Does your play-style match up with who you are in RL?

If I were to describe me, I'd be exactly like how I play my ss/inv tank: overgrown Boy Scout leading the charge, first in, last out, guarding the flock. Since I'm not invulnerable and could scratch a finger on a sharp door grip, I tend to modify the real life with more caution. But in a team situation, I'm the guy who is the guardian leader: I drive a team forward, support and encourage others, and take the heat of angry management to protect the team. I also tend to hesistate if I don't see that team respond immediately to my leadership decisions, and sometimes weaken my leadership by constantly reevaluating whether I'm leading correctly. Its the same way with the tank. I'll only charge in when I'm certain all are ready and healed, so sometimes the impatient scrappers ignore the others and run past me.

Now if you were to ask my mom , she'd call me a mastermind (and she has). I was the kid that the adults always perceived as innocent when a group of kids got in trouble for pranks and such. Over time Mom realized I was the planner: setting things up, psyching up the other kids, then sending them out to do my bidding so my hands stayed clean. Fortunately, that was my youth. I've since crossed over to the blue side.

RobertoLyon wants play-style:

For me I've found that I play buff- and heal-heavy Defenders and Controllers because they fit well with the "heroic" aspect that drew me to this game in the first place.

Sometimes I need to bring out one of my Blasters after a rough day at work, rough commute, fight with the gf, etc.

But I find that the "care-bear" aspect of buffing and healing matches up pretty well with who I am in RL - I'll always stop to help a confused-looking tourist...just TODAY I found a Blackberry on the subway and made sure it got back to its rightful owner (not the first time I've done this)... I'll give give my seat on the subway to seniors, pregnant ladies, disabled, etc...

Wondering if the same holds true across the board.
My play style is far more affected by who the character is than who I am. This becomes particularly noticible when I'm playing my Krazy Killer Klown with Klaws, Cut-Up or my Impulse knock-off called Headlong.

If you've got alt-itis - would you by any chance be a hoarder in real life?
I do, and I am not. My alt-itis comes from being a comic book super-hero geek for over 45 years. So many concepts, so little slots.

Dec out.

well, in real life there are a lot less oppertinuties to kick people in the head and be looked upon kindly for it. but I do tend to approach adversity in a scrapperish mindset. Find the problem, attack the problem till i find its source, and utterly eliminate the issue. I also tend to be a fairly good note taker and like being in a mentoring role for new hires/kids/inexperienced people, and ingame i tend to find myself clamping on to new players and getting them acclimated. Why waste everyone's time with issues if you can train the out of the inexperienced? get em to the fun faster. I also tend to be someone who likes to hop in when people need help, and ingame i will often answer a pug cry just because that is a call for help, and i just go in. subtlety is not, as you may gather, my main strong point. finally i tend to wear tie dye a lot and bright colors, that is well reflected ingame.

I came in here eager to talk about this, only to discover that I already talked about it last year, in the same thread...

Hmmm.

I guess my main reflects me more than I thought he did.

My main is a Claws/Regen scrapper. I'm a little ADHD and often jump into things before fully assessing the situation, at which point I scramble to do some damage control.

My other main is a Sonic/Devices blaster. I'm a heavy metal guitarist, so I'm fond of loud noise and the gadgets used to make it. Playstyle wise with that character I tend toward slow, methodical handling of situations, taking out one target at a time. I do that in real life when I manage to focus my energy on one thing for any length of time.

Pretty much all of my characters reflect an aspect of my personality. No matter how off the wall it may be there is something in each character that mirrors something about me. I'm not going to go into all 24 characters I regularly play.

In RL--if my life could be summed up so briefly--aging, lazy, spacy, worrywort who is terrible at multitasking and not very competitive.

In the game--I tend to play lots of tanks, brutes, stalks and scraps that just wanna hit stuff, do what they are told and not try to think about things too deeply. The perfect goon really. I join lots of pick up groups and pull my weight but dislike having star and managing a team.

I guess there's some similarities in there somewhere.

But I've got alt-itis bad and I think this reflects my general jack-of-all-trades-ness in hardspace.

Not at all, in real life I'm stoic and reserved, in game I play like a hyper maniac with ADD.

That's an interesting notion. I am helpful in real life, so I tend to bring Defenders along on teams of friends, but I'm also an INTJ (Myers-Briggs personality type) which means if I'm given the choice between a group activity and staying home alone, I will always, without question, chose staying at home. So it shouldn't be any surprise that I tend to like characters who can solo. My four 50s are 3 Blasters and a Brute.

I have severe altitis, but I am the exact opposite of a hoarder. When I moved, I got rid of more than 90% of my stuff, which was not a large amount to begin with. For example, I've never had more than one pair of sneakers and currently I own more pairs of jeans at the same time than I ever have in my entire life: two. And that's just because they were on sale.

For me, altitis is about expressing creativity. In that regard it is not a *reflection* of who I am but actually who I am. I've never suffered from writer's block and don't understand how anyone could have such a problem. I have the opposite issue: too many ideas.

If you spend a lot of time building/tweaking your SG base - are you a "nester" or perhaps an actual architect in RL?
I almost became an architect, and I find myself stifled by the base editor. As someone who can't walk into a house without redesigning it, it frustrates me that the base editor is so non-intuitive and so damnably limiting. As a result, I have never, ever built a base for any of my solo SGs, nor done anything beyond placing a couple tchotchkes in the early days of bases being added to the game. I would not have designed such a clumsy system even on my worst day, so for me it's like pulling teeth and to be avoided at all costs.

I feel somewhat the same way about the AE. If I could have the freedom to design missions in an intuitive interface similar to the character creator, I'd be making missions all day long regardless of whether anyone played them. I just find the tools too frustrating to use. Which also annoys the inherent "systems designer" aspect of my personality.

Not too far from the truth, though my inner pack-rat is probably more represented by the way I use IO recipes that might not be the best simply because they dropped for me.

I actually *am* an architect, and I can tell you I'd rather not mess with the SG bases. If I could load in an AutoCAD or Revit model and *really* design my own, then it might be interesting. [/QUOTE]

Larf, looks like I'm not alone.

Oooh! I love this question and am glad it was dug up! My previous answer most certainly is correct for me, too.

Hellz yeah! Forgot I asked this, back in the day - what a great pile of responses!

I found it interesting how many specific traits I share with other posters who've described themselves.

Such an intelligent, interesting player base we have!

(wait that makes it sound like I consider myself intelligent and interesting - nothing further from the truth, unfortunately!)

I tend to favor melee characters.

I spent my first summer after high school throwing drunks out of a biker bar.

Draw whatever conclusions you like from that.

I used to fiddle with my back feet music for a black onyx. My entire room absorbed every echo. The music was . . . thud like. The music was . . . thud like. I usually played such things as rough-neck and thug. Opaque melodies that would bug most people. Music from the other side of the fence.
