Can someone explain how the LRSF is balanced?

I think that may be another very important point. You need people that can play well as part of a TEAM. Which is usually not something the game teaches you or requires, with almost all content being so that you can rush through it with a 'team' that is nothing more than, as someone called it so adequately in another topic, "several people soloing together".

I just want to comment on this...

Coming from a min-maxer, IO set bonuses don't really give an accurate idea of the characters' performance. With IOs, you need some idea of what you're doing in order to get good results, and build design isn't a skill that everyone has. I've seen some pretty terrible IO builds on the forums, and I've also seen an SO-only granite tank handle tower Recluse without support.

So very much this.

I have noticed that this game is all about the driver, not the car you drive. I will take a player who knows what they're doing over a player with a purpled out character that doesn't know how to play it.

It is awesome, however, when you come across someone who knows what they're doing on a high end build.

The TF itself is not super hard at all. It's all about strategy and common sense.. not about min/max'ing.. especially considering we usually run with the "Master of" challenges and wouldn't even have access to Shivans or extra nukes of any kind anyway. And with no deaths.. there is no "vengbait" either.

And yes, I agree with the OP.. the -1 settings on "master of" groups was very cheap. I wish they didn't even count.
Here's how our team felt after an amazingly easy MoSTF:

I want to point out that my character in that pic IG-2112MD (first one on the left) already had the Master of... badge before we did that run. :smirk:

This is definitely true; a friend who used to play CoH was awesome with melee characters. He soloed a humanform Peacebringer to 50, on Invincible past about 30th level, before IOs existed, and regularly ran the tank in our little groups, even if said "tank" was a scrapper.

Then I saw his build; by min-maxer standards, not particularly good, and the only IOs he ever slotted were ones that dropped. But he knew exactly what powers and what slotting worked for him, which were high priority foes to take down for his survival, etc.

Tying back to the OP, the flip side of this, well meaning players, perhaps even long time players, who just aren't very good can sink a tough TF/SF like the LRSF. Another friend whos been playing since beta was never able to solo his energy/energy blaster above about 35th level even on Heroic without dying a lot in every mission, and thats considered one of the better soloing blaster sets.

And there may not be any way to tell how many of the former and how many of the latter players you have till the end fight. . .

Random call-out people:
Widow VEAT
Fire/Electric Brute
SS/Electric Brute -> Went afk just before we rushed the FP. Never came back for the fight.
Mind/Psi Dominator -> Crashed on loading 2nd or 3rd mission, don't remember. Never came back.

So, we had one Shivan, 2 Vengeances stacked on everyone but the Widow's vengbait corpse, and no WB nukes. Oh yeah, there was a Snowbeast, too. Had two deaths, one of the Cold/Fire Corruptors was grilled by a lucky nuke and the participating Brute got nailed by Manticore's Telegank with Statesman chasing them, too.

We didn't exactly have an ideal team and we completely, utterly rolled the Phalanx with 6 people. I guess the Snowbeast is what made all the difference...

IT'S IMPOSSIBLE!1!1!!!eleven!1!

*One more thing of amusement: Actually held and killed Valkyrie through MoG after she rezzed. Soul Storm hold animation is greatly amusing.
Lots of stacked defense
Lots of ranged damage output
Ranged heal
4 of you knew eachother

Seems pretty close to an ideal team if you ask me
