1: No idea.
2: My memory is hazy but it looks like you haven't found the Midnight Squad and Cimerora arcs. Villain Epic Archetypes also have new arcs as well.
3: It's been farm city for a while but it's starting to wind down, and there is plenty of decent story content to be found.
4: Yes they're temporary, no the max is beyond 2 hours. It depends on how long you've been logged out. And there are exceptions, such as the WW Teleporter, that you can keep for ages, and the Day Job Accolades give renewable charges for various powers.
P_B pretty much covered it in a nutshell.
On day jobs, I believe some of those temp powers are rechargeable, so it's not like once you use them, they're gone forever. P-wiki has an overview article as well as a nifty day job chart.

Yup the WW teleporter is actually MUCH more handy than first thought. Great to go from a mission straight to the auction house to make a quick sell. Good thing the timer on it isnt time but uses, so you charge up how many times you can use it. 10 is the max i think, but then you can use those 10 times whenever you want.

1. Union apparently has more peeps, but I'm still only on Defiant so if you go there, your loss. (please note, the lack of computer at the moment prevents me from playing which is sad...)
2. There's 2 new Arcs in Cimerora (one for villains, one for heroes) and a few arcs for Midnighters.
3. I'd say the current ratio of farming to missions is 99% to 1% but I may be wrong... or deluded... or can't do math. However, I'm not drunk as I don't touch the stuff.
4. Indeedly they do! Thankfully, most changed to charges rather than time recently. I especially like the WW TPer.
PS - Are you still 22 and deathly afraid of facial hair?

Also - any suggestions what I should do/where I should go first? I wandered around last night completely aimlessly with nothing happening

You can explore the AE as well. There are excellent arcs out there. Great for when you can't find a non farming team and when you have done all the regular content already.
