Quick Guide for All Scrapper ITF
One option is to snipe / shoot the nictus from long range, and defeat them this way, albeit slowly, without Romulus reacting. |
If you're going to fight Romulus though, the regen isn't likely to be a big deal with blaster DPS, especially multiple blasters. The heals are more tricky unless most people have good defense. |

No clue on what the heal is considered - it'd make sense for it to be an AoE, but you never know. The range is rather large, no numbers but I'd put my money on 60-80 feet if not more. On the other hand the radius of targets it heals is much smaller, and you can easily get someone to attack the healing nictus, get it to move a few feet away from Rommie where it won't be able to heal him, and keep it there ; however, if you move it too far away from Rommie it'll fly back to him.
As for shooting nictus without Romulus reacting, I've seen it done from snipe range and with low tier blasts with boost range. Having just seen it and not done it myself I'm not able to tell you more.
I've also been on an ITF where someone managed to pull Romulus away from the nictus without the nictus moving at all. I've got no clue how it's done, though. He told us it was a 90% chance so it doesn't sound like a fluke.
It wouldn't surprise me if it was more, to force everyone into range of it. Even at 80 feet the only way you can stay out of range is to use Assault Rifle or Boost Range. So that's right out.
If it's an AoE it would be easier to get defenses up, since Blasters who build for defense tend to focus on ranged and AoE from what I've seen.

The first time I did the ITF we sniped the healing first then killed Rommie three times... So yeah its very possible, I believe the range you need to be away from it is 60'. Use single target attacks only, AoE will aggro everyone and their mother.
Rommie goes Ape after that, stay outta range and finish off the other two nictus out of rommies range and then take him out... Just theory, but shouldn't be too hard.

Sadly, my computer was not playing nicely on the one I recorded, all kinds of lag and major slowdown was occurring, so I kept needing to shut-off my recording. But here are the vids, such as they are.

Why Blasters? Empathy Sucks.
So, you want to be Mental?
What the hell? Let's buff defenders.
Tactics are for those who do not have a big enough hammer. Wisdom is knowing how big your hammer is.
The Nictus Essences will not react if they are hit with an 80 foot or better single target attack at it's absolute max range.
I was on one that killed them that way, my sonic blaster could use his first two attacks with impunity. A good way to ensure that you are at max range is to queue up the attack from out of range and slowly creep forward until it fires. After that as long as you don't move and your target doesn't move you should be fine.

I've been on an all Assault Rifle ITF, 7 blasters and one AR/dark corruptor. It was chaos and lots of fun. Not as many deaths as you would expect either. Nearly all of the deaths were the AR/EM blapper. Exploding crystals and EBs were not kind to him.
The Corr's dark debuffs no doubt helped. I don't remember seeing him use them much, but like I said, it was pretty chaotic. We usually had 2 or 3 spawns engaged at once.
For Rommy, we sniped the healing nictus, and then I believe we just gunned him down after that.
Regarding the scrapper or all melee ITF, I'd love to do that. I have an ma/wp scrapper and an ss/inv brute that both do well on ITFs.
I assume this would be on test? Otherwise all my ITF range toons are on Liberty.
Actually, Bill and I both play on Pinnacle, so that's most likely where it will be happening. They're generally kind of spur of the moment things, planned no more than a day or two in advance.
It will be a while before our next one, as we are both finishing character's builds, so if you can get a scrapper or brute to 35 in the next few weeks on Pinnacle you're more than welcome to come along.
I wouldn't ask you to transfer a character just to run a TF with us.

I was referring to their resistance that they have causing resistance debuffs to be resisted. I guess I'll just have to find out what resistances Rommy has, if any. Paragonwiki just says "Resistance" without giving specific amounts.

BOO!!!
so just soloed this the other day on my claws/sr with a heavy use of large inspirations. Took me like 5 tries of mixing and matching inspiration till I settled on 3 large reds and large 2 oranges at a time, that combined with my regen and aidself was enough to take him down rather quickly. That first fight is the toughy, and I might have been lucky that he took the auto hit nictus out first and without that the fight was just any other AV fights...
well anyways thought I'd share it....
Nice.
Also, I'm reasonably sure that -res isn't affected by the purple patch either because the specific design intent was to have -res add a constant amount of increased damage and the purple patch already reduces damage; anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, though I'd like to see some kind of evidence to see for myself.
