I can understand that ...

I'm too lazy ... hmmm ... or inconsistent ... either way ... I will not expose anyone (or anyone's money) to my mood swings ... hehe

Oh please! You expose yourself in public all the time!

I'm having flashbacks. >.> This is almost exactly the same thread as the last one.

Indeed. Which is why I'll mention this site again:

http://www.bbb.org/us/Find-Business-Reviews/

Search for "MMO Art". If you feel you've been wronged, simply file a complaint. All of the complaints filed so far have been resolved, so you might have a chance of getting resolution yourself.

Any action beyond that would be legal, which is against the rules to discuss on the CoH forums

My dream is to one day make off with a large sum of money from you people.

Fortunately, the worst I ever did was think about shopping at MMO Art

I hope one day I will be so good of an artist that people will pay me not to do there artwork as well..

We should put these threads in the Guides section entitled "Precisely How NOT to Run Commissions" and be done with it! ^.^

Not to defend the situation, but even if Gil "finished" all the work. It could probably take him a year at best. A year of not getting paid to finish work he promised to do. Artist's, even mismanaging ones can't afford not to get paid. I'm not saying he did the right thing. A full cross the boards refund would be a good solution. It might even save his rep, what ever is left here that is... but who knows if he can afford to do that, is able to do that. Perhaps the money was spent... medical bills for his accident last year or so, or on new gear to support his new website. If it were me, the guilt would be gnawing at my bones. I was always amazed he could command such prices, it made me dream of being able to do so one day. But let's say only 5 commissions at $300 a piece? A possible $1500 worth of work due out there in virtual lala-land.... yoinks, that would put me in a coma!

Bah, it's about managing your time and not getting too far away from the money. He took on far too much in a short period of time.

I would hope that any artist here would learn from the example.

Problem as I've seen it is that the backlog of work doesn't take a year - it's been more than a year for most of that work BEFORE he started dogging his commissions.

Seriously, it is a comedy of errors on his part. He might be a great artist but right now I wouldn't pay ten bucks for anything from him because he *doesn't produce*. What someone's worth artistically speaking for commissions is not JUST reliant on the quality of their workmanship, it's also their professionalism.

He is not a professional artist. He is a scam artist, perhaps, at best, who can also draw. It's just very sad. I'm glad that I never had the inclination to be put on an already-complaining long waiting list to get something from him that I know I'd never see.

Well i originally made this thread to let people know that he and I were square. Though i can certainly relate to the frustrations of the masses.

I always wondered why an artist would spend any money from any commission until it was finished but it seems like that is what happened here. Making a new website and showing off new works other than the ones that he owes people is bad taste in my opinion. I can't believe some of the things i see from MMOart sometimes, it blows me away.

I think an all around refund would be the answer indeed, though i doubt he can afford that much money all at once. I would love to see him actually making an effort though, instead it's almost like he taunts people with the new stuff that isn't their commission. I know thats how i felt.

Anyways....

This is certainly an example of what NOT to do.

Don't you "Bah" at me! You keep your "Bahs" to yourself missy...

I wont even take payment on a commission until I know I can do it, I.E a first sketch that I am liking, having the money hanging over my head is just too daunting and I certainly don't charge *hes prices* I couldnt imagine that kind of pressure.

As Syrusb said you have to manage yourself. and another thing, you have to know yourself and accept your limitations. some artist's are heavily inspiration based so even if it seems to be flowing at one point, you never know when your going to hit the wall. if thats the way it is, you should work accordingly.

I initiated a BBB complaint against a business, early in this year. Within a month, the BBB had closed it as resolved when all they did was ask for a response from the business and copy/paste it to me. They in NO way resolved the issue. I wouldn't recommend a BBB complaint as they have no legal authority. If you DO wish to pursue a complaint, you may wish to look into a complaint at your local Federal courthouse, as interstate commerce fraud and wire/mail/internet fraud are Federal crimes. You'd be surprised how quickly someone will resolve a situation when they receive a letter of inquiry from an officer of a Federal court.

Out of all the folks he owes refunds/artwork, I imagine only a fraction are reading and posting on this particular board. Taking that into account, he could easily have many thousands of dollars of other folks' money, across however many games in which he became known. Can you envision groups of people playing WoW, DDO, DAoC, SWG, et cetera, who may all have the same issue with him (unpaid refunds/undelivered product)?

When you look at it that way, the scope of the issue...the LEGAL issue...could become enormous. The fact he's opened another website (kindredconcepts.com) and has the quote below in his "bio" says he fully intends to continue doing what he's been doing for years now. As the saying goes, the definition of insanity is doing something over and over and expecting it to come out differently.

His quote:

"While I still and will continue to do commissions for individual gamers..."

Jomaro... It will be different THIS time from the other times you've disappeared...HOW?

I popped my head on this forum by chance and noticed this thread. Got curious and read through it. Am shocked no one has posted this, normally I would not but the case here is very serious.

Unless the guy has moved, you can find full home address in his whois profile.

It seems the address has not changed from the time he registered mmoart.com and the time he registered kindredconcepts.com.

The profiles also list his phone number, both show the same number, but I would not be shocked if some one that has such a bad handle on money would have his number canceled and forced to change upon reactivation. Note his address is in an apartment complex, it's easy to move out of those.

I think this is the sole definition of ironic.

"Ahh thanks for contacting me here, and I apologize for not getting back to you sooner. I am not at home to go through our order logs, but what character was I creating for you? Also I definitely don't want you to walk away empty handed. I would love to do a single character sketch of any gaming toon you have now free of charge and I will get that to you with your full refund."

From facebook, no less.
