post 13 pvp

Well, suffice it to say, I've been out of the PvP loop for a very long time (since 13 dropped essentially). With the free transfers going on, I thought of brushing off a toon or two and join a few friends over on Freedom (probably in RV) to see if I can get any enjoyment out of it. To my knowledge, the new need-to-know is: (and please correct me if I'm wrong)

damage is based on animation time
ranged aoe powers are useless
defense was great, but then nerfed back to suckdom
buffs are pretty much useless

Questions:
is phase/hibernate out of fashion now that your enemy can phase and keep at you?
is SJ/SS still the norm? or is everyone using fly now?

I have a few toons (spec'ed to pre i13) that I'm thinking of rebuilding and transferring:

fire/elec blaster
ice/dev blaster
grav/thermal troller
fort
claws/regen scrap
energy/nin stalker

Any suggestions to which might be the most viable? Thanks in advance.

bring the fire elec and the em stalker. They will probably need an updated build. Most of your list is right. Much like prior to i13 though I am still of the opinion that high defense is underrated. The only major difference is now its only good on melee characters. Also buffs can be underrated. In an arena setting shields are probably a waste but in zones they can help cover up some bad builds. Also emps and pds are still huge.





If you are looking to do arena the grav therm would have uses as well.

Phase and Hibernate are still handy, and almost essential. SS/SJ is still the way to go.

To me, knockback seems to be king now. Is there a way to slot for enough knockback protection to stop things like Levitate and Force bubble

a claws/regen will work too.

you just can't put focus on your tray, and concentrate on AS's and shark-trowing.

I'm currently running my fire/elec blaster because i'm too tired of PVE to start over with a psy/fire/em/mm. It's still very nice and i prefer it over my scraps just for the range as I have a hard time melee-ing with the lags.

Two fire blasts + elec fence is all you need to chain, and you can slot elec fence with the hold procs. the fire snipe is great, except when you kill someone from 300ft away and don't get credit. from /elec, power sink is handy when you get elec/therm'ed, and lightning field can sometimes unhide regen stalkers, or at least warn you an AS is coming when you see "missed" from out of nowhere by you. I even got a lightning field kill once--trustory.
