Quartz Accuracy Buff?

Anyone have any numbers on this? I am science origin and have got away from my science story arcs almost since the beginning. I'm now lvl 36 and doing the Terra Conspiracy and man, when the Guardians plop down a quartz, I'm usually toast. I'm a Kat/SR scrapper and can cap my defenses by popping a purple, but that doesn't seem to make much difference. Do these things boost acc by like 1000%?
I have tried targeting the quartz first, but this only seems somewhat effective. I've tried drawing targets away, again, somewhat effective. The most effective way to deal with these guys (for me) has been to drop my diff settings to -1 x4 or -1 x3, so there are fewer guys getting acc boost. That stinks, but I guess I can live with it to complete the arc. Anyone have any other suggestions?

First of all the quartz buff the tohit of the enemies, not the accuracy.

This may seem like a niggle over terminology, but it is very important.

the simple verion of the tohit equation is:

Final tohit = (base tohit -def + tohitbuff) * accuracy

The to-hit buff is basicaly counteracting your defence on a 1:1 basis.
An accuracy multiplier would be working from at/near the 5% floor and not have a great effect.

DE buffed by quartz are one of the few NPCs that pose a major threat to defence based characters in the traditional PEV game (Nemesis with Vengance and Rularru are the others).

I dont know of anywhere with the exact numbers, but I do know how to find it them out.

Using a power analyser on a DE group (or surveilance if available), monitor their +tohit before (should be 50%) and after a quartz is dropped.

Thanks for the info, I got the acc buff info from paragonwiki. The +tohit makes a boatload more sense - I should have wondered about that. I will use your suggestion to find out how much +tohit, but my guess is, I'm stuck lowering my diff settings, or getting some large purples. Thanks again.

Another possibility is to learn which enemy drops them (I don't recall for Quartz - I worry mainly about Cairns) and watch for them. Also, make a targeting bind so you can instantly target the Quartz even in the middle of a mob scene and take it out fast.

Agreed. While Quartz can hurt, being quick on the response once the Emanator goes down can solve the problem easily enough.

There are a bunch of "kryptonite" enemies in the later game- Psi, Toxic, untyped damage, massive mez, what have you. SR gets their "kryptonite" a little earlier. To make it extra annoying, there is both a Quartz minion and a Quartz pet, so the targeting bind is not guaranteed to get what you want. There may be a clever way to distinguish between them, I don't know. I hate all the Devouring Earth doorstops, except maybe Trees of Life. I don't hate Fungi much, but I don't play controllers much.

The Quartz bonus to hit is ridiculously high. RIDICULOUS. Something like +150% To Hit. There are a variety of tactics to deal; "kill it first", "stun/knockdown/kill the thing that drops it" have been mentioned. Worst case, you herd the group away after it drops. You move; the doorstop does not.

Trying to counteract the quartz emanators by adding more Defense is basically useless. You're must better off just destroying it first. (The value is +100% tohit, btw, so you need +100% defense in order to negate it. So if you're at 50% defense, already higher than you need in most situations, you need to triple your defense to negate the emanator)

Thanks for all the input. It's the Guardians (lt) that drop the thing. Even if I target the quartz and jump in and destroy, I still tend to faceplant at times b4 (or even after) I destroy it. Also, the Guardian just tends to drop another, in which case I ALWAYS faceplant. I do better using wedding band and orange (as has been mentioned, purples are just useless), but still tough with x8 diff options, so gonna just scale back to x4 for DE. It's a little bit lame, but I'd rather not spend time at hospital. Thanks again for all the info.

The LTs that drop emanators have to recharge their power to drop another. The recharge is something like 2 minutes. You should be able to defeat them before another emanator can drop.

That's cool, but what if the Quartz is already dropped when you find the spawn? I don't know how that is supposed to work, but I can say how it did work for me - target quartz, destroy, target Guardian, quartz dropped, wake-up in hospital.

then use your primary advantage as a player over NPCs, mobility. jump in, jump out, lead them off, then jump back and hit the emanator. Even with the bonus, ranged hits are almost always less potent than melee, so if you stay out of melee, you won't get hit as hard. Even better if you have an Immobilize. Draw them off, pin them down, then jump back in on the emanator when they can't get at you.
