Suggestions for a good primary with Elec Melee

I've been meaning to give ELM a try, since it's one of the few secondaries I've played all the way through. But having no experience with it, I was wondering what other Tanker fanatics have found to be a good primary to go with it.

I know ELA could stack the -end with it, but I'm about to finish taking an ELA/SM tank to 50 and would prefer to level up something else. Any suggestions?

Shield Defence is a good pair, I think; ELM has a heavy AOE-aspect to it, and SD is definitely the damage-stacking and AOE-focused primary. ELM/SD Brutes seem popular (I certainly enjoy mine.)

My Shield/Electric tanker is great fun, and levelled very quickly; she hit 50 about a month after i16 went live.

Willpower/Electric sounds promising also. You can probably postpone Stamina a bit longer than I usually do. The splash damage should help you hold the attention of more mobs at a time.

I also considered Fire/Electric. That would also be an offense oriented, AoE based character. I went with Shield instead b/c defense currently trumps resistance in PvE.

Wp/Elec is very fun. I did end up picking Stamina a bit earlier than my WP/SS, but that was due to me soloing more and wanting a quick attack chain.

I am having a blast with ice//elec level 45 currently, but ice does not suit everyones taste, but it is certianly one of my favorites

Hmm... I think I'll be going Shield/. Any suggested skippable attacks?

On my shield/electric tanker, I skipped Havoc Punch in favor of Jacob's Ladder. Not sure I would do this the same way again; despite being a slightly wider cone on paper, it seems to be even harder to hit more than one target with Jacob's Ladder than it is with Shadow Maul. Not sure why.

I also skipped Lightning Clap, of course.

Yeah, on paper Jacob's Ladder looks like it should be a lot better than Havoc Punch, but I've played a little bit with it as well and I don't really like it either. It says it only has a 0.17 slower animation time than Havoc but I swear it feels more like a 2s attack at least. I'd also say the reason melee cones can be hard to work with is the range. You try to get 3 or 4 guys lined up for it and target the one farthest away like you'd do with any other cone, but that guy just always seems to be a hair outside the range of the attack, so you try to push a little closer and you end up nudging out the other guys you had in range and end up only hitting 1 or 2 when you could've hit 3 or 4.

Of course, JL is pure energy damage which is nice, while Havoc is energy/smashing, but I can't stand using JL as a single target attack, accidentally or intentionally; just feels like wasting the attack to me. I'd go with Havoc.

For lower levels I think Jacobs Ladder is the better choice. Later on, when your AoE attack chain is more developed, I can see dropping it. I prefer it myself, never have a hard time hitting at least 2 mobs.

Thanks for all the input, everybody. I put together a little build for SD/ELM focusing on the soft-cap, and tons of HP. With accolades, I can get pretty close to the HP cap. Thoughts? Concerns?

This is the build I went with; it's all in place except for the Luck of the Gamblers. I am well pleased with the results.

Woops, wrong archtype for ninjitsu.
Dark/Elec might make a good angry storm cloud.
Shield/Elec is obviously a good combo - though perhaps a bit too common now.
