Justified? What do you guys think?
Wow...this thread blew up, huh?
First off, the only reason that I use AE is because it's a quick way to make a little inf and I like using the tickets for salvage as my market-fu is not all that great yet...but I'm learning and I have most of you guys in this very thread to thank for it.
So, I joined another team last night...I'll admit that I was a bit hesitant to lead after the previous nights disaster. We had 2 tanks, a fire/kin, 2 blasters and I forget what the others were. The team gets off to a rocky start and some deaths are involved...not mine though, I didnt die once (THANK YOU FOR YOUR INPUT, SANTORICAN
THE BUILD IS WORKING OUT GREAT)...YAY! Not one person complained...the team stepped up as a whole and formulated a strategy that eventually worked out and led to a pretty good team. MOST importantly, we had a good time which is what the point of the game is anyways. I was relieved to see people working together as a team and actually having fun without taking themselves too seriously.
At one point the fire/kins imps accidentally aggroed an extra mob...we handled it just fine and the fire/kind apologized. No need to get upset. That's what I can't understand about some of these posts that I've just read...kick someone because of one or two mistakes? Really? Has patience gone the way of the (insert favorite extinct or near extinct animal here)?
As we were getting ready to enter the mish, I noticed that exact same tank from the night before broadcasting that he would pay 10 million inf to anyone who would get him a lvl ...BUT he door sits...his fire/imp buddy was in on it too...now, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all but I thought it was kind of amusing since they were effectively leeching when they stopped playing the night before...I wish they had offered to pay me! Might have been a different thread! (joke)
)
I can't subscribe to this school of thought that says "you HAVE to have this or that to be successful"...no...you really don't. Some things are EXTREMELY helpful such as a good tank or fire/kin but I think that most of us can agree that we've seen plenty of teams get by w/out either. I don't mean to solo those two AT's out or anything...they just happen to be part of the subject matter.
Anyways, cheers to all of you. I actually feel much better about my decision and better equipped to handle such problems should they rise again.
...either that or I'll stab 'em in da face w/ my dual blades of death!!!!! MUAHAHAHAHA...cough...
Yep. Boom. I had decided not to comment any further, because there's usually only so far I want to jump into a straight up argument. But now that Negescape has flounced the thread, I suppose I can say what I was thinking.
It all finally hit home when he described EXACTLY who all he was tanking for. He's tanking for a pick up group of lowbies with no enhancements, who are all side kicked by the mission level up to 50. He's power leveling the completely helpless. No WONDER he thinks a tank is necessary. No WONDER he has an attitude. No WONDER he thinks everyone around him is useless and he's the golden child. He specifically set up an extremely artificial situation that made it so. The problem comes when he takes this experience and applies it to the game at large, and seemingly fails to believe anyone that says that tanks aren't a requirement for regular missioning. I mean, he flounced right after someone posted an actual story about running an AE L54 boss farm without a tank. What, did it not count because he wasn't powerleveling unenhanced lowbies?
Anyway, given all that, it hardly seems like he was even arguing his own point. It seems like he was arguing the OPPOSITE point by describing the absolute most extreme situation, and saying that in that specific situation, he was necessary. It was just weird.

I guess he felt entitled so some imaginary degree because he's supposedly been here since i3 (hur hur hur, i b here 4 many year, so i kno evryting!)
What gets me is how quickly some people turn to insults and name calling. Is it really so hard to conceive that people other than you might play differently than you? They might be a very different age than you? They may not have vast amounts of time to dedicate towards the game? That someone else may have another way? Does that make it better?
No.
It makes it different. Sure, one way might technically be better than another but who are you to tell me that I'm an idiot (or anyone else for that matter) for not subscribing to your thought process?
I read the entire thread again and I only saw such blatant insults and name calling from one person...and that person sure sounded a lot like the person that inspired this thread to begin with.
All I'm asking is to have a little consideration for others. If you do not have the patience to deal with others that are not doing things your way, that's fine. Really it is. Just don't treat others as inferior and insult them for it. Go do something else and try to enjoy your time playing instead of bringing others down.
It's just like the whole "noob haters" thing. I can't stand it when people are rude to others because...GASP...they're new and have never played before! Weren't we all new at some point? Anyways, sorry to get slightly off topic there...the argument is just similar...
Wow this thread is full of lulz. I've seen some ignoramous in my time but man that one almost took the cake.

My experience with AE is pretty limited to to playing my Fire/MM blaster. 90% of the teams I got invited to was a lvl 52 boss farm (WAPL) The majority of runs I did, ended up in the tankers quitting because they died too much. It seems the dev's gave them something called punchvoke as well as giving most of thier primaries a taunt aura. They were all too pre-madonna-ish to turn off thier taunt auras and not use thier attacks. So no matter how much damage my blaster did, I couldn't keep the squishy tanks alive. After the tanks left things always went much smoother with my blaster holding agro nicely. By far the best team I ever had was when everyone quit except my blaster and a stone/kin controller. He kept them immobalized and me fulcrum shifted. We cleaned out the mission and ran it a 2nd time.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
I guess the moral of the story is don't beg your teammates to cooperate. If they choose to not help in the team effort then they need to be kicked. /thread

Well within your rights to remove somoen from a team you're leading. Although, you really don;t have the right to get angry with someone about not following your rules if you haven't told them to them yet.
... Hit it ...
I have nothing to add but this.
As far as a thankless job, try being a scrapper. When's the last time you heard, Nice scrapping!

Nobody was angry at first except for the tank in question and then his fire/kin buddy.
They were asked repeatedly to contribute to the team and not leech and complain. They had every opportunity to quit the team if they didn't like the way things were going. I think that justifies some mild irritation on behalf of the rest of the team that were trying to get through the mish as a team, and that is what lead to the eventual kicking.
I was never all that angry while it was happening...I think it was disbelief more than anything. I'll admit I was somewhat angry when they started sending me tells that said "you fail as a leader because you can't get the team to listen to you"...remember that this is AFTER I've repeatedly asked him in both team chat (and so did the other team members) and tells to please contribute to the team. So, he was doing exactly what it was that he was accusing others of: not listening to the team leader. Im not one of those people that thinks that the team leader is God and you should LISTEN TO ME!! But, it sure sounded like thats the way he felt about it if so, then why was he going against his very own belief? Most of the time, the team leader is just the person who put the team together from what Ive seen in AE anyways. I prefer being on a team with a good strategy but it just doesnt always happen that way and as long as the team is functioning and were all having fun, Im pretty content.
The rules that were set down in the beginning were simple...follow the tank. As I've already said many times before, it was a really great team and they didn't really need any direction...they knew what to do and they just...did it. There were 2 unfortunate slip ups and that's all. I think that's hardly a reason to act the way the tank and other fire/kin did. I think Werner said it best when he said they were probably a duo who are used to playing their way that has worked for them and how dare anyone else play differently than they!
I've led a few teams since then and I haven't seen anyone act even remotely close to the way "the tank" did. In my AE experience...and this is just my experience...most of the high level people are there for the same reason I am...tickets and some quick influence. Nothing wrong with that. I see AE as a tool and nothing more at this point. I still play the regular game as well. Sure there are plenty of newer players that have ascended to 50 much too quickly and don't really know what they're doing but hey, they pay to play the way they want just as I do so who am I to criticize someone elses enjoyment of the game?
Wow...
First to the OP, you're fine, heck you even play damage control so you buddy up with the tank later, ya did good, don't quit being a leader because of one bad experience.
I read the whole thread and have just gotta ask... Was Negescape joking/trolling or is he/she so delusional that they actually buy into that line of garbage they were trying to spread.
I don't play AE, I think its a good idea that has gotten way out of hand, I don't think it should be possible to level to 50 in what? Last I heard it was 8 hours. For me and I'm sure a few others here its used only for getting to those hard/impossible to reach AVs.
Can we get this thread tangged "No T(h)anks"?
