What do you get with your merits?

I'm starting to experiment with merits from TFs. I'm looking to make money by using the merits to buy recipes, then craft them, and then sell them.

Which recipes are the best to buy for this and how many merits will they cost?

Thanks.

Go with either Numina: +Regen/+Recov or LotG: +Rech

I thought Numina: +Regen/+Recov was good but I just checked and the enhancements is selling for only 70 mil?!?! Did I check the wrong one? I heard that they were supposed to be about 250 mil. Let me know if I checked the wrong thing because I hope it did lol.

LotG 7.5 is good - it's around 100m for the recipe and costs 200 merits, working out to about 450k/merit.

Blueside, Numina's is actually a pretty poor choice. It barely sells for 70m crafted and costs 250 merits. With a few exceptions, merit purchases in general are bad value for money - the market is cheaper.

Yeah I'm trying to debate whether to just do AE farming and craft my reward rolls that I get from my tickets or to also do this stuff with the merits. So if LotG is probably the best blueside, then I'll check it out.

But any more opinions on if it's even worth it to do these merit purchases?

If I'm after influence/infamy, use the random rolls.

On average they will be more profitable than direct purchase

Okay that's what I've been doing with AE's tickets. So I'll probably just stick with that. (I've been doing the Bronze level 35-39 by the way and they are turning out pretty good for me so far).

But there are cases where what you want to buy just is not available at the level you need (like most Unbounded Leap or Celerity Stealths), unless you want to wait for weeks or months for one to come up. In that case, you are better off going ahead and spending your merits on one instead of spending on a high selling recipe (like the aforementioned LotG) and then not being able to use your massive earnings to purchase what you need.

It depends really. If I need a specific expensive recipe for this toon (or another toon) I get that. If not, just want the inf, I check the market.. And look at the supply of the "known" expensive things, see which one would net me the highest profit and go with that. Those couple of days the Miralce unique sells pretty good. I do at least 2 TFs a day simply because I enjoy them a lot. So merits are just a "side profit" to me and a good way to make quick money when needed.

Assuming of course that you're running the task force/arcs at the desired level, and have gained enough merits by the time you've leveled that far.

Outside of those that park toons at certain levels, this is a rarity. Most TFs are run by toons as they level or exemplaring down from high levels, and in that case you just bought a very expensive Celerity. You level so fast now that it is very difficult to get 200+ merits early without turning XP off. This is, of course, the reason why such IOs are completely non-existent on the market, whereas their high level versions are quite common.

My Shield/Axe Tanker hasn't turned off exp. He kills in bulk with his AoE capability and the bonus damage from Shield's AAO toggle. I've also run some AE content with him (notable because it gives me exp without any merits) on x4, x6, and x8 settings.

He is now level 43 and has 650+ merits. He's also got the Task Force Commander accolade.

This is just anecdotal, but it's not extraordinarily difficult to get lots of merits before hitting 50 even without turning off exp.

I'm not talking about before level 50, I'm talking about the lowbie levels where celerity is almost non-existent, and therefore worth that kind of merit output. I should have been more specific than just saying 'early'.

Of course, if you are REALLY looking for big money via IO's, then go do PvP.

Last time I looked, some of the new PvP IO's were selling for over a BILLION influence.

(Assuming you don't mind PvP that is. I hate PvP so much that even several billion in influence isn't enough of an incentive....)

I buy either Numina or LotG for the inf.

I'll buy Miracle to slot on alts.

One thing I wish the devs had time to look at is lowering the prices of sets through merits.

For example Kinetic Combat. It seems they based the cost in merits based on it's value on the markets. It's my opinion they shouldn't have gone this route.

Uniques & procs should cost a lot of merits but I don't think the various other set recipes shouldn't.

In the short term..sure people will buy recipes such as KC and sell them for a quick buck but over time it will level out.

If they reduced the cost to 50 merits per set recipe(UNIQUES/PROCS EXCLUDED) one wouldn't have to dip into the markets.

I'm sure I'm in the minority with respect to this & that's ok.

I realize the devs won't institute this change so I continue with business as usual.

You cannot buy pvp recipes with merits, although i suspect you meant people should play in pvp zones to get a pvp drop.
