Hey guys, I'm a Gul, from Perth. I'm fresh out of WoW, and needed a new MMO addiction to stave off the boredom of a meaningless existence

I'm actually still downloading the game, lol. Only just found the DMG with all the files after trying to get the game downloaded through the updater. Eheheh

I'll probably be making a Huge dual blades scrapper, just because. (Well okay, so I saw a Huge dual blades character in a video and knew it was the path for me.)

Seems like all the Oceanic peeps hang out on Justice. Is the global chat channel cross-faction?

EDIT

Actually, is there an AT that lets me be a jack-of-all-trades kind of hybrid? Something I enjoyed in low-level WoW was that hybrids in group play could jump in and do whatever was needed if the character fulfilling one of the specific roles carked it or was somehow disabled.

Global chat is cross faction, recommended channels are Australia and Antipodes (split off from Australia, I won't go into the politics). Yes most Oceanics appear to play on Justice.

Welcome Gulanzon!!!
Justice is the place to be for all things awesome.

The majority of Aussie players are Villains but Heroes do exist (especially on Mondays).

See my earlier post (08-16-2010 08:22) which lists some of the regular events on Justice.
The Wednesday SINISTER event is now arranged by Plantatia and myself as Lili has left the game.

Look forward to seeing you ingame on your FREAKING HUGE DB Scrapper lol.

As for your question about playing a Bard-Type character the best I can probably advise on would be a Blaster (Hero), Corrupter (Villain) or Defender (Hero). Blast/Corr are ranged attackers but with either Buff or Debuff powers and Defenders are Buff/Debuffers with Ranged attacks.

Whats the difference?

Blast/Corr get their ranged attacks as their Primary Powers (gets them earlier and they ar emore powerful) and the Buff/Debuff are Secondary.
Defenders are Buff/Debuff Primary and Ranged Damage Secondary.

These allow you to do damage from afar along with either helping (buff) your allies (heal, increase defence or damage resistance, rez, etc) or hinder (debuff) your enemies (slow, decrease their to-hit/damage/defence/etc).

This is an overly simplistic view point and im sure others will also have more suggestions like maybe a MasterMind (Villain).

Or.... try them all and have fun

Haha, never say that to an altoholic. I spent my first 2 years of WoW never hitting the level cap, rerolling and rerolling... same with Anarchy Online (because I just had to try every class!!!! (highest I got was with my Fixer, followed by my Engineer... don't judge me as a person, lol))

EDIT

Is Storm Summoning for Controllers still considered group-unfriendly?

Short question = long answer

CoX powers that use KB (Knockback) is considered by many to be "team-unfriendly" as those KB powers "push" the enemies around.
This affects melee toons as they then need to go chasing those enemies around the map in order to smack/slice/burn/etc them into submission (or death).

However IF the KB player can use the terrain and knockback the enemies into corners/walls/etc that the melee toons are nearby its not a big deal.

Alternatively if you can hover/fly and be above the enemy when you use your KB power you knock them back into the ground. However if you hit them from an angle then they may go bouncing across the map (ok slight over exaggeration but you get the point )

Note that some KB powers actually do KD/KU (KnockDown/KnockUp) but are still classified as KnockBack. They mean (as the names suggest) that your power knocks the enemies off their feet or up into the air. (Note-Note: enemies that have a weakness to KD/KU or are lower level than you may be KB even if its a KD/KU power).

KB can be VERY fun and in some situations save your life but "in general" KB is still frowned upon in teams as the player can cause headaches.

BUT (always a but) many teams dont care to the point of not inviting you based on your powers - as long as you dont continue to be the cause of team wipes by always knocking enemy A into a bunch of new enemies and causing them to attack and overwhelm the team

Thanks Long answers are the best. I'll make sure to keep asking short questions as needed :P

I'll keep that in mind. My head is still turning over all the fun things I could do. Like making a character inspired by a certain blue superhero beginning with "Dr." and ending with "McCoy".

Anyway, the community attitude here seems really refreshing coming out of WoW and dabbling in the forums. Can't wait to get in-game.

You'll find most of the Aussies play on Justice, but a few are elsewhere.

And welcome to the game. (token pom here but I play UK mornings a fair bit so aussie prime time)

Hi

Some of you already know me, but for those of you who don't I'm @Ariellah. Affectionately called by the regulars "Ari"

Got my start on other servers but moved to Justice when I heard there was a greater Australian/New Zealander presence online in our time zone.

@Metacore is my best friend, and those of you who remember the early days when we joined will remember us as being two peas (sometimes still are LOL) -though, I am trying to generate a more independent appearance these days

I sadly only have one level 50 toon (Villain) - Plant/Thorn Dominator, a high level Hero - Martial Arts/Electric Armor, and a myriad of Alts!

I am also the new leader of the Going Rogue sunday events and have 2 toons in progress there.

I currently hail from the central coast in NSW ('Straya), and confess to be a tiny bit of a computer geek... oh... and FYI I'm a girl (whether it was obvious or not, I kind of think revealling my sex is relevant - its embarassing running a male toon and being referred to as 'he' in team chat )

Happy gaming!

Thats not really true that most aussies play on justice, but the australia channel is so justice focused but the ones who play on other servers give up on it. the Australia channel is less a global one than a justice chat channel imo, and they tend to be pretty derogative about people on other servers (freedumb is always the server of aebabies and spammers, virtue is said to be hawt ERP in the tutorial zone and beyound, and the others are all lolpopulation, you can find teams there?).

There is not real stats so anyone saying that there is more aussies on justice, really people saying that tend to be getting thier info from who is on the australia channel. I've meet many many aussies on virtue, but i dont really care where people are from, just like lots around for teamage.

The amount of people playing is nearly always higher on freedon/virtue than justice even during peak aussie times. Much more pick up group/task activity.

The channel regulars on the Australia/Antipodes will have near constant teaming and task/strike forces on during aussie peak times, and are really friendly for most part (except about other servers ).

Much of this is true, but actually having played on all the servers (I have 180+ toons on one account and at least 12 toons on each server), the comments about Freedom and Virtue are caricatures, but have more than a grain of truth about them. Whether Freedumb has a higher percentage of idiots is open to question, but it has a higher number of them due to the population, and that type of person tends to be very vocal so you see more stupidity in broadcast.

Justice has the advantage IMO that it has regularly organised events in Aussie peak. This being my mornings, so the Europeans I team with in the evenings aren't on, I tried a lot of servers including Freedom, Virtue, Protector and my current main Victory, and found Justice to be the best for TFs and other events at that time.

Howdy - just reactivated my account and upgraded to GR. Haven't played since 2006 - coming back now to take a break from WoW.

I used to live in the US, then moved to Hong Kong for work, so I play on Perth/+8 time now.

Still getting reacquainted to the game, so many things have changed since I last played. Need to figure out what playstyle I like - there are just too many power pools to choose from.

All of my toons are on Liberty but none of them are above level 15, so I'll just roll some new ones on Justice and see if I can catch you guys. Would be nice to be in a SG/Guild just to hang out, and occasionally ask for help on those difficult bosses in the starting zone.

Just a quick question - I assume SG/VGs are not available to Praetorians until they decide to become either a hero or a villain?

It certainly used to be the case that SG/VGs weren't available till you left prae, presume it still is, although with the gates to PD now I'm not sure.

There are SG/VGs called Sentinel and Sinister, which will give you teleporter access. Ask in the Australia channel if anybody's on that can give you an invite once you escape Praetoria.

Pretty sure SG/VGs for goldside yet.
They do grant a big hefty prestiage bonus to the first SG/VG they join.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):
