This suggestion reminds me of when the devs tried to change powers in the Epic and Patron pools...

the devs have pretty well much learned that "replacing" powers is just a bad idea. Because at first it seems like it X power sucks and is completely useless..
Then out of nowhere, hundreds of players start screaming "X WAS MY FAVORITE POWER!!!!!!!"
So, whether or not your idea is good, whether or not you have a well thought out reason for it.. saying "replace X power" is usually a good recipe for "DOOOOOOOOOOOOM". >.>

Lets endorse this and say please change Serum for anything really. It is a pretty useless power. Anybody here using it? Anybody? Echo....
And what is wrong with summoning a cottage? The things you can do with a nice cottage..

For instance, I've got an ice/psy/mace dom. The devs were going to replace Disruptor Blast with Personal Force Field. I *use* Disruptor Blast - I can use more damage. PFF, by comparison, means I can do *nothing.* Sure, I'm relatively safe, but I'm not building domination (and at the time, dom was a damage as well as mag boost,) stacking holds, or doing damage. Needless to say, I was *not* a fan of that idea in the least. I had a mostly full primary and secondary, and everything else set up the way I wanted, happy with my performance. Other builds had much the same reaction - I don't recall just what was getting switched where, but it was a negative impact on several builds. (A few were positive, sure.)
So the devs made the *right* decision and just added the power as an option instead of unilaterally changing powers - powers you'd already picked.
Compare that to, say, Energy Aura. EA's pretty good on endurance, and has (among other things) an endurance drain power. One complaint that kept getting made, however, was that it had no self heal and was, by the numbers, less survivable. Instead of replacing one of the powers, they added a heal in with the energy drain. One already useful power was buffed. (A similar path was taken with electric armor.)
So, while Serum is generally regarded as one of the weaker "buffs," it'd be better to suggest increasing magnitude, duration, decreasing recharge or something similar.
Lets be fair, it is basically unstoppable grantable to a henchman.
Increase duration to 180s (same as unstop) and call it done.

He read on the blaster forums about how useless it is and being a dumb henchman he believed what he read.

Okay I'll accept the arguement that serum is useful when its active, and can be used for placing useful set IOs. However its usefulness as a power and not a set bonus mule is limited to when its up and running which is 60 seconds out approx 500 seconds when slotted with basic SOs for recharge. That more than 7x its duration in downtime. Am I the only person who see that as a problem?
I still want Gun Drone but I'll be realistic, tweaking Serum to be more useful is much easier and will likely result in a better pleased vs pissed players ratio.

Don't know why, but my first thought was "Hmmm...what if instead of serum, merc masterminds could give a merc incendiary rounds?"
....Nah.
Personally, I think Serum is just fine. Either increasing its duration or decreasing its recharge would probably be enough to fix any underlying issues of usefulness. And, why not do both? Up the power's duration to two minutes and slash the recharge to 600 seconds. Or even 360 seconds like Time Bomb.

I can hear the suggestions forum groaning now. Please replace serum with Gun Drone. I think it would be a huge improvement to merc mms. Of course it might make them go from underpowered to overpowered but I have no data to go by just play experience.
