NPCs and EM stuns.

Hey folks,

I dusted off my lvl 28 EM/ELA brute (to my regret, forgot how monumentally painful he is). I just about pulled my hair out from NPCs regularly doing the following when stunned from my EM attacks:

1. "Miraculously lept off into distance whereby I chased killing precious BU 10 sec. timer."
2. "Wandering away very quickly".
3. "Stunned but scurried out of range".

The frequency of NPCs doing this just made me want to do "Hulk Smash!!". To rub salt in the wound, it was enraging to be pwned mercilessly by Orange, Blue Ink Tsoo and Red, Lt. Ancestral Spirits. All the while, my dependecy on stuns and Aid-Self were ineffective.

Just wondering how NPCs can be so "fortunate"; Yet, when players are stunned we can't push direction keys fast enough to move us away from instant dirt naps?

Bravo if WAI.

I think that the NPC's are given a bit of a break in terms of how they react to stuns to compensate for the fact they all are high school drop outs and dumb as dirt. AI just can't match real human intelligence, so the devs compensate by buffing them a bit, to give people some measure of challenge when dealing with them.

If you can make it to 41 you can get an Immob...

This isn't challenging at all though, it's just annoying.

It's challenging in the sense that getting a teammate with area slow or immob will make it more efficient. It's not skill challenging, it's tactics challenging.

Not even that. Just annoying. Thus the deletion of a multi-year old level 50.

Be well, people of CoH.

Why not just take one of the aoe immobs? How does that Not solve the problem?

Because it's EM me thinks. I mean, there's no real reason to go EM anymore.

I don't get that. ET is still incredibly good DPS. Barrage is now good enough to replace brawl as your filler. I really don't see why people hate the set so much, unless they just can't let go of where it used to be.

Back Alley Brawler's Total Focus still has a mag-4 stun. (-:

If you crank the recharge into the stratosphere, EM can push out very nice ST damage. But it's not the best. While being not the best at ST damage, it has crap AoE damage output and crap mitigation.

On top of that, it has 3 animations with >2.5sec animations.

I don't miss the overpoweredness of ET. I don't miss the mag4 on TF. I miss the set being fun. Due to the loss of fun, it should be given SOME kind of bone. Either crank up the size/damage of WH, or do something with the mitigation.

So you're saying EM will get a buff if I stop smiling when I play my EM brute?

Dang, man, I'm sorry. I had no idea I was holding up the works like that. I'll get right on it.

Less sarcastically, I agree that EM has fallen behind a bit on a mechanical level: the ST damage, never a privileged specialty to begin with, is indeed no longer impressive, and the AoE is as poor as it has ever been. I'd argue that the stacking stun effect is undervalued, but it does take certain conscious decisions to leverage to its fullest (pairing it with /DA, for instance, helps a lot).

What does get to me is the assertion that the aesthetics of the set are so unlovable that it needs mechanical compensation. I took EM for big heavy hits, and that's what I got. Hell, I'd buy into a change that pushes Whirling Hands up to the Foot Stomp/Frozen Aura/Fire Sword Circle level of dam/end/rech, making it stronger - and slower. I'm not sure how that would go down with users of Ice Melee though, given how hard they had to fight to make Frozen Aura do respectable damage - or indeed any damage at all.
