Yes I just scratched it off. the only reason I tried to use it is because they sent me to the give me money page. They give you no option to do anything but go back a page or give them more money. To me this is just a racket to steal money.

Question: What does trying to use a time card have to do with NCsoft NOT honoring the boxed version and letting me have the time I paid for when I bought the game?

If you're positive the time card hasn't been used and you're entering it correctly and still getting "invalid code" (you are entering it in the right spot, yes?) then your ONLY option is to contact customer support, by phone if it's within your capability to do so.

Yes, if you send them an email you will get an automated response. Make sure you're clear about what you're trying to do... look how long it took us to figure out what the problem was.

"I have a time card, but when I enter it, it says invalid code". Wait for a real person to get back to you rather than the automated response. CS does have the capability of "fixing" code errors. I ran into something similar with a code that had Bs and 8s reversed.

You have to give them time to respond though, and since we're going into a weekend, it likely won't be instantaneously.

You may not be that close to your bro... just a thought.
Why don't they honor the time card?

You CAN have your 30 months free IF you enter a payment source. As has been stated several times, you can enter a CC number and immediately cancel the subscription, your CC will not be charged.

It has ALWAYS been this way. Prove you can pay, then you can play.

You're the one saying it says "invalid code", which is something only Customer Support can fix (see my previous post about customer support).

You sure that's actually a time card and not a trial card?

They will honor it once you activate the account.

For future reference, the card you got with GvE isn't a time card. It's a retail code. It doesn't function the same as a time card. It doesn't count as a time card. A time card is a completely separate item.

I have experience with this problem, you have to have CC. Time cards only work after you give them a CC number. You can do nothing without a valid CC number, it's the "invalid" part of the message he got. It was saying "you have no valid CC number" too bad they don't just come out and say this, instead of leading you to believe you can start playing without a CC number. The entire page is useless except for the CC number part. All the time card BS, is just that BS, you can't successfully enter a time card code unless you first sign up with a CC, then go back and enter the time card code after you have given them a CC number.

In short: No CC number, No play No way, No how. They could eliminate confusion by using 6 words on the page (No Credit Card? Go away).

You don't need a credit card to activate your account, you just need some way to prove that you can continue with the account after the upgrade to retail. This includes a paypal account, a credit card, or a time card (*NOT* a retail code for a game box, *A TIME CARD* or *A GAME CARD* (which is an expanded time card).)

I have personally upgraded a trial account to a retail account with a box code and a time card.

I have seen Game time cards not work. $20 ones and $15 ones. I admit I have never had a Paypal account so it may work but I doubt it. I would have to see it to believe it. Just like the Time card deal, I have seen it. It will not work unless you have a CC. I know this for a fact, I have bought the time cards at best buy. You can't get NCsoft to acknowledge that you have the game until you use a CC. So using a time card cannot be done, the web site will give you "Invalid" all day long until you come up with a CC. It's just that simple it physically cannot be done.

What do you do when "use" a time card to open a "new" account? I would like to see that.

It was posted earlier in this thread, you have show you can pay. NCsoft does not view Time Cards brought at the store as proof that you can pay. You can have a stack of 100 cards it makes no difference you can't get the web site add the game to your account unless you have a CC. If you have no game in the "accounts" section you can't add time to it. It is not there, no game, no CC, no play. I stand by my comments.

You need a CC to start playing, CC or go away.

Time cards do show proof you can pay. You had to pay to buy it (or someone did, even if you got it as a gift). Therefore, NCsoft accepts that.

What do I do? I put a retail box code in, then I put a time card code in, then it updates the account from a trial account to a retail account.

I know for a fact that the GAME CARD (not the time card) works to either create or upgrade an account, regardless of what your experience is. I have done both in the past.

I would assume the same would work for creating a new account instead of upgrading from a trial, but I don't have the slush money available to randomly create accounts just for your benefit. If you'd like to give me $20, I'll do it. Otherwise, simply, "no."

You do know that you still need a RETAIL BOX CODE in order to upgrade/create, right? Just the TIME CARD doesn't work. A GAME CARD includes a retail box code, so a GAME CARD works. A TIME CARD does not.

1.) Time cards do show proof you can pay. You had to pay to buy it (or someone did, even if you got it as a gift). Therefore, NCsoft accepts that.

Of course they show proof someone can pay, I know that, NCsoft just doesn't know it so they will not accept it as proof.

2.) I know for a fact that the GAME CARD (not the time card) works to either create or upgrade an account, regardless of what your experience is. I have done both in the past.

I have seen it not work, I have seen it only work when you put in a CC number, only after that did the game show up in the account. If the game does not show up in the account you can't:
1.)add time
2.)play the game
3.)activate it
4.)use a trial account (that I have never used or tried to use)
You can do nothing. Why? Let me see... Oh yeah Ncsoft does Not recognize anything but a CC number to set up an account for COH.

Also what is with all this "upgrade/Trial Account" stuff, I repeat there was NO GAME in the account, the account was started that day. Geez let go of it.

3.) You do know that you still need a RETAIL BOX CODE in order to upgrade/create, right? Just the TIME CARD doesn't work. A GAME CARD includes a retail box code, so a GAME CARD works. A TIME CARD does not.

OMG What part of

don't you get? He had just installed a boxed game. Used the RETAIL BOX CODE and could not get NCSoft to recognize the game UNTIL he used a CC number. THEN the game showed up in his account. THEN he was able to use his GAME TIME CARD. I am suppose to believe you, someone who has not even read the posts, rather than what happened to me and Hot Head Billy. It does not matter if you have a valid BOX CODE you have to have a CC. I rest my case.

First, calm down. You act as though because it didn't work for you then it will never work for anyone else. That is not true. For the first year of both my first and second accounts I didn't have a credit card on file. I was using time cards. They worked just fine for me most of the time. I switched to a credit card because I would have occasional troubles with it taking a time card. I got tired of having to wait a few days to get the issues worked out.

I am fairly calm I used the caps mostly because Aggelakis used caps for the words.

Did you try to start the game using time cards?

I noticed that also, sometime the cards go through with no problem, other times you have call support to make them work.

I did start the game with just time cards. I never bothered to add a credit card till I switched.

Odd, I just upgraded my 2nd account with a GvE code and a 30-Day time card. Now, the 30-day cards include a trial as well, and it didn't want to take the code for it at first, so I backed out to my account page, went back in to my second account to update the payment for it, and it accepted the 30-day code without a hitch.

I think we can all agree that technology is less than perfect, and sometimes things that work for one individual will not work for another. Is it really necessary to bicker about it?

Oh wait, this is a forum, of course it's necessary to bicker about it! Carry on

Honestly, I no longer care about FiberOptic's plight, and honestly think that it is a PEBCAK issue for him (not necessarily the OP), because multiple people (INCLUDING MYSELF...including others in this thread...that is personal experience, not second-hand chatter) have created and upgraded accounts, either from nothing or from trials or from existing accounts, using time cards, without credit cards involved at all.
