Kheldian power pools.. Why?

Ok so I've had this WS that I finally got to level 50 after a 4 year hiatus with him. That being said I want to build him up so that he can be good but I don't want to have to spend purple money on him if I don't have to.

Seeing that a few of you have dedicated yourselves to the ins and outs of the kheldian I have a few questions for you.

1. What power pools do you take? I guess that you are taking pools to fit set IO's in, but do you also take power pools for the powers themselves? Why do you choose one pool over another?

2. Aside from recharge, what sorts of bonuses do you try to get for your build (or more specifically a tri-form build)?

3. For a toon like the one I want do you have any Mids (new version plz) suggestions simply b/c I'm lazy? It seems most of you tend to slot powers themselves over Dark Nova/Dwarf.

4. Are there any proc's or other IO's that despite the cost are essential/ Very highly recommended as they make the kheldian "that much more" to play?

Thanks guys for your help. I'll be trolling the boards and keep looking at the other build threads also..

I always get knockback protection, preferably a level 10 Steadfast for Absorption. If I still felt like I was getting knocked around I would toss in a Karma KB Prot into Shadow Cloak.

I always add Performance Shifter +end to Nova and Dwarf as low a level as possible plus an End Mod from it to get 5% movement increase from each.

I like to toss Devastation Chance to Hold in my ranged attacks.

I've been putting in at least 2 LotG Recharges, though I could probably work in 4 easily.

I get Lockdown Chance for +2 Mag Hold for Gravity Well.

I 4 slot Impervium Armor as much as possible to get the extra endurance, recovery and Psionic defense and by using the IA: Psionic Resistance I don't let Carnies get me down.

Apart from those I look for ways to boost my health and my damage through set bonuses.

But I tend to be in the forms and pop to human to mire and gravity well and stygian circle so I focus my form attacks on actually doing damage.

Also I would add I think Ragnarok Chance for Knockdown is relatively cheap and nice for either of the Nova AoE attacks.

total kick to the gut

This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.

The good news is that you can reach even the heights of perma-Eclipse without purple sets. The only thing purple sets bring extra is that with larger recharge bonus' they let you free up a few slots.

I don't think many people take pools to fit sets in, Warshades are best concentrating most of their slots into key powers and just using power pools that don't need slotting.

In my case I went for the medicine pool, hasten (A must), superspeed, combat jumping (LoTG holder), superjump, and some of the stealth pool for more LoTG holding goodness. All those powers only have their standard slot, but I use them a lot and spend most of my movement time using SS + SJ, I use the rez from the medicine pool a lot and even grant invis gets use on MO runs or when ghosting.

Recharge is the way to go imho until at least perma-Eclipse (You know that - but it is worth reiterating).

After that there are some that go for ranged defence if they spend time in Nova, and some that go for +damage, but personally once I got the level of recharge I wanted I just frankenslotted the rest of the powers so I could have good numbers. I don't find any other set bonus' worth it at the levels you can get.

About to leave work so can't yet. This also vastly depends on how you prefer to play.

Some kind of -KB IO, just to prevent you being blasted out before you can get Eclipse off, and then personally I always try and fit the purple damage procs in where I can. Even if you aren't going to fork out for a while purple set I think the procs are so awesome I wouldn't miss them. Especially the chance for fire damage in Black Dwarf Mire.

I remember a guide about the Dancing Warshade. I loved the guide (not only was it written well. It was funny as all heck). So I tried to mirror that guide. I found I liked the play style and it has taught me how to play the WS somewhat effectively.

I do appreciate the responses so far. Keep up the posting as I'm sucking it all in.

Here's my build for my triform shade: It's definitely not cheap, but it's a ton of fun. I realize it's not quite what you were asking for, but it only took me a few seconds to post it so I figured, why not.

What makes this build so different from the more typical is the lack of Hasten and the widespread leveraging of Recharge Debuffing (via Pacing of the Turtle proc). There's "enough" recharge reduction in the build to allow powers to cycle "effectively" for attack chains without being wasteful (ie. powers sitting in the tray recharged but unused due to animation times). This makes the attack chains relatively efficient in terms of allocation of resources. And best of all, it makes use of only a single purple IO (for Dark Extraction), which makes it cheaper overall than many other builds to fund.

Human form ... CONTROLS(!) ...
Nova form ... BLASTS ...
Dwarf form ... SCRAPTANKS ...

With a Tanker on the team grabbing aggro, I can stay in human form and shadow the Tanker with Orbiting Death and Inky Aspect running ... making the Tanker's life so much easier while simultaneously dishing out a surprising amount of damage through Orbiting Death. This lets the Tanker (and the rest of the team) focus on the "heavy" threats (LTs and Bosses) first ... and if the tide of battle begins to shift against us, I can always shift to either Nova or Dwarf forms as needed to allow my team to regain the initiative.

With Shadow Cloak, Nebulous Form, a Stealth IO (in Sprint) and Shadow Recall ... I can help a team "ninja" a mission with a remarkably high degree of safety, even in lower level Task Forces.

And best of all, I can go full bore constant attack in Nova or Dwarf form and not have to worry (much at all) about endurance issues. Simply using the Black Dwarf Antagonize in the attack rotation is enough to bring my endurance usage very close to the break even point (if not slightly positive, situation depending) ... which allows me to Scrank quite effectively in Dwarf form (and have for multiple Task Forces where I was the only "tank" protecting 6-7 squishies).

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...

Thank you all for the replies and suggestions. For right now I'm dumbing down Mr_Enigma's build. I see he has some great stuff in there. I'm keeping the non-damage purples and I'll try to get all 4... yes four LotG Recharge speeds.

Accuracy and damage are up with a little reslotting into Hasten to give me a 183.8% with hasten up. I think with dancing between forms I'll be able to keep it up for a good amount.

The build will still run over 1 billion, but that is acceptable considering one damage type purple set can run you into the Billion category alone.

@ Redlynne: Thank you for your build and even more so for your take on why you made your build. I've saved it and will be looking at it in the future or maybe even as the alternate build for the character. I like how wou choose to make each form stand on it's own, and that way you are useful no matter what form you are in.

so as a partial answer to the question in the first tread.
One power pool to contemplate taking is the:

Concealment pool simply for slotting Luck of the Gambler. For the same reason people also take the

Jump pool for Combat jumping, and the

Speed pool for both Hasten (which is preetty much an all archtype Standard) and for also getting superspeed as both a travel form and also to hold a stealth (if it can still)

I take Grant Invisibility on my WS to be able to hide the fluffies... always makes me laugh when the enemies seem to not know what hit them when I de-stealth into Dwarf-form in their midst but my fluffies are already hitting them hard.

Same here, on both my PB and WS actually. For my PB I found the Presence Pool very helpful as I can now fear Bosses, but for my WS it feels like an overkill. The Medicine Pool is also a favorite as I can help with healing/rezzing people as well as use Stimulate on them so they'd get mezzed less often.

Yeah. For me, the real challenge was to find a way to make the forms different enough that they wouldn't be "stepping on each others' toes" as far as schtick and capabilities were concerned. It is, in fact, the reason why I chose to play a Warshade *first* (to 50 as it turns out) before trying my hand at a Peacebringer. With the Peacebringer, I just couldn't wrap my mind around the fact that the three (or four, if you count Light Form) form are essentially all doing the same thing with lots of overlap ... and the ancilliary effects (Defense Debuff and Knockback) just really weren't my cuppa tea. The Warshade however was OBVIOUSLY different in the different forms ... starting with the fact that you can't Fly without Nova. Where the Peacebringer has too much overlap (imo), the Warshade had plenty of "individuality" in its forms to make each one distinct, unique and special ... which made the Warshade easier for me to understand.

And yeah, it is *nice* to have a build that can be EFFECTIVE in just about any team ... including teams of one! Where the Peacebringer feels like a hammer (and every situation is just yet another nail), the Warshade feels like a swiss army knife ... with a tool for every occasion. Even Starless Step makes for a very nice non-Line of Sight pulling tool for those situations where you've got a handy corner and don't feel like eating alpha ... even if your target is "too heavy" to move to you, you'll still "get their attention" and they'll come after you (right into the ambush prepared for them by your team!).

Peacebringers teach you tactics.
Warshades teach you strategy ... and logistics!

It's the end. But the moment has been prepared for ...
