No one in my SG is into PvP (myself included), but we wouldn't mind having the base item. If you took a bunch of your SG mates in SG mode, meandered out to a seculded corner of Warburg and started beating on each other, would it be that difficult to farm this badge?

Yeah, the only way I've kept a crafted item is when transferring to Test. I've never transferred across live servers, but I'd imagine it works the same, since you don't go through a quit dialog.
