Eclipse + Shields?

Hey there, I am trying to plan out my warshade's respec now that he's lvl 50 and I was wondering how important penumbra and twilight shield are if you have eclipse? In the build I can't even fit penumbra in until 35 and twilight until 41 and was just wondering if there's even a need for them due to eclipse. Although I'm not sure what I'd take instead. I guess maybe assault and tactics? idk

In my opinion, no. No need for them at all. Those power selections are best used elsewhere, as long as you have Eclipse slotted up correctly.

Assault and Tactics are a good choice if you're playing a human-former. Not really a good idea if you're playing a tri-former, as re-toggling them all the time will definitely take away from a continuous, rolling attack chain.

I would agree.

With a well slotted eclipse none of the shields are really needed, and on a human only build I can see Leadership being very usefull. But as he said if your switching forms leadership will just get in the way. I suggest taking things to mule LoTG 7.5% recharges. Combat jump and anything with defence are good picks after level 38.

If you PL'd to 50 just to get an "epic" thinking you'd be ber, you're going to be sorely disappointed with the HEATs, because the VEATs were designed so that anyone with one good finger and a braincell can rock the toggles.

Decisions should always be based on what people decide to do with their toons. Khelds can have several roles and so need to be able to change between 4 builds!

Rather than saying "Yes" or "No" outright I think it depends on two (or three) things.

1) Your Eclipse downtime. Even fully slotted out with SOs and with Hasten running you'll still have 30 seconds or so downtime on it. So the Shield can be handy for that downtime. They can also be handy for that small interval where you're getting close enough to trigger Eclipse in absorbing any alpha. If you've IOed enough to make the gap tiny or nonexistant then you don't need the shields really.

2) Do you flit between forms a lot? If so the Shields are a bit of a pain to put back up all the time. Plus for the 30 seconds you don't have Eclipse you can Dwarf up if things get hairy.

And I suppose it also depends on what you're taking instead too. I ended up dropping the Elemental shield (the Fire & Cold one) for a Human Form blast, but keeping the other two. The Smashing & Lethal because it's hard to avoid taking anyway and there's lots of Smashing in the game and the NRG / Neg NRG because NRG is pretty common ingame and Quants etc do all Neg Damage with their anti-Kheld powers nowadays so it's handy to protect against them when I'm soloing and attempting a TP & Smash attack on a Quant or Void.

I would agree with Carnifax's advice, if you are going to a top end recharge build and have perma-Eclipse then all shields become useless, but if you don't have that kind of build and plan on spending any time in human form the shields can save your life in the Eclispe downtime.

As for what to take instead of the shields, that really depends on how you play and how often you use the forms. Some people take pool powers that don't need slotting, some people take powers like Combat Jumping to slot an LoTG +7.5%. Just let us know how you play and we can give better advice on that front.

I agree about the shields, but I am curious as to what you consider "well slotted" for Eclipse. What IO sets are you using?

I tend to use the shields powers as a way to slot 2 Impervium Armor IOs to get the 2.5% recovery or put the status and psionic resists.

I've used Tactics and Manuevers to work in other IOs also. I tend to only use my human form to mire, eclipse and stygian circle.

total kick to the gut

Two Recharge IOs and 4 Impervium Armor IOs (you can see exactly which ones if you click the guide link in my sig and check out "build number 1" in the 'builds' section). It maxes out both the recharge of the power and the resistance of the power (reducing the number of enemies required to max out your resistance). Not only that, but you also get the 2.5% endurance recovery bonus as well as upping your max endurance.

See above for where I use that set.

My current build on Arcana has the S/L and elemental shields but my next build iteration is dropping Penumbral (the elemental) because I find I never use it. I don't even know what Twilight Shield looks like because I have never met a Warshade who has it.

I use the shields mainly as set mules. Grav Shield has my Imp. Skin and Aegis status protection. Absorption for the Steadfast unique and a Karma -kb. Shadow Cloak carries my LotG recharge and a second -kb. Cloak incidentally is the only WS power that accepts defense sets so CJ is a worthwhile pick if you want to mule more defense set IOs.

Well, my build is pure humanform and I plan to spend a decent amount of influence on him. Nothing crazy yet like purples or lotgs really unless some drop for me. I like to play my warshade like a scrapper usually lol

Then the shields are worth it...If you have an aggresive play style you really want to have the shields.

When my pc is fixed I will post my build for you. It not a cheap but no purples but some nice bells and whistles for you.

Tri-form you really don't need.
