My August Sirs,
As a follow up to my recent questions about the Incarnate Create screen. My problem was caused by the fact that I had already created the second level Musculature several weeks earlier. It turns out that the Create screen requires that you remember the association of enhancement names to the corresponding levels. It will open the create screen for anything, even if you already have that enhancement. The only visual clue in the Create screen is the enhacement that you have is slightly brighter than the other enhancements which are unlocked at that level.
Suggestion: when you select or mouse over a enhancement that you already have the text in the information panel to the right is dimmed indicating that you can not flipping do this one. -
My August Hopeling,
THAT WAS IT! I must have made the second level Musculature some time back. Sheesh.
Thanks -
My August Sirs,
Let me start by saying I have read as many post as I can find on my topic and I have tried everything I can think of before posting here.
I am trying to create a second level enhancment in the Alpha slot. I want to craft the second level Musculature and eventually the third level to get the status change. I have obtained all of the salvage required for the Musculature second level and the colors of the text in the Create screen have changed for everything but the required first level enhancement. Now here is the rub, I HAVE the first level enhancement. I can slot it and it shows up in my Powers table. The Incarnate Create screen just does not recognize it.
I also have the first level Cardiac enhancement for my Alpha slot. The Incarnate Create screen WILL recognize the first level Cardiac enhancement and I could make the second level Cardiac, but I don't want that. I have been working under the assumption that maybe the Incarnate Create screen only sees the Cardiac enhancement (first occurance in table or something).
Why does the Create screen not see my Musculature first level enhancement?
I have tried switching toons and comming back.
I have tried login off and back on.
I have tried rebooting (hey, stranger things)
I have attempted to delete the Cardiac enhancement but there is no way to do this that I have found.
I have unslotted all of my Incarnate slots and while doing that learned about "remove this enhancement from tray" option on the right click menu.
I have slotted Musculature, and then slotted Cardiac, and then unslotted both.
None of this does anything. The Create screen does not see my Musculature first level enhancement which is required to create the second level enhancement.

My August Robotech,
Yes, I can slot it into Alpha and it shows in Powers.
Still, after logging the toon out, logging back in, and leaving COH and comming back; Create Musculature will not recognize the first lvl enhancement but will recognize the first lvl Cardiac.
Aahhhhhaaaaa -
My August Sirs,
Having a problem here. I am trying to create a second lvl Alpha slot in Musculature. But I have two first lvl Alpha enhancements (I built Cardiac as well). The Create screen for Musculature does not recognize tht the first lvl Musculature enhacement exists. When I switch to the Cardiac Create screen it does recognize the first lvl enhancement.
I want to make a second lvl Musculature ( and then the third for lvl change).
Can I delete the first lvl Cardiac somehow?
Is this a bug? You should be able to have two different enhancements for the same incarnate power or the "Slot Power" function is, well, lame. -
My August Sirs,
It appears that Micosoft Mouse wheel controls, at least on wireless hookups, do not function for Zoom-in Zoom-out. That may be too broad that all Microsoft wheels dont send the right signals but if your having trouble with ZOOM you should check your mouse first. I have a very new wireless 5000 and the wheel just dont do nutn in the COH play window.
As Roderick suggested I hooked up my backup mouse and it work as advertized from the get-go. My backup mouse is a Wheel Mouse Optical using USB conection from Microsoft. Makes me suspcious about the wireless reciever and the interpretation software. So I am with you on that too Roderick.
I wonder if Staples is still open so I can get a mouse. My backup stinks LOL.

Quote:My August Sirs,It is NOT a result of ANY settings in CoH. I have the same issue: = = = = = Also, when I plug in my backup mouse, it ALSO works fine in all parts of the game. Both my old mouse and my backup mouse are Logitech. My new mouse is a Microsoft mouse. I suspect that the culprit is something in the mouse drivers, or the program which controls the dynamic mouse functions.
Whatever the source of the problem is, adjusting settings in the game will NOT fix it.
Thank you. did not think to blame the fancy wireless microsoft mouse. I have always been a big fan of the "if you can wire it, do" credo. Dont know what I was thinking.
I will post back here when I find out how another type of mouse works.

My August Sirs,
Thanks for the quick responce Rajani. If you notice in my post, I have already been to Options>Keymapping and found 'Zoom-in' and 'Zoom-out' which are usless. If there are others I have missed I would love to hear about them.

My August Sirs,
I have a simular problem. My scroll wheel does nothing to my view of my character. It works fine in the chat window, rolls up, rolls down. But swing the cursor into the character action window and the mouse wheel is just index finger exercise.
My local computer situation is; Intel core 2 quad, 2GB, on a nVidia MOBO with nVidia 8800 GTS GPU. I have cable directly into a dedicated modem and get 1879 MB/S.
I just installed Windows 7 before this started to happen. [I remember XP, when everything worked.]
My mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 5000. I have worked the variable options in both the mouse and in the game. The Keybinds section of Options has variables called Zoom In and Zoom Out. Mine are, and have always been, unassigned and I assume that they are vestige variables of legacy releases. This drives me crazy! Which is not a long trip really LOL.
Why is the UI, which runs the character action screen, ignoring input from the mouse scroll wheel? How do I fix it?

Quote:My August Sirs,It's not necessary to run AVG as well. In fact, it's pretty much redundant. No need to bloat your system with 2 softwares that do the same thing.
Thank you for clarifing my confusing statement. I tested the packages separatly.

Quote:My August Sir,Since you don't mention it specifically, did you upgrade your video drivers? .
Yes I have a nVidia 8800 GTX and I make sure that baby gets fed from nVidia right after the MOBO gets updated.
By the way, I tested Microsoft Secuty Essecials and AVG Free with the COH - Windows 7 combination. They worked great, What problem? However, Computer Associates dosen't.

My August Sirs,
This is to inform this thread that I have tested Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG Free as security software with COH and Windows 7; they both work well. I run in Admin mode as well.
Computer Associates does not work at all.

Quote:My August Sir,If you would like to fix your problem rather than switching (although I would suggest switching anyway. The only thing worse than CA is McAffee), you should be able to set an exception to ignore COHUPDATER.EXE and CITYOFHEROES.EXE. It wouldn't surprise me if you still had problems, just because of CA's crappy suite, but it is something to try. Also, make sure that when CA installed, that it disabled the Windows Firewall. Sometimes it doesn't do that, and you end up with a loop where the two firewalls are blocking each other.
Tks Adar. And CA use to be, to be, so ok.
I have set every ignore Coh and Up-Coh I could find and all it did was change the way things splattered against the wall.
If you have not seen it (and I dont recomend it) CA software have used the "baffle'm with bull" technique by changing the entire UI to the product and restricting access to the machinery. This also gives you the "easy to use" - "impossible to figure out" paradox. Where's my mace?
Good advice about the firewalls, like Kings, a multitude of firewalls is not a good thing.

I have a new install of Windows 7 and its good, it was the third try.
I have COH loaded. It launches, updates the SW, loads, and opens the game. This is good, but there is no security software on the system other than what Microsoft put into Windows 7.
If I load my secruity software, Computer Associates Security Suite Plus 2009, and then start the game a very different thing happens. COH launches and will update SW but as soon as load starts it black-screens. It gives me errors like "you do not have a keyboard". Trust me on this I have a keyboard.
Practical solutions;
1. find other security software companies who are doing a better job at servicing the game environment. If you have suggestions please post, I am getting a divorce from CA!
2. find a work around with in the game its self.

My August Sirs,
This is an important qustion as Windows 7 comes upon us.
Windows 7, from personal experience, changes the way AVs deal with COH. If I uninstall Computer associates Security Suite Plus everything is perfect. When I install, and turn all scans turned off, COH black screens on load.
I am looking for a new AV with a 'game' mode too. All my other applications seem to be unaffected by the CA software when it is installed. It is the plague for any game I try to run and I have gone back into it with a machette and tryed to hand chop and slash and... well you see.

My August Sirs,
These are confusing times Shecky.
The version of Windows 7 I am using is the "upgrade from Vista and oh by the way XP too" version.
The instructions talk about formating the partition before instalation for XP and use the 'custom' option, which I did on my initial trial, but that resulted in a build which was unable to handle COH launch screens. By rebuilding a latest and greatest XP first and upgrading from that (which the Windows 7 install package did without a hick-up) I was able to run the launch screen, software update, launch COH, and join the game with the HIGH/low UI issues stated earlier.
Then I loaded my security software and tryed COH again, the COH launch worked, it forced a new software download, but during the load of COH I got a black screen.
My problem is in the intereaction of my secruity software, by Computer Associates, and the current version of the game. When I uninstalled the CA software... everything was perfect.
So your work is done with this issue in this thread. Do we get XP points? Oh I cant believe I pun'ed that.

My August Sirs,
The analytic tools come out.
Last time this happened I had to build a new computer.
I am not gonna die am I Doc?
I will get them up right away.

My August Sirs (gender neutral),
You are right DJ it does make a difference to my problem to run in Admin, the launch screen does exactly the same thing but I dont have to get the Task Manager out to remove it, the close buttons work.
It turns out that I did look at the other postings and realized that the problem was with the XP version I was updating from, I was using a new disk and had slapped on a barebones version of XP to start from. So I formated and redelivered XP, service pack 2 next, and three hits of Windows Updater. This time when I installed Windows 7, COH-updater would launch and it would download the new version and start COH proper, which loaded and ran.
I am a happy guy right?
When I finished loading drivers and security software (Computer Associates), updater will launch with a lot of machette work in the background on the CA software. But when COH loads it tells me that I need a DirectX 8 or later, I have just installed DX-10 and that I have no keyboard, trust me on this, I have a keyboard.
Pardon me for starting in the middle, I run;
nVidia MOBO with intel Core2 Quad and 2 GB of ram
nVidia 8800 GTX GPU
Logitech G13 game controller and multi channel sound through Yamaha

My August Sirs,
Your responces got me thinking and I realized that trying to run an update from an XP version which is a bare bones XP on a new drive was causing my problems with the launch screen not coming up. So I ripped everything apart and started over, full install of XP, service pack, and three hits of Windows Update. Then I installed Windows 7 over that and it worked sort-of. COH-updater would launch and update my software. But after Security software (Computer Associates) and something going wrong with the way COH wants to see the graphic cards COH black screened during load. Message says that I have to have Direct X 8 or later. I just installed DX-10. It says I dont have a keyboard. Trust me on this, I have a keyboard.
What the heck is going on?

My August Sirs,
I swiched to Windows 7, really tired of XP I guess,
*background singers* dont know what you got...
I have a 32bit machine and use a RELESE version of Win7-home premium. I loaded COH into its own partition, from the "Good vs Evil" DVD. When launched the first time, the COH Updater download the current version which seemed to load normally.
COH does not suport Windows 7, at all, on my configuration. When you attemp to launch it locks up fast and ugly. Have to trundle the Task Manager out to scrape it off the desktop.
I have; No Router, "forced the port numbers" as recommended by COH support (my favorite), cleaned and reinstalled 'framwork3.5 .net', and loaded Aion with its new launcher. The dog won't hunt, and now I have to remove Aion not being a farie gammer.

My August Sirs,
COH does not support my Windows 7 machine.
The launch screen won't.
The launch screen locks up very fast and ugly, have to trundle out the Task Manager to scrape it off the desktop. I just reinstalled COH on my 32bit machine which has been running COH for three years. Aion won't launch either, but no one cares about that really.
My contact with support has been... arms length. They suggested visits to webpages which have arcane solutions for XP and Vista problems. "force the port number" is my favorite. I implemented all of the recomendation.
City of Heroes is not launching on my machine, ergo not supported. I am 4 days out in rl and counting. I think a more industrious effort to be ready for a new operating system would have been far superior to "lets make my fire troller pink".

I have never had that search function find anything I put into it. Useless, Next idea?

Your August Sirs,
What a disaster. Write your own power level farm? Well that changed the game didn't it?
