Gray Huntress World Tour
Very cool idea Gray, very similar to what Bayani was doing, but possibly on a large scale, and more varied.
Most of my chars from the Heriverse are native of Earth, Praetoria, or other alternate Earths, and a few of them from another planet but displaced to Earth somehow. All of them are native to the Paragon City, aside from Arizona Summer, who is from that state, but running around PC for the time being. All ATs are accounted for, take yer pick on what grabs you, if anything. All the Heris and Wherls are different in their natures and interests and M.O.s, although the constant is most everything tends to center on Heri as she tried to be a hero, and in turn focuses on Wherl, who's her Praetorian opposite. Things go back and forth between here and Praetoria between all the mess. And then there's Herricane, who just kinda goes about the whole superhero thing in a fun lackadaisical manner. She of all the Heris would be the one that would be globetrotting while exploring and having fun, and prolly has her own international exploits and memories. |
Kim Paler/FireBrandi's been doing crossovers too, though I think both of our aims were mostly character-story related rather than background scenes. What I've been doing is selecting characters that I can see guest-starring in a Bayani comic book, if one were to ever be made. As far as scale goes though...*shrugs* well everyone knows I'm extremely picky about artists and shoot for high-level quality commissions so I don't have a whole lot of volume going. (not volunteering my characters by the way, but I'll be interested in seeing what you end up with)
I would like to put in Echo So'kar.
Echo
Echo is quite heroic; she discovered her powers when she was 16, saving an elderly couple from a runaway bus. She is a Willpower/Super Strength tanker, with the ability to fly. She has been known to have an angry streak in her; she once put a supervillain in a comatose state from pummeling them with everything from her fists, chunks of concrete, and light poles. She is essentially a good person, and she always tries her best in every situation. Giving up is never, ever an option.
She has bench pressed four and a half tons before.
She originally hails from Vancouver, Canada, though she is very interested in Europe.
Echo is willing to do almost anything once; she has tried many, many things in her travels and journey to Hero of the City.
Hope that's enough information.

I'll add Moreau to the list.
This massive, leonine brute lives for violence and victory in battle. He is never happier than when he is proving that he is the strongest, meanest, most ruthless individual set upon this earth. To that end he spends most of his time competing in illegal extreme fighting matches in places like Japan, China or Australia. At one point he did compete in sanctioned superhuman bouts but wound up killing the reigning champion over a "disagreement" during a weigh in and press conference. Moreau took the belt and wears it to this day like a badge of honor.
When not quenching his thirst for violence and conquest in the squared circle Moreau hires himself out as an enforcer for underworld organizations and even does wetworks for anyone willing to pay him. Currently he is working for an unnamed employer within Arachnos.
Moreau also spends a large amount of time in New Zealand leading some to believe that he may be of Maori descent. While this would explain his warrior mentality his physical mutations make it impossible to tell his true lineage. Although he does not perform a traditional war haka prior to any of his fights he has been known to tear or bite off and consume pieces of flesh from his beaten and bloodied opponents. Whether this represents an ancient cultural practice or is merely an indication of his ferocious nature is unknown.

I hope the initial theme isn't misleading; essentially it's a "Provide me a setting and I'll write you a story" situation, and if I do select an individual there will be PM convos discussing the deeper details behind the scenario rather than just having them strike a pose in front of Great Wall of China; overall, I hope there will be a great deal of character-story development. After an agreement has been reached then I select from a variety of artist's who I believe have the talent to render the quality I'm looking for (Don't worry, I'm not pulling you in

It'd be cool to see some sort of story to go along with the artwork, like Gray Huntress following some sort of international conspiracy across the planet, a la James Bond/Indiana Jones/Lara Croft, etc. I have characters from every region of the globe, so I think I'll add some here later when I get some time.

Nothing would make you stick to that exact location after choosing them and discussing the storyline with them but it would make them be a bit more specific and might dig up some really interesting pics!

Example:
Fenian Girl's parents come from Ireland, she chose her colors and name due to this connection with the place. One day she hopes to win back her parents and maybe go back to the old country and see them again... Perhaps she could meet up with you at the Giants Causeway...

From wiki: The Giant's Causeway (or Irish: Clochán na bhFómharach)[1] is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. It is located in County Antrim, on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, about two miles (3 km) north of the town of Bushmills. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, and a National Nature Reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, the Giant's Causeway was named as the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom. The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven and eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (36 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres thick in places.
Or perhaps something a bit more mundane if the location didn't have any really cool sites like that...
Daybreaker Alpha is from Buffalo, New York originally and still has some family there. He occasionally, reluctantly, returns there. It wouldn't be hard to imagine him bumping into you above City Hall to foil some kind of terrorist plot or such...

From Wiki:
It was customary in the past to erect triumphal arches memorializing the victories of war, but the architect and builders of Buffalo City Hall have endeavored to portray the constructive rather than the destructive side of life. Their focus was to accomplish in stone, steel and glass what the ancient Greeks did in stone and timber.
The importance of this Art Deco masterpiece is immediately relevant upon viewing its command of the downtown Buffalo and the waterfront. When approaching City Hall from Niagara Street, one is impressed with an architectural style which is modern without being modernistic and which depicts the age in which it was built. Also, it generally balanced its modernism with a taste of the symbolism normally associated with classical architecture. The exterior and interior are adorned with symbolic figures and decorations, which in bold relief portray an industrial theme.
In keeping with this approach, the main entrance of City Hall is made up of symbolic units forming columns and lintels. The shafts of the columns represent large octagons nut with rivet heads and stud heads applied there. The molding of the lintel is styled to depict a saw, thus portraying the power in Buffalo's industry.
Anyway, was just a thought I had when reading the "stick them in front of the Great Wall" comment... While this is kind of doing just that it would be more about finding more unique and less seen places which are still unique to the locale...
Hmmm, Actually this is something I might consider doing once I start buying commissions again big time.... Hmmmm, nevermind.

*Yes I know it's long but Ironik's idea of tying the pictures together with a story inspired me. I have probably taken some liberties with the character of Gray Huntress but I claim artistic license in those cases. At any rate, enjoy!
House of Pain
Gray Huntress moved quickly along the rooftops, a dusky shadow racing against the coming dawn. She weaved, leapt and vaulted her way through the maze of wires, ductwork, television aeriels and air conditioning units with only the occasional clacking from the quiver of arrows on her back for company.
~I hate this place. I've always hated this place!~, she mused silently and easily cleared the gap from one rooftop to another across the street from the non-descript white building that was her destination. A slight breeze helped to dissipate the pervading odor of the Kamagasaki streets and alleyways below as the first light of dawn started to stain the horizon. High wispy clouds painted gold, scarlet and dusky rose faded into a brilliant cobalt blue sky as the night once again surrendered the city of Osaka to the sun.
Huntress stopped to survey the quiet street below. No one appeared to be about but it was hard to tell with the homeless seeking out shadowy doorways or even the leeward side of buildings for a place to sleep. The discarded lumps strewn around the narrow sidewalks could be garbage or derelicts. Satisfied that the risk was minimal she dropped to an overhanging ledge and then down to the cracked pavement with her cape billowing and flapping behind her. The combined stench of old urine, rotting garbage, unwashed bodies and worse was overpowering. She ignored the assault on her senses through sheer force of will and quickly crossed the street to a darkened doorway.
A small callbox hung beside the door with four plastic green buttons. The top most button marked the corresponding floor as vacant.
The button glowed briefly when Huntress pressed and held it with her right thumb and the wan light caused her reflection to appear ghostlike in the small window set in the door before her. Her dark hair, costume and mask only reinforced the illusion by making her reflection appear to hover in the shadows behind the dark glass like some nightmarish sentinel. She glared at the fading image and adjusted the quiver strap on her shoulder in irritation.
"I hate this place! I should have put that animal down when I had the chance!", the words hissed between gritted teeth.
There was a buzzing from behind the door and the lock clicked open allowing her access. Huntress stepped into a small foyer. A fading mural of samurai watching a pair of sumo wrestlers compete adorned the walls in the small space and another door painted with cherry blossoms stood locked before her. As the exterior door closed and locked the interior door clicked open. At the same moment the wall to her right slid open to reveal a narrow and brightly lit elevator. The elevator took her below street level to a wood paneled office sparsely decorated with modern looking furniture and bamboo plants.
A professional looking woman wearing a tailored suit jacket in light gray over a black turtle neck sat behind a large desk typing away at a laptop computer. Her auburn hair was cut in a short wedge and she wore only a hint of make up. "Good morning Ma'am," the woman said politely without looking up from her work, "Mr. Halloran has been expecting you so you may as well go in."
Huntress squared her shoulders, mentally repeated a mantra about the ends justifying the means and stepped through the door flanking the desk. The office beyond was very much like the last one save for the large impressionist oil painting of the Statue of Liberty hanging on the wall behind the desk. On the corner of the desk sat a small autographed picture of John Wayne. The man behind the desk could best be described as rumpled. His suit looked like he had slept in it, his tie was loosened and the collar of his wrinkled shirt was unbuttoned. Even his thin face looked rumpled, his cheeks hung loosely, almost jowl-like on either side a long prominent nose and his wide mouth was fixed in a permanent frown. Sad gray eyes considered her from beneath bushy eyebrows.
"You were supposed to be here yesterday Gray." Halloran accused in a bored sounding voice.
"You weren't supposed to need me anymore Hal." Huntress retorted. "Did your dog break it's leash again?"
"What makes you think that I have any work for you?"
"The fact that you specified that I pack light means whatever you want done is going to be a cape and cowl job. You didn't tell me where we were supposed to meet which means I have to come to this God forsekan place to find you and you only discuss work here." Huntress ticked off the reasons on her fingers with a hard edge in her voice. "You also paid for my airfare and accommodations and you're too damn cheap to pay for anything unless you get something in return. Did I miss anything?" She could feel her irritation swiftly turning into anger and fought to keep her self under control.
~wrongthingsfortherightreasonswrongthingsfortherig htreasonswrongthingsfortherightreasons~ The mantra played in her mind over and over.
"The fact that you still owe me a favor?" Hal got out of his chair and came around the desk with an annoyed look on his normally somber face. He caught himself, sighed once and then sat down sedately on the corner of his desk.
"I don't owe you anything Halloran. I tracked down your dog once and you told me that you brought him to heel."
"I never said...."
"And I told you that we were quits!" Huntress interrupted. Her mantra was now forgotten and she was warming to her subject. "I did what you paid me to do! Hell I even worked with that monster on your say so!"
"He gets results." Hal shrugged in an unperturbed manner.
"Results? Look Halloran, I get what you do and why you do it and in some small way I even support it; needs of the many and all that but Moreau is not your run of the mill hired gun. He's an inhuman, cannibalistic sociopath with the strength of an elephant and no threshold of pain or moral compass!" Huntress was now letting her anger speak for her, she knew that it was a mistake but she was beyond caring.
"He is a blunt instrument and a damn good one and the world at large is a hell of alot safer if he is where I can keep an eye on him and kennel him if necessary." Hal explained with a sigh. "Now if you still don't want to take the job I can find someone else that does."
"And Moreau will literally chew his way through them one after the other all so that you can have your pet psycho to keep your success rate up! When did the job become more important than your conscience?"
"You're asking the wrong question Gray, the question is how much blood do my people have to spill just to keep your conscience clean?"
Huntress opened her mouth to speak, stopped and then dropped her shoulders in defeat. Hal had let her talk herself into taking the job. She was the obvious candidate because she was the one that could bring Moreau in with a minimum of collateral damage. Impotent anger turned to grim resolve and she smiled wolfishly. "So let me bring him in in a body bag." she offered in a flat, chilly tone.
"Dead is no good." Hal shook his head and reached into his desk drawer for a file. "Like it or not Moreau is one of the best resources that I have for underworld information and something is in the works right now that has the small timers skittering for the shadows like cockroaches."
"What do you mean something is in the works?" Huntress asked on impulse.
"Bring me Moreau and then we'll both know." Hal shrugged and opened the file he was holding. "He was working out of the Rogue Isles just before he dropped out of sight. My sources say he was planning to fight in some superhuman kumite here in Japan but as far as we know nothing like that is going on here. That means he's probably gone to ground in New Zealand. I'd start looking on the South Island, the mountains there give him more places to hide."
Huntress took the file from Hal's hand, rolled it up and stashed it in her quiver. "Let's skip the geography lesson. I'll find him, I always do." she said with resignation and turned to leave.
"What have you got on Moreau that you can control him Hal?" Huntress asked without turning back around, her hand on the doorknob.
"Considering your diatribe about my conscience do you really want to know?."
Huntress opened the door and left without another word.

Lemme see if I can get some photos for Modern Hoplite.
Basically, I imagined them fighting baddies and potentially protecting relics and/or artifacts in the Parthenon. A famous ruin in Athens.
They could be protecting things such as a bust of
Pericles
Or great ancient items of power, like the golden fleece
I am a myth geek, I can't help it.
Currently in class at the moment, so I can't really go into too much depth at how incredibly impressed I am with everyone's recent contributions! Trust me, I'm gonna have plenty to say when I finally get out in six hours, but until then I'm sneaking in to say "Wow!"
edit:
And like Caem said, going above and beyond my basic numbered outline of requests is not required, and hopefully no one feels they need to do the same in order to compete
Competition? nooooooooooo ... here I was thinking that a french accent, some stunning good looks, a little bravado and an iced tea would be enough ... so glad I put that bit about looking for clues on a tree trunk in the mountains now ... you know ...after seeing all the other posts ... (hehe)

I'll throw my hat into the ring.
This is Piratical, my DB/SR scrapper.
The ingame bio should answer your questions but if you pick him and ned any more info just ask.
While he only lived in the Carribean until he was 12 he still holds an affinity for his childhood home and spends as much time there as his hero work will allow. One day he will remember which island his father had buried a treasure on.
As for a scene, he is a sailor at heart and is quick to respond to any distress calls from ships. I can see them maybe defending a cruise ship from an attack by undead pirates from a ghost ship or maybe a sea monster, or villains from the isles.
I will pay you to do a Feral Kat / Gray Huntress crossover.

I decided to sleep after class because it was rather long (yay, color theory), but now I can finally respond
Caem - Aha! and you implied nothing could really be done in Buffalo, the City Hall is quite striking. With the story rough I've been developing so far, I think Giant's Causeway could fit in rather nicely.
Ironik - Those are a lot of characters, and each has a little bit they can each offer to the theme. Granted I'm not going to choose all of them, but they all have the potential to be really helpful
McBoo - Your story was amazing! And great job capturing the personality and contradiction of Gray: she completely believes the ends justify the means, and yet she also struggles with a crisis of conscience that sometimes make it seem like that mantra wouldn't be entirely accurate (but it is with her). Thank you for sharing your creativity with us; I loved reading my character
Thornster - You'll be hard-pressed to try to sway me with charm and good looks, you'll need to be 5'8, dark hair/blue cat eyes (not the slanted pupils, but rather the shape) woman with a lethal Ukranian accent; otherwise, my willpower is strong But yes, your scene idea could fit in really well with some of the ideas I've been having.
Clobbertime - Very nice character A battle on the high seas would be amazing (that and I finished watching the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy a couple of days ago. Cool character design too.
Foo - You'll pay for a crossover between two characters that aren't yours? Well, knock yourself out, but in light of GK's question...maybe not, I probably shouldn't be so quick to trust ya

Of course the whole thing about ya having to live here to see it's charms and know where to find the good stuff, etc is probably true of most cities. *shrug*
I actually debated over places... The "Gold Dome" (I think official name was Buffalo Saving's Bank?) is pretty cool visually as well what with it's... Well, Gold Dome obviously

(That and, if youre of a perverted mind and really try... You can imagine the city hall building basically being a homage to a certain body part...)
Just chose the Giant's Causeway because the hexagonal pillar thingies are way cool and mind blowing to think that they're totally natural. At least to my simple mind.

I'm sure Foo just believes the two would be very evenly matched chess opponents and he'd like to see such a match immortalized...
I'd prefer to see the team up include battery operated toys, edible clothing and lots and lots of Jello... But Foo is too much the gentleman to think such thoughts!

That truly was a really good read! And it's cool to hear he got her personality down pretty well... That's always a concern when someone is writing anothers character.

Honestly I debated deleting the post completely the next morning for fear of upsetting Huntress so I'm relieved to see that she enjoyed the story.
