Wtb rp
If you start RPing on teams sometimes the other people will also RP along with you. It's the unofficial RP server, after all. A variety of people will Roleplay. Sometimes I just play in teams OOCly, but that's fine.

*shrugs* I'm a PvPer, not really a roleplayer. I thought it was cute.

The cursing and threats are in the PvP zones. |
It's actually kinda boring usually. The RP that goes on there is rather, well... dull. It seems like everyone just RPs small talk and flirting and, well, NOTHING. It doesn't go anywhere. Nothing cool DEVELOPS out of it. At least on a team, we have the mission to discuss, so there is some action involved rather than pointless meandering.
When I first started RPing in Pocket D, I figured It'd be villains and heroes swearing oaths, making pithy statements and becoming arch-enemies or something like that. Villains in a dark corner plotting together. Heroes trying to learn their dastardly plans to stop them. Cursing at one another, making threats, heroes trying to convince villains to give themselves up or go straight... you know, genre-appropriate stuff. As it turns out NOBODY does that. Instead I find: Which frankly sounds about as interesting as watching paint dry. No one RPs superhero/villain comic books in Pocket D. They RP Beverly Hills 90210 with superpowers. |
It's either D, or Cimerora or RWZ, and the latter two, while a nice change of pace and "quiet" if you're looking for that sort of thing, you're also limiting yourself in the players who can attend or spectate.
For example, a few weeks ago, the Supreme Society intercepted the Justice Guard for a planned encounter in D. Threats were made for a while, and we ended up shifting to the Arena for a little brief RPvP. After the fight, there was some wrap-up RP before everyone had to log for the night. We're now in the process of splitting up to attend to more personal rivalries between the two groups.
Tales of Judgment. Also here, instead of that other place.
good luck D.B.B.
I would like to issue a plea on behalf of Paragon's diminutive protectors, please watch where you step. We're four feet tall in a six foot tall world, we've been cast adrift in a sea of butts. -Pillbug
Find an RPVG that fits your characters and go from there. Pocket D is a great place to go in order to find people your character fits in with however, so use that to your advantage. The population in there tends to lean towards Redside anyhow. Send /T,s to people you see RPing in the D about their VGs and find one that fits.
Once you have a RP Group, dont ever go back tot eh D unless you really have to.

Sometimes I wish the D was PvP enabled.
I've been playing on the AoC RP-PvP server, and there's an added element of danger and tension in any RP event. Most of the time, people remain civil enough, and most do get along, but if tempers flare or a troublemaker shows up, things can escalate very quickly.
CoH doesn't have that as much. Oh, sure, there's the odd emote slapfight, but those are a chore to watch, let alone partake in. It's like watching two kids play cops and robbers: 'I shot you!' 'Nuh-uh, you didn't!'

So it was a fantasy version of a wild west bar, one bottle thrown and the whole bar goes to fighting and shooting, just with more axes and squeaker pre-teens...now if you were to remove that last bit, that would be fun.
There's not a lot of angry aspergers rampaging around over there.
The non-RPers don't really bother us. Too busy stalking the main roads in exp areas for fresh meat, or making teams for the instance battles.
Besides, most frown on griefing events, though a few do try and are quickly beat down and run out of the area for their troubles. Usually you only see them once, then they are gone.
It would feel nice to KOB that Boombox spammer.

Interesting,, see last i checked up on the aoc community is was somewhere between "THIS GAME WILL SINK WOW YOU BLIZZARD FASCISTS" and "this game is unbalanced as hell and full of kids playing rangers"
and it would also be nice to drive out boombox spammers, AND erp toons AND possibly once and a while when feeling bitter captain lean-on-a-pillar-and-brood-in-a-trenchcoat.
The only thing that will topple WoW is WoW.

no damsel to a traintrack set? amateurs.
Our damsel shacked up with her captor, remember?
Your wardrobe change alone has made you emanate the smell of chewy chocolate cookies.
Let us RP?
I highly recommend Supreme Society, for villain-RP. They will treat you right.
I take a small exception to this:
I'm afraid to say there is no real other public place to hang out and RP at except the D.
As others have stated, I find you can stumble into RP just about anywhere. Heck, I can't remember the last time I ran a basic level 1-8 sewer run without some RP coming up. I can often initiate it, by simply having my character talk out loud, in character. It's pretty much everywhere. You just simply have to be the person to initiate it. It doesn't always work, but RP at the D doesn't always work either, so I'd pretty much call it even.
For some of us, the D is not "RP central" on Virtue. For some it is, and this is a good thing; but for some of us it isn't. I think, too often, we believe the way we roleplay, (both the how and where) is the "definitive" way. Really, to be fair, roleplay is probably deeper, broader and in many more forms and styles than one person can experience. We all take slices of it, to our personal preference, but there is no "right way" and there is no "one place".
I have found I can RP without supergroups, without the D, and without a lot of organization and an incredibly small list of friends. My style may be lighter and more casual, than many would like by doing it this way, but for someone who has a busy/sporadic schedule; and who must take long breaks from the game to focus on career/finance/businesses - it works wonders for me.
