RSF Stoner
tough, weave, and after that recharge or defense to your taste (your hp benefits from recharge via earth's embrace)
Another possibility, if you aren't set on a brute, and are looking specifically at RSFs, is a mind dom. It actually makes the entire encounter a lot safer than any brute could due to the sleep method.
If the team has 6 corruptors, a granite brute is a liability, not an advantage. Another vote for what Kahlan said, mind permadom = trivialised Freedom Phalanx fight.
If you're dead set on a granite, once you've got Tough and Weave as much +hp and +recharge as you can get. The +hp makes the regen from Rooted much more effective and stacks with Earth's Embrace, and the recharge is to have Earth's Embrace up as much as possible, as well as for your attacks since Granite is a -65% recharge debuff.
Srsly though, RSF teams would be much better off with a fort/dom/corr than a granite.

What they said, +HP will stack well with what the set offers. Regen is isn't usually an optimal way to slot for. More HP will always be better because it increases your regen and resistance in a way.
But, if you are going to have 6 corrupters backing you up, roll anything, seriously. With that much support you can easily have the survivability of granite without the penalties. The usefulness of a stone brute diminished after i9 IMO.

If you are set on a stone brute, you will want to work past the penalties of granite, which means focusing on bonuses for run speed and recharge. Then after you're fairly happy with that, you'll want to focus on S/L/E defense, which will drastically increase your survivability without having to worry if someone forgot to buff you.
The big hole you will have is Psi, which means you'll be wary of numina and sister psyche.
very cool.
thanks for all the help.
definitely not giving up on the elec/stone, as a stone brute is pretty useful in quite a few other tf-ey situations, but i've decided to also spec my mind/ice for rsfs.
Get with the times son, running RSFs with a stoner is a thing of the past.
Then stick it to the man by rolling a /WP or /Dark Brute like it should be done
a well built WP (high HP, softap def) would be much better at (lol)tanking the RSF because of all the exotic damage.
Sister Psyche and Numina will shred a granite brute. At least WP has the hitpoints to eat the stuff its not uber against and keep on truckin'. Three thousand hitpoints is a lot of wiggle room.

At least until Positron eats the WP alive. But then, if your Brute isn't already buffed to excessive extremes to trivialize the encounter, you're doing it entirely wrong regardless of if you have an excellent build or a toggle-less Invuln.

So, I've rolled an elec/stone for the sole purpose of RSFing with it with the basic 6 corr + brute + pity spot lineup. I don't want to make this a thread about how every brute can do this. I want a margin of safety that I think only a stone brute in granite can provide.
I want a brute that can sit under the boot taunting the full phalanx (with a few insps popped to deal with the psi), lightning rod-ing, and just keeping agro off the squishies while AVs die to debuffs and dps. I used to do this with my old VG back in the day, but I was always on a corruptor.
I am wondering what my build goal should be if I plan on doing this. Recharge? HP? Regen? Softcap S/L?
