Steelclaw, psychoti, Dark_Respite, PK, Arcanaville, etc. you're all popular. People think you should be the ones at the top.

Actually, I "threw a fit" while I was still sitting at #1, nice try.
And the idea that I would be popular is LAUGHABLE. I'm more insulting to people than most forumites.
Reputation is only a popularity contest if you make it one, which you have.
The best part is the "Only rep other big-rep holders" policy. So now it's an elitist group.

So, if you want more evidence that the rep system is silly I have some. Every 1000 posts gives you one rep power. You gain 1 rep power for every hundred rep.

I've never asked for rep or exptected it. It's nice to get positive feedback from someone based on something I've said, not because of who I am. By begging for rep, you either invalidate that completely or it becomes diluted so that you can't tell what's actual appreciation and what's "you green dot me, I'll green dot you."
If you think it's all only about "being popular," then I feel sad for you. Being "popular" isn't the same as having something useful to contribute or being a valuable member of a community. While some people may be both, they're just not the same thing.

I rep any post I like... usually because they're either really insightful or just plain hysterical. *shrug* No, I don't have very much in the way of high expectations. :-P
