Zoom question

Hello everyone, I have just returned to CoH/CoV after a several year leave. I am having a problem with zooming in and out from my character. I used to use the wheel mouse for that. I find the wheel mouse easier to use then the keyboard for this.

The problem I am having is, that I have to really spin the wheel mouse really fast to zoom in and out. Other games it works just fine and is very responsive, CoH is the only game this is happening on.

I looked in the options and controls area and couldn't find anything. Is there a wheel mouse sensitivity setting somewhere that I may have missed?

As far as I know, zoom in and out never had any settings. There is a Menu-->Options-->Controls-->Mouse-->"Mouse Scroll Speed" options, but that was added to allow vertical scrolling in an items list window and it doesn't affect zoom speed.

That setting affects all mouse scroll options, I believe, including camera zoom.

That setting affects only the chat scrolling. Camera zoom is the same for me on a scroll speed of 1 as it is on 400.

So, it seems there is no option for me then..hmm, that kinda sucks. I will take a look at my mouse drivers and see if I can speed up the scrolling. Thanks to those that replied

My August Sirs,

I have a simular problem. My scroll wheel does nothing to my view of my character. It works fine in the chat window, rolls up, rolls down. But swing the cursor into the character action window and the mouse wheel is just index finger exercise.

My local computer situation is; Intel core 2 quad, 2GB, on a nVidia MOBO with nVidia 8800 GTS GPU. I have cable directly into a dedicated modem and get 1879 MB/S.

I just installed Windows 7 before this started to happen. [I remember XP, when everything worked.]

My mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000. I have worked the variable options in both the mouse and in the game. The Keybinds section of Options has variables called Zoom In and Zoom Out. Mine are, and have always been, unassigned and I assume that they are vestige variables of legacy releases. This drives me crazy! Which is not a long trip really LOL.

Why is the UI, which runs the character action screen, ignoring input from the mouse scroll wheel? How do I fix it?

Regards,
Jack Noir

Look in the in-game Menu -> Options -> Key mapping & Controls tab, and look for camera controls.

My August Sirs,

Thanks for the quick responce Rajani. If you notice in my post, I have already been to Options>Keymapping and found 'Zoom-in' and 'Zoom-out' which are usless. If there are others I have missed I would love to hear about them.

The zoom in/out is more for keyboard. This is a far cry, but try setting your rotate camera to the middle mouse button. The only reason I suggest this is because I do not have ANY zoom in/out keybinds set, yet I do have rotate set to middle mouse and I'm able to zoom in and out by default.

It is NOT a result of ANY settings in CoH. I have the same issue: My scroll wheel is really slow, if it has any effect at all, for zooming the camera, but scrolls at a reasonable speed in chat windows, and in any other program. However, before my old mouse broke, the scroll wheel worked fine for everything, including zooming the camera. Also, when I plug in my backup mouse, it ALSO works fine in all parts of the game. Both my old mouse and my backup mouse are Logitech. My new mouse is a Microsoft mouse. I suspect that the culprit is something in the mouse drivers, or the program which controls the dynamic mouse functions.

Whatever the source of the problem is, adjusting settings in the game will NOT fix it.

My August Sirs,

Thank you. did not think to blame the fancy wireless microsoft mouse. I have always been a big fan of the "if you can wire it, do" credo. Dont know what I was thinking.

I will post back here when I find out how another type of mouse works.

My August Sirs,

It appears that Micosoft Mouse wheel controls, at least on wireless hookups, do not function for Zoom-in Zoom-out. That may be too broad that all Microsoft wheels dont send the right signals but if your having trouble with ZOOM you should check your mouse first. I have a very new wireless 5000 and the wheel just dont do nutn in the COH play window.

As Roderick suggested I hooked up my backup mouse and it work as advertized from the get-go. My backup mouse is a Wheel Mouse Optical using USB conection from Microsoft. Makes me suspcious about the wireless reciever and the interpretation software. So I am with you on that too Roderick.

I wonder if Staples is still open so I can get a mouse. My backup stinks LOL.

My wife had zooming issues a few weeks ago. The only thing that fixed it, other than buying a new mouse, was to uninstall the driver that came with the mouse and used the Windows default mouse driver. Works perfectly now.
