to come out looking static, somehow... More practice needed, I guess.

The order may well be very random, as I'll simply latch onto whichever character sparks something off and run with it before the little **** can get away.
