What's the best blaster for 1v1s? And overall? I was under the impression it was either psy/em or sonic/em but is it maybe fire/em then psy/em then sonic?

IMO:

Fire for 1v1 if proc'd out flares

Sonic in zones for taking out targets with decent +HP

Psy in zones for taking out squishies with the spike attack chain

Psy/Em > Fire/Em > Sonic/Em

Psy beats Fire because of the placate proc... All the above Blasters are kickass though

Thats true too, they are all so close that it depends on the situation... 1v1 Blaster vs Blaster I would roll the Psy/Em though, those fights are fast paced (for I13lol) that the placate proc really damages in there... I am a fan of the sonic and fire in zone though... fire has some nice tricks if you can afford to pick up Rain of Fire, you can usually plant it on a hibernating ally and save them from a triple AS... also good for flushing out stalkers if you use the ranged split second sight on them... I dunno if that has a name.. and I love having the jumping snipe... and flares is just awesome... Funnest to play = Fire for sure

Do you guys think sonic is still quite viable to compete with either one 1v1? What do you proc flares with chance for hold?

In a blaster fight it is still viable, just harder... Versing good blasters its a bad thing to be grounded too long because you will get knocked around like a rag doll which is why Sonic has a rough time... If you get a fast enough recharge on it, you can compete against other blasters with shriek/scream/shriek/scream instead of shriek/scream/shout... I've taken plenty of fire blasters and psy blasters on mine.

My flares have the Armageddon proc and chance for hold

Psy - Safest and therefore easiest to play, because of the broken placate proc. Also the fastest burst damage, since most of the attacks land roughly at the same time.

Fire - Several advantages. Fastest damage over time when procced. Only 2 total attacks needed, so that leaves room for more powers/slots. And it can put out the most damage while mezzed.

Sonic - Most damage over time. Can do pretty crazy burst hits after the target has some -res stacked.

Overall the 3 are about even. Different top blasters in the game have different opinions on what's the best, so that should say something.

I'd go with Fire or Psy. Sonic is pretty sweet, but Shout can get you murdered pretty quickly.

I agree with most of this, especially that part about rain of fire. Each set has good advantages and it depends what you want out of the toon.

Oh and about shout getting ya murdered, you don't have to use it unless you know its a good time.

Yah, awesome as a finisher in a blaster vs blaster.. I wouldn't use it many other times though, maybe in cargo map with kiting it behind boxes or in similar circumstances

I absolutely adore my sonic/em, shriek and scream kinda-sorta frankenslotted, 4 Apocs-1 Glad Jav Proc-1 D/R Hami and 4 Dev-1 Glad Jav Proc-1 D/R hami respectively. Although I concede that a psy/em will beat me, but only by merit of the placate proc, otherwise I win out most the time.

(Even bought 2-3 placate procs hero-side to make a few blasters delete the one they had in will dom to duel me. Won all of them closest score I had against was 4-2 my favor)

I agree with most the answers already given. 1v1 will continue to be psi em until the placate proc gets fixed, so around i40 or so. Fire/em and son/em are right behind and really depend on playstyle and slotting as to which is better. I would also throw a good word in for fire/mm, with fear having a seperate mez timer and the fact it doesn't always let you move when attacked when feared it can be pretty deadly. Also with fire mm you have three solid ranged attacks that you an use all the time. Helps alot in case you get slowed on top of mezzes.

My favorite blaster is my psi/dev and probably will be even after the placate proc fix. I still get the spike effect of blasting because of the way the damage hits and I get to play some good disruption to boot. I wouldn't really ever recommend it to anyone else though. A proced up fire/dev on the other hand would be a beast. Like max said being able to throw your best 2 attacks while mezzed is amazing.

TBH I don't really build my blaster for 1v1, I probably don't know the best. As far as im concerned blasters truly shine in team arena and zone pvp

A quick question....... fear being on a different timer, is that fear in general? Or just blaster fear?. I might need to respec my mind storm........ sigh..... yet again lol. As far as blasters go, I have a Fire/Dev and Psy/EM both respectively IOd and I really prefer to play the Fire/Dev. ALOT more fun for sure. Placate proc does have /win written all over it though........ I am still getting ready to respec my Fire/Dev again :-). More procs plz!!

I say psi/energy...

I have a psi/energy and i have done zone cleaning in RV with an emp on my back...

when you come down on any corr or dom with psi/energy... they will for sure die unless they hibernate, my psi doesn't even need hasten for the chain of attacks.

a big plus about psi is that it doesn't only do dmg, but also knocks back for those who don't have res to knockback, it placates and puts to sleep with proc and has very good nearly unresisted damage.

when dueling, being able to placate another player is one of the most helpful things a blaster can have...

so definatelly psi/energy for its 4attack chain and placate/knockback...

its only weakness is if someone has elusive mind or a wp... but i stil managed to kill a wp somehow with my tactic...

I think all fear has been broken forever. Even before I13, when you got feared, it was completely random what happened. Sometimes you were only feared for a second....sometimes for like 15 seconds. It was supposed to be ended by getting attacked, but that was random. Many times I got feared and was stuck there, watching people hit me with like 10 attacks, while I still couldn't move.

And apparently I13 didn't make it better. It's still pretty random. Sometimes it works like it's supposed to, sometimes you stay feared when you shouldn't. Basically just another bug that people exploit, because there's no reason not to when you play a completely broken game anyway.
