go for a DM/Shield if you have the inf, DM/SR if you're cash strapped.

If your friend has an optimized build, why not ask him for the details?
Finally, without knowing what powers you have/like, it's hard to make recommendations for how to tweak your build. There is no 'one most powerful build', if there were this would be City of Clones, or City of Cookie-cutters.

Regen doesn't really fall into the realm of godlike, does it? Considering the levels of def that are needed and can be generated from SR, SD, or Invic on a lesser note.

For some reason I have my Doubts it was 4 Fully Fledged AVs then. Not even an IO'd Build could take that punishment since any two attacks in a row from them would drop the Regen.
And with the above post, Val enters the "you do such awesome stuff people can't believe you did it even with proof available" club. Congratulations !

I have seen regens drop like a stone in the face of AVs, but I do not normally have that issue; I figure its due to making sure DP is up and my Sm/Le resists.

Indeed, I had heard that already, and I'm curious as to which AVs he chose to fight. I included two ranged attackers to make sure I was getting periodic damage along with spiky melee damage, so people couldn't be like "It was zero skill and all DA", but to do four at once without DA... that's quite a feat.
And let's not even mention Nihilii doing 6 at once...
jeff plays on virtue atm with a claws/regen and ice/em blaster (met him in game and he told me about soloing avs)

And yeah, Val's build (by Umbral) is indeed "full strength retard strong". Best Regen build I've seen so far, definitely better than mine, and would be my starting point if I ever get around to bringing Werner's build up to date. But there are a lot of builds for other combinations floating around out there with better crowd survivability and damage. It's all a matter of what you're after.
