OOC: Where To Go to RP?

I'm asking this here since I feel I wont be flamed/trolled for doing so. I'm new to City of Heroes/Villains, I am currently on Trial, if I like the game I'll stay but so far it runs better on my computer than Champions. Now, as a new player I have no clue where to go to search for roleplay or what server I am most likely to find it on. I checked the roleplay supergroup thread and it looks like Roleplaying is mainly done on the EU servers, is anyone able to tell me otherwise? I have 6+ years of RP and I mainly come to games searching for roleplay.

you can find groups that roleplay on multiple servers, such as the Girls of Nukem High, Feline Foundation Z, and Dolls.

However, the unofficial roleplaying server (and you have no idea how much I hate that term) is the Virtue Server.

Far as I see it, if I'm playing a game where everybody's dressed up in tight's prancing around, I'll stay in character where-ever I feel like staying in character.

Thanks, I guess I'll see you on Virtue? GNH, FFZ and Dolls seem like all girl hero groups :/

I may be mistaken but it seems pretty difficult to find roleplay outside of a supergroup that supports it. Those can be found on any server.

I know trying to find it in a pug or just standing around can be virtually impossible, even on Virtue.

All I can recommend is to stay in character when possible without being obnoxious about it and eventually you'll accumulate some global friends who like to roleplay too or even stumble across an invite into a RP supergroup. I know, back when we were recruiting, we did it by inviting random people who asked to join us and weren't scared off when we told them we roleplayed. Then checked out how much they joined in.

I -think- the Dolls have an all-male "Action Figures" SG too, so don't panic, methinks.

Regardless, there's bound to be plenty more RPSGs kicking about on Virtue, each with their own requirements or lack thereof (as in, not all of them are all-girl), so I wouldn't worry about that too much.

And over here in Europe, it's Union. Just so you know.

Virtue is indeed the unofficial RPing server, but there are people here and there on most servers. I know there's a big RP community on Protector, for one; and I don't doubt there are some on most other servers.

The best advice I can give you is to read bios. Some people put "((RP'er))" in their biography.

If you're desperate, hang out in Pocket D on Virtue for a while.

Be aware this may fairly quickly result in loss of faith in humanity and/or a crushed soul.

I'm so lonely here on Winfinity, that I may transfer over to Virtue JUST to have my soul crushed.

What, us crushing it in global channels isn't enough for you?

Pfffft. You forget, I imbibe Moonbeam Absinthe. You couldn't crush me if you pressed me between two gigaton hammers.

Fine then, disintegration it is. Or I could borrow Khell's graser cannon, I guess.

Now now, save the super-weapons for other threads. :S

But, they're SUPER! Besides, overkill is hilarious and I will not be persuaded otherwise.

Welcome to the Role-Playing Forum!

Virtue (North American) and Union (European) are the two unofficial role-playing servers in-game, but you can also find some fantabulous role-playing threads right here in the Role-playing section of the Forums. Some of those threads will be "Open" to everyone and others will be "Closed" and by invitation only, but such threads are usually marked as such in the subject heading. As I understand it, some of the role-playing threads here are also connected to in-game events, usually on Union.

Two long-lived threads are "Whitmoore Apartments" and "9 p.m. under GG's skirt". It's best to read the first few and the last few pages of any thread(s) to which you want to become a part. The aforementioned threads also have their own Wiki pages, so those are also good places to look.

I have to concur that it is best to stay away from Pocket D for "role-playing" unless you want to be in therapy for the next 10-30 years! The goings-on there are ... well ... let's just say that the mind wobbles and leave it at that! Have a gallon bottle of brain bleach ready if you venture there. You have been warned!

The RP supergroup thread is a leftover from when they merged the EU and US forums, so pretty much all the posts before a certain date will be for the EU.

As has been said, the two main RP servers are Union (eu) and Virtue (us), but theres varying amounts on all servers.
Having played on both US and EU, i can say you'll find a lot more, and varied, RP on Virtue. Possibly due to having a far higher population.

Also on topic, here's another shoutout for Protector. There are multiple roleplaying SGs (including mine, the Teamsters /shamelessplug) and it's a much more relaxed community than Virtue when it comes to roleplaying as far as what channels are/aren't IC/OOC. IMHO, join up with a more relaxed community in the game first to get your feet wet (and read a lot of the threads here), then jump over to Virtue when you've got a solid base in game lore and a handle on your characters.

So, I leapt into Virtue and found a friendly community willing to help me out, heck...they even helped me get my second costume slot and gave me the money to make my second costume. So all around I like Virtue...although I am slightly bothered with the fact Villains and Heroes commingle in Pocket D WITHOUT trying to kill eachother...right now I have: A. Alex Chase (Merc Mastermind) and B. XV-88 Defender (Electricity Tank)

PS: Whats the chance of finding a nice romance without it becoming soley based on eRP?

Depends if you're looking in Pocket D or not. The chances are far higher if you're not.

As for the fighting or lack thereof, it's fairly common to see people try to beat each other up there. Sometimes they take it to the arena, sometimes they don't. But it happens, despite the big 'there is no fighting here' thing that comes up when you go in. One would think DJ Zero would enforce that one fairly well. He doesn't want his club blown to kingdom come by a superpowered bar brawl after all.

Heroes and Villains don't always fight in the comics/cartoons after all! Sometimes they've been known to team up to face a greater threat, perhaps there's some grudging respect or odd sense of camaraderie, or even love. Pocket D is a neutral place where either people aren't supposed to cause trouble, or if they do they get ported elsewhere.

Cindersnap once got a christmas present given to him by his former best friend turned villain, as they put aside their differences for the season. Jan Boa enjoys having a place where she can get the low-down on happenings in Paragon City from close to the source, and sometimes even befriend them.

As for romance without eRP? Well, it can and does happen. Maybe any intimate scenes are simply faded to black and left unmentioned, or merely a brief OOC chat agreeing on some things between the characters.

The thing with pocket D is that the local god is floating RIGHT THERE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PLACE. If you cause trouble in his little paradise...

Even the most psychotic and senseless person would think twice before starting a fight in the D.

You'd think so, wouldn't you. As I said earlier, happens disturbingly frequently. Though, most of them tend to be pretty terrible at RPing to begin with. (Hint: Characters who never ever lose get old really fast.)

Hmm do tend to RP in Pocket D until I found myself a nice SG/VG on both Union and Virtue. Still RP in Pocket D on Virtue on occasions.

As for the 'no fighting rule' eh...if both parties are in agreement and things are worked out beforehand then don't see a problem with it in the D, as long as it's taken to a side area.

Found a nice VG, the Widow's Web, it's a tad quiet but it has ongoing plot and organises Strikeforces, been through several VG's but they've all broken up or been deserted except for me.

Thinking of starting up a hero but got no idea (since I've played exclusively villainside) who to ask or what RPSG is looking for members...or even what AT I want to play...

So any busy RPSG's looking for a new, experienced, member...hit me up or atleast someone tell me where to look

When my trial is up and if I can't keep the game due to money issues...will I still be able to come around and RP here on the forums?
