Veteran's reward discrepency

Hello everyone, I've got a slight problem, or at least a discrepency.

Aside from a couple months at the beginning of CoH's life, and a couple of days last year where I was out of town when my account was set to expire, I've been constantly subscribed to CoH.

So why is my veteran's reward time a month off?

42 months - Fervent Jul 1, 2008
45 months - Eternal Oct 7, 2008
48 months - Battle Hardened Jan 6, 2009
51 months - To Be Announced Apr 8, 2009
54 months - To Be Announced Jul 6, 2009
57 months - To Be Announced Nov 6, 2009

I should have gotten my next reward today, but it's a month off.

Any idea what could cause this? And furthermore, who should I contact to get this resolved?

It is for time served, not time bought.

I had the same reaction when mine was off by a month but it is time played served vs time payed.

But that's just it. I've been playing for ninety days since my last reward was earned. July 6th -> August 6th -> September 6th -> October 6th.

Heck, technically, I should have gotten the reward on October 4th.

did you have a lapse at all in the last 90 days? in other words, did your accont go inactive(unsubscribed) for a day or so?

Posted

Nope, I didn't. I paid for ninety days in June, and then when NC soft announced the bonus time, I bought another full year plus two months at the beginning of September, prior to the subscription lapsing.

Contact support. They'll fix it. Veteran rewards get screwed up fairly frequently, for the weirdest reasons.

It seems to me as if an actual person needs to go account-to-account and manually add the reward, based on how messed up so many people's rewards are.

Mine have always been awarded ±4 days of when they are supposed to be, though. I did send in a /petition once when it didn't hit when I thought it would, and I was awarded it the next day with the explanation that the system is based on the exact time you registered as well.

Got'cha.

Best way to do it: Petition or EMail?

I subscribed on the 1st of a month, and never unsubscribed or failed to pay up. I get the rewards on the 4th of the month the last few times. Maybe you'll get yours three days late too.

The first of what month?

On the Gregorian calendar, a month could be anywhere between 28 and 31 days long. A month, as far as Veteran Rewards goes, is always exactly 30 days.

Is this really true? I always thought it's the same day every month so if you started on an 11th and always stayed subbed vet rewards would be on the 11th. Guess you learn something new everyday.

Oh, thank goodness. I almost thought this was going to be another "I have a 5 year account, my new account deserve the rewards too!" or a "Why do vets get all the cool stuff?" post.

I like to be surprised by vet rewards. I don't look at when the next one is. I like to log on and then go "Sweet, another vet reward!" But if it's not awarding on time, do what others have already said and contact support.

Are you serious?

We have the Gregorian Calendar, the Julian Calendar, the federal Fiscal Year, and now the City of Heroes Veteran Reward Calendar? Why would such bizarre code be written? Is there some reason that February resulting in somone getting a Vet reward two days early is such a crisis they have to write their own unique calendar?

That's weird.

For the record, I subscribed December 1 of some prior year (2004 maybe?) and just got the 57-month Vet reward October 4th.

Not a computer programmer here, but could it be that it is easier to work with an unchanging schedule of 30 days than it is to program a cycle of 28,31,30,31,31,30, etc.?

...not to mention 29 -- but only every fourth year.

Yeah, I think that's basically the thought process behind ANYTHING using a static assumed-30-day calendar. And Sailboat, it's FAR from limited to only CoX (for example, some banking systems can be set to calculate loan interest based on a 12-month 30-day "year").

If they rolled their own calendar, yes. They shouldn't have to, though.

I've got a support ticket in now. There's 7 months between my 51 and 54 month vet rewards but I'm pretty sure I didn't take a 4 month break.

Be well, people of CoH.

The computer I'm working on right now, like every computer I've ever used, knows what day of the month it is due to its internal clock. Actual month, not imaginary 30-day month.

The computer is certainly capable of the math involved in accurate calendars. Pre-literate people who built Stonehenge could handle it.

They might have some reasons to use a strictly-30-day month, but "ease" and "computer limitations" and "makes intuitive sense" would not be among said reasons.

How about "except for people using 15-day time cards, everyone in the game is paying in 30-day blocks"?

And I think the 15-day time cards have been discontinued, too...

Really? Why is it set up that way, I wonder?

Just checked my account and billing summary, I'm paying '3 monthly' and looking at the billing dates it's truely monthly. 29th of every 3rd month. And my Vet rewards are happening to the callendar too:

13 Nov 2008, 12 Feb 2009, 14 May 2009, 13 Aug 2009

Working on 30 day months should have left me with the 12 month 5 days early come August.
