Channel Question

I'm currently playing on a new (to me) server and was looking for a channel to join. Did a search based on the server's name, got a list, found a description that sounded ok, and joined, no problems. I scroll down the list to see if I recognize any global names and notice that there's a great big white square to the left of my global. What does it mean?

I'm not familiar with the intricacies of channel set-up etc, and I just got done writing a long English paper. Brain too broke to talk to/ask live peeps about square without the current possibility of sounding stupid/being irritating, so I'm posting instead (preview post function is my friend).

Thanks for any info.

The white box means you are muted/silenced. It might be a private channel?

Pretty sure you can't join a private channel without being invited.

Some channels are set so that new joins need to be unsilenced by an operator. I'd speculate that this was to cut down on RMT spammers, but I couldn't say for sure.

Scan the channel list for an operator and send them a tell asking to be unsilenced.

Aha. Possibly then - although I wouldn't think that it would/could be found on a channel search. Since the channel is (I think) information based and not SG based, would it be considered rude to kick back and listen? Or is the flag on my name preventing me from seeing any posts on the channel as well?

I don't want to tick anyone off, just looking for a channel on Justice with some chatter on it.

Thanks for info.

*shrug* If it allowed you to join, it's a public channel. Don't forget to assign the new channel to one of your chat tabs, and you should be able to see what other people are saying.

It's not like you'd be the first person on a global chat channel that doesn't say anything.

If you see an opp in the channel (blue name w/ star next to it) ask to be unmuted. Welcome to Justice. Also, if you want, try checking out www.repeat-offenders.net

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.

I believe joining a global channel automatically adds it to your active tab.

But it only adds it automatically to the chat window for THAT toon. Any other pre-existing toons need the channel to be added manually.
