Malta

My understanding or it is that there can only be 1 sappers in a group, does that hold true even if you have virtual teamates?

The more people I meet, the more I'm beginning to root for the zombies.

Generally each Malta spawn should have 1 Sapper at most. i rarely see more than 1 Sapper for every 4 or 5 spawns, but it varies. Of course if your mission is spawning for 8 there may be closely grouped or overlapping spawns at some points on the map. And bugs have occasionally popped up in the spawning rules, but i haven't seen multiple Sappers in the same spawn for a long time now.

This. Even before i16, I would sometimes run into places where 2-5 groups would be so close you can't avoid aggroing multiples (I'm looking at YOU, T-junction with a balcony on the lab maps!), and you end up fighting multiple Sappers. But I can't recall multiple sappers in a single spawn, even on 8-man teams, in the 2+ years I've been around.

I occasionally see 2 sappers in a group, though it might just be 2 little groups near each other. But sappers really arent a big deal if you're paying attention. Just kill it first and move on.

Have your Stormer hit you with 02 Boost to prevent the big energy drain and then they really won't be a big deal. There always seems to be one of those little swine popping out of nowhere, but if the sapping does not drain you, then it is much easier to clobber him.

A followup observation.

The other night I was playing a Stormer in a group of 8, and they did not want to wait for a quick 02 Boost before running to the next mob of Malta. Please understand that I am not saying that they all had to gather and line up, blah blah blah, just wait until I hit you before you personally run into the next group. Very important for whoever was going to get the initial aggro, and I always started with them... if they had not already run off. I still would hit all of the team in succession as best I could, but some of them still got drained because they would run out of range, etc.

Oh Well. I ain't their Mama. It is their choice not to wait and take their chances, and I am fine with that. But running through mobs like a hot knife through butter sure works better when your End is not all drained away.

Or for better results send your trusty Energy Aura brute or Stalker to cream them. My NRG brute loves malta more then nothing else. There is a certain satisfaction to sneaking into a group then creaming the sapper with Rage + Knockout Blow, the flattening the first with footstomp. Even if they manage to end drain you, well revenge with Energy Drain fixes that.

Or Electric Armor Brute/Scrapper/Tank. End drain? There's such a thing as end drains?

My bf's first character was an electric brute. He actually said the above ("There's such a thing as end drains?") when he made another character that didn't have end drain resistance. "Oooh. So that's why you guys are always cursing Malta!"

I had sadly already experienced the horror of a defender with Malta before I played my brute high enough.

The mezzes, they NEVER END.

The end drain was really only a cursory issue when you're stunned/held/slowed for a minute or so (feels like an eternity). Revenge was sweet on my NRG Brute.

While there may not be more than one Sapper in a group, there's another issue that crops up with Malta on enhanced settings, particularly if solo. I can't remember their exact name, but one of the more common Lts makes regular use of a Taser attack from melee range, and that has a hefty end drain. There may be only one Sapper, but 2 or 3 of those guys hitting you is almost as bad.

I don't play villains, but I will seriously consider a "redeemed" Brute just to cream some Malta solo while laughing off their sapping as you note.

I've bookmarked it for instant smiles. It's the perfect remedy from a terrible day in the hospital yesterday.

The bookmark is labeled "OMG LEMUR TICKLES".
