If a CoH movie were actually made, what story should it tell?

Then if that film makes money the second and/or third movies could tackle the modern era Freedom Phalanx in the Rikti War with Hero 1, or the war on Drugs/Superadine (plus Superadine link to alternate realities leading to Dr Webb’s expedition and the Reichsman invasion as climax), or the Praetorians, or anything else that would prove too expensive and too big for the debut/origin movie.

I would so watch that, so long as it was carried out well.
I still say they should get Weta and the likes of Peter Jackson to do it!

Raises an interesting question... who would you say would be the best director for this gig?

Some no-name director that might have only done shampoo commercials before. It worked for The Cell!

For 'my' take on doing a 'faces of the city' style movie: After seeing this one, I have to go with David Mamet. John Frankenheimer's unfortunately left us, but Michael Mann is still around. He'd be a wee bit out of his usual style, but not out of his depth.

Both of them can spin an action movie that never loses sight of its story and allow their stars to each have their moment. Just need to keep Mann from signing Jaime Fox for anything.

CG would be a strong possibility for both.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch all of the CoX trailers and keep on dreaming.
Actually, I had an idea for this, basically, the series would involve fairly cut and past heroes builds/origins with one of each of the five ATs (later introduce one of the HEATs, I vote Warshade since girls would love a dark, brooding, but cute guy in the series). It would start out with Tanker (Place holder names for their ATs will be used), who is a mutant origin Invul/SS tank entering city hall to get his hero license and briefly get accosted by this rude and hot tempered girl (Scrapper, Nat MA/SR) and when they're suddenly confronted by a bunch of hellions, both easily dispatch of them, Tanker then gets his license and moves on to his first mission which would take up the rest of the Episode.
As the series moves on, each of the ATs are introduced, and the season finale would foreshadow Breakout which would open the second with the introduction of the Villains who follow the same pattern of their group as the heroes (though perhaps they would have unusual origin/powerset makeups in contrast to the heroes). The second season would feature on and off clashes between the two, starting with the villains racking up some credibility by striking some good victories and just when the heroes seem to gain a final say, the villains get two Arachnos Liaisons forced into their villain group (introduction of the VEATs) to "get them back on track with operation: DESTINY."

Yadda, yadda. yadda, can you tell I put way too much thought into this?

Also, cameo appearences from heroes and villains of various PCs in the game.

Honestly as a 'fun' movie, a zombie apocalypse but with super powered beings would be fun, and one I may actually go see.

For a serious movie, I'm with the 'new hero' camp. It would be interesting to see the structure of CoH from a new hero's perspective. And we come in contact with the Freedom Phalanx quite a bit, but as the game stands now...we do more than they do for everyday crime fighting. It makes more sense to have a new hero who is actually hitting the streets everyday. It'd be an Everyman play, but with super heroes.

If we went with Epic Film, I'd go with Hero 1's story. It gets me in the gut everytime. Hell, don't make it a double feature, and have him die halfway through, then have a group of heroes run the LGTF for the second half of the movie, so for the climatic scene you can Hero 1 being taken down for his own good. Tear jerker, semi-twist, traditional epic tale, it'd be a great story to consolidate into 3 hours or less, and you can include the blankity-blank Freedom Phalanx without getting bogged down in 'here is generic epic hero team that can beat anything together. Hurrah.' You have many alien fights, lots of fun effects, and can have both the main heroes (first half during the set up for sacrifice of Omega Team) and then newcomers (second half--perhaps the idea of new heroes coming to pick up the mantle of the big dogs).

I actually prefer the idea of 'City of Heroes: The series' compared to a movie.

Admittedly I'd love an animated series ala Justice League since that allows for more special effects to be used and on a significantly cheaper budget than a full blown movie.

Also it would allow for competitions to have a 'cameo' in the series.

This would get my vote -- I liked their story!

...This. I knew I loved Zortel for a reason.

Mind you, having them mentor a n00b would be highly entertaining - especially if they get off the train at the wrong stop and attempt to Brawl the inhabitants of Steel Canyon.

Also: I am to be played by Pauley Perrette and get all the good wisecracks. ciao

Is it time for the dance of joy yet?

As much as I love Hickman's arc, I have to jump on this bandwagon. THIS is what I would like to see movie-ized.

True, you'd want to save Polanski for a Teen Titans movie.

I'd say Peter Jackson, or Frank Miller. For shear volume of Epic.

I havent read the thread to see if someone has suggested this, but I'd want to go with either the Dr Vahz story that you play through at lower levels, or else the Clockwork King stories (the low level one where you learn about whats going on with the clockwork).
